What about bylines? I don't care if any of you know my name (as long as no one sends my employer a bag of gummy dicks), but not everyone feels that way. And it might be tough, from an authority standpoint, to convince people to read what's written and published there if no credit is given. I suppose you could use a pseudonym. I was assuming everything would be under a pseudonym like it is here

I volunteer to be la más chingona contributer. Jk. But if you guys want Spanish content I can maybe work around that. Maybe. Lady, where have you been? I've missed your presence on this board (I know you've been on general discussion but I missed you over here)

I've missed your presence on this board (I know you've been on general discussion but I missed you over here) It's been kind of hectic on my end. My family and myself have been near the creek fire so I've been popping in and out to give random updates. Also, I'm sort of staying away from news this past week. It's a lot to deal with. But I feel good today. Catching up.

I'm not convinced this has been entirely well thought out. Running a blog site, if we're talking about something the size and scope of Jezebel, is a LOT of work and to be successful will require new content to be created, edited and published every day — or at the very least, several times a week. And if you don't have authority that Google's bot crawlers recognize (quality backlinks, clicks, new content added regularly, keywords, proper tagging, etc) you're only going to end up talking to yourself and each other. So...this is actually what I've done professionally for most of my career. I think instead of starting off looking at Jezebel and getting overwhelmed by all the ways we fall short of that, we start small and focus on creating fun, interesting, quality content and building a community. How we do this: 1) Start a Twitter. Use a tool like HootSuite that allows us to create, curate, and schedule tweets, build and manage community relationships, and also monitor performance. Set small goals and move toward them. 2) While we gear up on Twitter, I'll set up a WordPress. I'll make sure that it's structured so that SEO makes it as likely to draw in traffic as possible without paying for traffic. Everyone who wants to participate can register with a username--can be a pseudonym or whatever they want, as long as it's not going to get me sued--and people can begin generating posts. 3) Usernames can be broken down into permissions subsets. Editors will take on different sections of the site to edit/curate content. We can work on honing what we want the content to look like. When things are ready to go, we can start publishing. 4) Once we start publishing, we're basically live. We connect our Twitter to our WP. 5) If we actually are having fun and enjoying what we're doing, we expand. We get an IG and FB. 6) If we are still having fun and enjoying what we're doing, and getting a little traffic and positive feedback, we can talk about monetizing and running paid media. That's a minimum of 3-4 months away, though, and given that most of us are busy parents with full time lives, that timeline's being super optimistic. 7) So let's just have fun with what we're doing. If it works out, awesome. If not, at least we had fun. @jboogie

I would love to see @rocksforludo do a weekly follow where she highlights one great person to follow on Twitter and why I completely missed this whole thread and this tag. This is just my speed. I can't do much more than that as I'll be busy getting a museum up and running all year.

Well I'm super glad to be wrong. Maybe should have led with that, and not have responded to the people who asked for more information, "We want to be like Jezebel!" Because that's only going to cause confusion. It's also what I've done most of my career and while you and I might know how this has to work, a lot of other people don't. When I said like Jezebel, I was trying to portray the kind of scope and tone I imagined. I'm not trying to be Lindy West over here. This is for funs.

Nobody is leaving and nobody is quitting their jobs. This is not the 4th (6th?) mass exodus. This is not a scene out of The Social Network right before Zuckerberg goes live with Facebook. We just want to tell political jokes and rant about things we know on the internet to a more general audience sometimes.
But, for real, I trust @heartbot's credentials if she did want to project manage this. I'm ready with my Twitter rage and some content if we get there.

I don't think linking to the threads is a very accessible thing for outsiders to just jump in on (s ays someone who lurked around the boundaries of the politics board in TCF for like 1.5 years before joining.) I don't even know if we'd want to invite that.

With content contributed by people from the board, but unaffiliated?

With content contributed by people from the board, but unaffiliated? That was my idea, but I don't have strong feelings about it. I don't want to change the dynamic on our board, just giving an amplified voice to those who are interested in exploring that opportunity. And I think we're starting with a separate Twitter account before we go full site, so we can test it out before committing to anything more serious/involved. ETA: Unless you would want to drive new traffic to the board, of course!

Basically our deep and not so deep thoughts put out into the world in a more digestible format than weekly threads. And unaffiliated because I think most of us use these forums as outlets for more than just our political thoughts, so affiliation could get messy.

Just catching up now, but I am here for this. I am a licensed attorney, but that basically means nothing. I can however, write reasonably well (ignore the plethora of typos and such on here, because I am 98% on my phone for that ish.) I also live overseas, so I can make a spicy byline. I would happily contribute in any way I can. My personal interests include drowning in student loan debt and griping about it, comparing US systems of governance and public services to other countrys' and generally just being a snide bitch. I am here for ALL OF THIS. Comparisons to other countries would be really helpful--especially where it could lend perspective. As a Progressive in the US it's really easy to spiral into a feeling of, "Every other developed nation has this all figured out and we just suck" when that's really not true. Kwim?
