cagoldi - That story is hysterical, though it brings to mind our first Thanksgiving with both my parents and my ILs joining us. It came up that both DH's and my paternal grandmothers have the same maiden name. It's nothing particularly rare but between that and the fact that DH look similar (my Mom upon meeting him for the first time said "he looks more like your brother than your brother does"), and oooh boy did my Dad have a field day. He and my Mom tend to be a bit crass while my ILs rarely unclench, so THAT was fun... People always think my mom and dad are brother and sister. It's made for some odd encounters lol. My sister and BIL were at the gym and someone was like, "It's so cool you always work out with your sister!" They do look alike...

Haha.
These are cracking me up. I've definitely seen couples that look like they could be siblings.
Pete and I would never have this problem.
Dude looks like Pete, and X looks likes me, and nobody would ever know they were related, much less think Pete and me might be.

We always start by watching the Macy's parade. DH wants to go to it one day but I'm all like "what do I do when I have to pee?" Usually we go by my family but this year we are going to DH's brother's. We usually go there Christmas Day but they are an hour away and I thought my CS would be closer to Christmas and we wouldn't be able to go. While I love my family, we will have 10 kids 10 and under. H's brother has 4 kids but they are 16-21 years old and so super nice to my kids so I will be able to relax more there. I have no idea what they do for food but I'm at that point where more than a few bites makes me feel so full and gross.

The last 10 years I’ve spent thanksgiving at my in laws’ house. The first several years we had Jell-O shots. Then we upgraded to signature drinks. Pear martinis, etc.
We always have a magnum bottle of wine for dinner.

I remembered today that if I'm not with extended family for thanksgiving then I'm eating at Cracker Barrel. Since they do a traditional meal with choice of sides it is a really great option. I did it several times in college. I might try and convince mh to do that this year.

My mom always has said that spouses who look like siblings have a greater chance of staying together (what?), so we always joke that my red headed fair skin sister and her super dark Haitian husband have no chance of making it. MH don't really look super alike or super different, we've never been told we look lime siblings though!

guster , I'm with you, I love Thanksgiving b/c you don't have the commercialism and pressure that comes with Christmas--it's just family and good food. Plus my birthday usually falls on Thanksgiving weekend so that's kind of fun. We are hosting this year...my parents, sister/BIL, and BIL's parents (who live about 3 hours from us and are great). We have pretty much the same meal every year. Christmas, we mix up...ham, turkey, prime rib...but Thanksgiving is pretty static, maybe plus or minus a dish here and there. Luckily it's all good. Our menu: Traditional roast turkey, dressing, and gravy, Sweet potato casserole (pecan topping, no marshmallows allowed), Green beans, Broccoli salad. Corn pudding, Sister Schubert dinner rolls, and Cranberry sauce (yes, the stuff in the can. I don't get it, but there are some in my family who cannot survive without it.) My sister's MIL loves to bake and is bringing pumpkin and pecan pies. Will you share your sweet potato recipe? Because mh is avoiding processed sugars, I won't be making the sweet potatoes with the marshmallows that is delish, but figured i could do a pecan (& oat) topping instead. I've been researching paleo recipes for it on as off all morning, but I'm so overwhelmed with the sheer amount. I'm sure yours calls for butter and brown sugar and maybe even maple syrup, but I know I could substitute coconut oil and agave. Sorry, just saw this! Not sure if this will work but maybe you can adapt it. The can of sweet potatoes I use is 40 oz. You could probably use fresh and cook them but this is the recipe my family has used for 50+ years so there’s no going back for us now

The last few years we go to my cousins/aunts house day of and have a big family meal. They are not hosting this year. My aunt who lives in San Diego offered to host but not many family is going and it's the day after. So I'm getting food on Monday to cook on thanksgiving. We'll see how it goes.
