The restaurant world is so ingrained with sexism, I’m not surprised. Still furious though.

Heard a good point on NPR that all AL polling should be considered unreliable because many folks may not want to tell a pollster they're voting for a pedophile, while others don't want to admit they're voting for a Democrat. So add that to the stress of it all. It is beyond fucked up that there are people just as ashamed to be voting for a Democrat as those voting for a pedophile. This. So much. I cannot. Wrap. My head. Around it. An actual child molester.

I saw a tweet that Alabama is pretty much ranked last (or almost last) in so many different categories. Why don't people realize and want to change this?

Not surprised. He has always seemed to me like an egomaniac who would believe it's his right to do whatever he wants.

MH is convinced Jones has a chance, given that Democrats did 7 percentage points better in VA than they were supposed to, and if AL can reproduce that, Jones would win. But MH also slept peacefully all of 2016 "knowing" Hillary would win while I chewed my nails off and pulled out my hair with anxiety. And he thought the tax bill wouldn't get through the house. So I need his optimism, but I don't believe it... especially considering aggressive voter ID laws and widespread voter suppression throughout AL.

The thing that will piss me off the most is that if it IS close but Jones still wins, the Rs will chalk it up as a victory when the race shouldn't have even been close.
* Loses. I meant loses. Sorry

Wait, do you think they'll be happy if Jones wins? Or did you mean Moore? I'm really curious to see what they do if Moore wins. My guess is nothing.

For this election I feel like I can't be happy with the Dems improving on previous elections in a close loss. Because it means a child molester in the Senate.

If a Democrat wins in Alabama it will be a huge win, and they know that. Obama only got 39% of the total vote in 2008 in AL, even with record black voter turnout, and just 10% of the white vote. 10%.

Press conference in NYC in 15-20 minutes, CNN reporting. I was just with my doctor who was at 42nd during the explosion and was understandably very shaken, but my first thought after getting back on the subway was ugh, DT is going to be such a dick about this.

I went to Alabama last Monday and am really sick to my stomach that I can’t go tomorrow. Work is just too crazy right now for me to sneak off again. I am trying to stay optimistic, but I am so stressed out about it. Would love to hear what your sense/prediction is after canvassing voters? Did you get the feeling that this is in the bag for Moore? Or that Jones has a chance? (I know nobody can really know, but I think you may be one of the only people here with any on-the-ground experience.)

I'd like to be optimistic too, but VA dems had a super organized ground-game and established infrastructure that seems lacking in AL. A friend of mine from AL says that there has been historical/racial division within the democratic party there, and she was pretty concerned that the dems wouldn't be able to mobilize the black vote behind Jones. Then again, VA had some of that before the election, too. So... again... who knows.

My real hope now is that enough senators will be horrified at the thought of having a known child molester in the senate that the Rs will ice him out and he will be ineffective. I don’t have high hopes of true censure because politics. 🙁

NYPD commish did say it was a terror-related incident. Governor says bus terminal is reopening, subway service being restored except at 42nd street. Device was low-tech.
"We will not allow them to disrupt us. That is exactly what they want and what they aren't going to get."

de Blasio confirming it was an attempted terrorist attack. Agrees with Cuomo NYC is a target because NYC shows that people of many faiths and backgrounds living together can work. Don't believe there are other incidents or other credible threats at this time.
Lots of well-deserved thanks to first responders.

The ground game was huge in VA, but I’m not sure that most people outside the region had a full idea of it’s scope until after the election. The way the grassroots groups rallied here was something special. I’m going to hope against hope that AL has something similar going on.

Other preliminary facts from NYPD Commish -
Incident happened at 7:20am Injured 27-year old male, burns and wounds - confirmed this was the suspect (name given). Three others in immediate area also had minor injuries. Suspect was immediately taken into custody. Incident was captured on video Joint Terrorist Task Force investigating
Fire Commish - Three others with minor injuries, serious injuries to perp, that's it.
NYC transit expects to be back up fully by evening rush. They had a tabletop exercise last month in case something like this happened.
NYPD commish taking questions now.
(Now that they've named the suspect, I expect nasty anti-Muslim tweets from Trump any moment.)
