I believe the current plan is:
Turkey Stuffing Mashed sweet potatoes Green beans Roasted Brussels sprouts Cranberry sauce Apple pie Pumpkin pie Chocolate cream pie
I'm mainly excited for dessert! DH makes 3 pies from scratch each year. They're delicious!

Does anybody have suggestions for yummy appetizers on Thanksgiving? Preferably something vegetarian. I'm looking for recipes that I normally wouldn't bother with unless I was making them for a crowd.

We've had a change in our Thanksgiving plans this year. My only family nearby is my great uncle and he just had an unexpected trip to the hospital and understandably will not be up for company this week so it looks like it will just be the 3 of us.
I'm going to make cranberry sauce (my favorite!) and pumpkin crunch cake, since that's what I was planning on bringing so I have all the stuff. Otherwise I have no idea what we will cook or eat.

We’re doing thanksgiving with my in laws in Texas. We’re all going to cook it together. My SIL and MIL are gluten free and I’m veg, so there are 5ose added considerations. On the menu: Turkey ( BIL is doing a brine) Mashed potatoes Homemade cranberry sauce Brussels sprouts Gluten free dressing Vegetarian stuffed mushrooms (also gluten free) Arugula-apple-butternut squash salad GF Apple Pie GF pumpkin Pie GF Pecan Pie (Way too much Pie for 6 adults and a toddler, but we want all the pies!) I’m the point person for the stuffed mushrooms, cranberry sauce, and apple pie, and I’m collabing with SIL on the pecan pie. armpants, or any other GF folks who bake, have you ever used the bob’s red mill 1:1 GF flour? You’re supposed to be able to use it like regular wheat flour in recipes, with no need for changing measurements, adding xanthum gum, etc. Do you know if it works well? SIL said she usually buys a pre-made crust, but I pride myself on my flaky homemade crust, and I’m up for the added GF challenge.

I’m sorry about your great uncle @sizzlebee. Pumpkin crunch cake sounds delicious though.

aydee, I love doing stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. If you have a food processor, then they come together pretty quickly. Otherwise there is some time chopping. Ingredients: Whole White button or cremini mushrooms Onion/ shallot Garlic Olive oil Rosemary Italian seasoned breadcrumbs (or breadcrumbs plus a teaspoon of Italian dried herb mix) Red pepper flakes Shredded mozzarella Red wine Salt and pepper Take the stems out of the mushrooms and chop them up finely, plus a couple whole mushrooms. (Food processor speeds this up.) Mince a garlic clove and a shallot or some onion. Finely chop some rosemary. (Dried works too) Put a tablespoon or so of olive oil in a pan and put on medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, crushed red pepper and some (not all) rosemary. Let the shallots/ onion soften. Add the chopped mushrooms. Let them cook and then add 1/4 to 1/3 cup of red wine. Stir in breadcrumbs and mozzarella so that it has the consistency of a wet stuffing. Take mushroom caps and roll each one in olive oil. Sprinkle, salt, pepper and rosemary on them. Stuff with the mixture. Bake 15-20 minutes at about 375.

coconutbacon Bob's can be used 1:1. For gluten free baking I now use the King Arthur brand, best results I've seen.

Does anybody have suggestions for yummy appetizers on Thanksgiving? Preferably something vegetarian. I'm looking for recipes that I normally wouldn't bother with unless I was making them for a crowd. Crush pistachios. Coat a roll of goat cheese in the crushed pistachios. Drizzle with some delicious honey. Serve with crackers. ETA: crowd not necessary, I can eat this all by myself, it is just delicious and I'm making it for our app

coconutbacon, where I'm from, if you are calling anything "stuffed...." it better have crab in it! J/k, I like stuffed mushrooms even if you don't use crab.

I have had (and made) crab stuffed mushrooms and they’re good too. But the ones I am making for thanksgiving that I recommended to aydee are actually adapted from a sausage stuffed mushroom recipe though— I first adapted the recipe when I was a teen though, so I don’t remember where the original was from. They end up tasting “meaty” though!

H is cooking, I’ll assist (he doesn’t know his to cook, but he’s usually okay if he follows a recipe. He does get overwhelmed if there’s too much going on. Our Menu- Turkey and gravy Stuffing Mashed Potatoes Baked Sweet Potatoes Roasted Brussel Sprouts Cranberries Rolls (wheat and buttermilk) DD1 is bringing dessert I usually make a cranberry salsa app, but It’s just me and H, Worm, Jack, DD1 and her bf- I think it would be overkill, but it’s so yummy. If anyone is interested 12 ounces fresh cranberries 3/4 cup granulated sugar (add more to taste) 1 jalapeno , seeded and chopped coarsely (leave the seeds in if you like it spicy) 1/2 cup cilantro 4 green onions 2 tablespoons lime juice pinch of salt 2 (8 ounce) blocks of cream cheese Place all of the ingredients in a food processor (EXCEPT CREAM CHEESE) and pulse until desired consistency. Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight to allow the salsa to macerate. Serve over cream cheese and with crackers.

coconutbacon There is no such thing as too many pies on Thanksgiving! My H makes 3 kinds every year regardless of how many people we have.

mrspiatt, that is like exactly the jalapeno cranberry dip i am making....except it tells me not to use a food processor and to use whipped cream cheese.

Change in plans on the turkey...I ended up getting a whole turkey so I'm going to thaw it today, brine it overnight and see how it goes! Wish me luck.

I made two pumpkins pies last night. My first time! I'm tempted to cut one and keep it at home but I really don't need a whole pie at my house. Especially because I know MH will prefer his mom's.

That squash looks amazing. I get so much squash in my CSA, I’ll be trying that when I’m back home!

coconutbaconIn my family we have pie pie. So when it’s dessert time and you want all the pie, you ask for pie pie. And the server knows to load me up! Also very confusing if people don’t know about pie pie, they just stare
