Okay, H is allergic to about a hundred things, not kidding. It's mostly the outside and my dog. He is on a morning pill, night pill, nose inhaler. regular inhaler and an epi pen if needed. The culprit right now is the cotton wood tree behind my house. It's not our tree but the Village's. My entire yard and house is covered in the cotton seeds. It literally looks like it snowed.
Dude cannot sleep because he can't breathe. What else can he do or take? We can't open the windows because he'll die, but he seems to think the ac being would make it worse. I feel it might help him? WDYT?
Can he take Zyrtec?

I don't know what he can take but I think the air would help, especially if you put an allergen filter in

What's the pill he's taking morning and night? Is he already on an antihistamine? I'd skip the Zyrtec and go to Allegra. Or chlorpheniramine is another strong one but more like benedryl in that it would probably make him drowsy, which would be good for bedtime. Can he not sleep because he's too stuffy? He may need to add a decongestant in the morning.

They're trying to get him solely on the shots but he keeps missing appointments due to work. Okay the pills he's on is montelukast and levocetirizine. |

What about trying some essential oils? Whether it be diffusing them around the house or using a rollerball?
Peppermint, eucalyptus and basil are supposed to help.

I don't think it's an immediate thing though, more like gradual immunity. Yes he just needs to go up to the pharmacy and ask. There is 4-6 hour, 12 hour, and 24. I'd start with the 4-6 and see how it helps. He'll need to show his ID/drivers license. |

My AC has an allergin hepa filter in it, so in our case the AC would definitely help because it's filtering the air coming into the house.

I don't know his particular prescriptions but I have about a hundred allergies, too, and the basic pink benedryl is what works best for me. Knocks me right on my ass, though, so I only take it when absolutely necessary. He may want a different med if what he's taking isn't working. Is he at least consistent about taking what he's on, even though the shots are hit or miss? Because anti-histamines work best when they're built up in your system around the clock.
Bedtime shower, change linens often, eucalyptus does work to declog a stuffy nose, but that's more treating the symptom than the cause. Doesn't hurt, though.
Best thing to really break up that head shit is a combo head massage/scratch. You can google where your sinuses are in your head (forehead, sides of nose, by ears, etc) to know where best to rub.

Shower at night, keep laundry hamper out of the bedroom, change sheets often, vacuum often, allergy filter on AC, and nasal rinses are all things my allergist recommended. I am very allergic to birches and there are a ton in the forest behind my house, so I feel his pain! I hope he can get some relief soon.

MH is also congested from the cottonwoods. He's not as severe as yh, but he turned on the ac yesterday so the windows could be closed. He seems to think it's helping and has not taken any allergy meds.

Poor guy. This sounds miserable. I hope the allergist has some remedies for him.
My only other suggestion is a sinus rinse. He can use it morning and night to flush out anything that's made its way into his sinuses.

You have good recommendations. I'd add changing his clothes when he comes home, cleaning the floors often, and I'd try to find some locally sourced pee pollen if possible.
I'm allergic to every tree/grass/plant I was tested for, and my husbands an arborist, so the struggle is real. I hope YH finds relief.

shan-ah-doo, I know my MIL is able to have her shots administered at home. Is that an option for him? He's never mentioned that to me but he's also not good at taking in information from doctors so it's possible. |

+1 to all of the advice here. Also, it sounds weird, but when it's really bad out allergist has us put a little aquaphor around S1's nostrils. The thinking is that the spores will stick in the aquaphor and not go into the nasal passages.
Change his pillowcase daily. And probably bathe the dog as much as possible

Neti pot with distilled water before bed, shower at night, if you have rugs rip them up if at all possible, daily vacuuming, allergen filter and ac on. Hepa filter in the bedroom. Local raw honey twice a day.
