We are waiting anxiously to be discharged. I cannot WAIT to be back in my own home, and I'm sure neither can my husband since I kicked him and D out of our hospital room last night after the fourth hour without sleep due to his snoring and her being a loud newborn.
I'll have to get used to her noises, but will be glad to be able to kick him over to the guest room when we are at home.
Milk is in and I seem to have an oversupply again. I'd rather over than under, but it still sucks to see your baby choke every time she eats because there's just too much for her. Here's hoping it regulates more quickly than it did with my daughter.
Did I mention I am totally stoked to go home? Lemme outta here!!

We’re doing ok. I’ve healed pretty well and we’ve had a couple outings. To see Santa, to the park. He’s back up to birthweight and I’m an overproducer so milk is fine.
We had a rough night with both kids up from 12-3 the other day which sucked! But, I got a nap and we managed.
My mom and MH are like oral and water so a lot of my stress has been from managing them. Also I still have a cold and having a hacking cough PP is pretty mean. Thank god I didn’t have a c-section.
We’re finding our rhythm as a family of four.

We're out of the neonatal unit and she's with us in maternity for the night!!! Breaking out of here tomorrow morning 😊😊😊
It seems like my milk is drying up though. Breastfeeding wasn't really working as she was too early to get it properly (and that could have kept her here for weeks with feeding tube top ups).
I tried pumping but it is diminishing instead of going up, probably due to the stress and exhaustion after everything that happened. I'm told it might get better when I get home so we'll see how it goes but in the meantime she is getting formula mostly with the odd snack from me.
I feel guilty about it but at the same time, I wasn't fully sure I wanted to breastfeed to start with so if my body is deciding for me, so be it. I'm not convinced pumping 7 times a day to get enough to cover one feed is a good idea, even though they're all telling me it is going to go up. I have gone from 50ml to 10ml a pump so it definitely doesn't look like it to me...

Waffle - I'm sorry you're feeling so uncertain about it. I agree that I'd have a hard time finding 7 pumping sessions for one feed worth it. It may be worth giving it a go for another few days once you're home and making some lactation cookies and seeing if anything changes before making your decision? In the end, what matters is that your kid is fed and you are as sane as possible post partum, so I wouldn't make yourself crazy trying to increase supply, but if you're feeling ambivalent about it, it might be worth a few days more effort so you can say you tried and move on without any regrets.

Waffle I’m so sorry about the BF challenge. I hope your supply rebounds when you are home comfortably settled, but I agree that a fed baby is the most important thing. There is no way in hell that I could have handled being a exclusive pumper to not get a full serving. It’s stressful and you don’t need to add the extra stress. Do what is best for you and DD.

FX sarahandben108. kensie5226 - my big kid has been a less contented sleeper since we've come home, I think reacting to the changes. It's tough. We also had a good two week visit/weight check. Daph is up a full lb from last week, so at least she's doing something productive with this constant nursing. I made it to new mom nursing meet up this morning after the peds, which was good. It felt really comforting to be in a room with a lot of other women working through similar problems.

Where is everyone’s LOs sleeping? We were planning on crib to start but that didn’t happen last night and I ended up pretty much up all night holding B. We did find out today that he loves his RNP. Should we just use that and do naps in the crib? Should we leave the RNP in the nursery or move it to our room? I’m nursing in the nursery because H “doesn’t think he will be much help at night”.
I’m getting by on little sleep but it isn’t a permanent solution. I’m hoping now that my milk is coming in I can feed B and get a few longer stretches.

rooskie - we will room share for as close to a year as possible. Right now, D is in the Halo Bassinest next to our bed. I just got the infant insert for it to try to get her to like it more - so far she much prefers the RnP, which we have downstairs for daytime naps and general baby containment like during dinner. Does your H have paternity leave? If he does, the not much help at night would not fly. Even if he doesn't I'd be salty. We room share bc it's the AAP recommendation to do so, but I do know plenty of people who have had their babies in the nursery from day 1, so it's all a matter of what you're comfortable with and what works for you.

R is in a bassinet in our room. But this is only for the first 4 weeks or so, then we will move her to her room. I still nurse in the bedroom even though H is the same. Not much for him to do in my opinion since I'm breastfeeding.

officedronette - H is currently unemployed and is doing a lot during the day so I can sleep. I just feel like B is cluster feeding. And I’m sore. I think I’m going to try to call lactation tomorrow with a list of questions. Like I need something heavier than lanolin for a bit to heal up. I need to work on latches too, but B is a very strong sucker already. Our nursery is across the hallway from our room so we can see his crib from our bed. If I’m napping I leave the monitor with H because I can hear everything anyway. But for real kid, I have tried to put you to bed 3 times tonight and you keep waking up and wanting to eat. Maybe he still has his days/nights mixed up.

rooskie - it may just be me, but I HATE lanolin. I think it's too sticky and tacky. I much prefer oil based balms, like Mother Love and Honest company. The best thing I've found for healing nipples are the gel based pads. Medela makes some, as does Lansinoh. I also use a nipple shield to prevent further damage if they're in really bad shape. I had a bad crack and the gel and nipple shield combo resolved things within a day.

We have J in a bassinet in our room. We had E in the RnP next to me in our room for like 3 months. I keep them in the room until we slow down overnight nursing to once a night.

rooskie, I also used a shield with E to heal some damage. NB latches are lazy and they hurt no matter what. As your nipples get used to it and they get more head and neck control and bigger mouths, it gets a lot easier.

Also, when it comes to sleep do anything you need to to get sleep. Baby sleep is different than adult/kid sleep for the first 4-5 months. Anything you do this soon won’t cause long term habits or associations.

We were NOT planning on co-sleeping, but M was so content in the Dock-a-Tot that we ended up just placing it between us in bed the first night, and stuck with it. So we have the three of us, plus our dog, all in a queen size bed - OMG what are we doing!
We plan to move her to her crib February-ish.

E definitely has his days night backwards right now. He was up all night using me as a pacifier and now is pretty sleepy during the day. We are still working on his lazy latch. He has a pretty recessed bottom chin and that makes a difference in his ability to open his mouth wide enough. We are doing massages around his mouth and jaw in case his jaw muscles are stiff.

Someone let me sleep in my bed between the 3am-6am feedings and again from 8-10 this morning. 🙏🙏
I watched a video on YouTube this morning from Yellow Nursery (I think) and I learned a lot. They went through basically all the steps and what people do wrong and how to correct it. The 10 am feeding went way better.
And I talked to the LC from the hospital and she said to go bra-less today and just keep washing with soap and water then let some breast milk dry on my nipples before adding cream.

We had the lactation consultant come in today. Apparently we are not as hopeless as I thought. She said E's latch isn't that bad but fair skinned women are traditionally more sensitive on the breasts. So that when I always think E's latch isn't good, it may just be I am extra sensitive. He and I both have good instincts and we just need to keep practicing. So that is our plan. Plus I am extra sore because he basically cluster fed all night long.

Pumped twice and got like 80 ml of colostrum. He’s gotten most back via sns yesterday. His weight loss rebounded back to up 7.5% loss !! So I think we are good!! Now to keep at it and get discharged!!

sarahandben108 the LC in the hospital took one look at my nips and said, “oh are you a red head?” My LC said redheads are the most sensitive. I thought we made pretty good progress with his latch the other day and now I feel like we took a step back. Luckily we go back to the hospital today for a weight check so I'm going to check in with the LC again.

That's awesome. My milk has already come in and in my large state I think E doesn't latch great right now. I'll find out later if he's gained anything yet.

I couldn’t believe when I was getting engorged day two. The nurses were really shocked I got so much out (38 ml the first and 50 the second) but the same thing happened pumping with DD on day 3. I’m just scared that since they had me pump twice I’m going to have worse problems with oversupply. One thing/problem at a time though. His weight gain is #1. I forgot how many steps forward and back there are with early BFing. Luckily my hospital offered free LC weighed sessions on Weds so I’ll definitely take advantage of those again until we are chugging along.

B has this issue if I only offer one side at a feed, but he will sometimes take one side for like half an hour then pass out. At what point is everyone starting to pump? I wanted to wait awhile but I think I’ll be more confident leaving the house with him if I do have a bottle of BM with us. We stayed home all week this week but are talking about running a bunch of errands Monday.
