Sorry for the novel...
So my afternoon actually started off poorly. I heard that my office mate's son (early 20s) died last night. I don't know details and not sure if I will find out because she's pretty quiet on family things. I believe she was a teen mom and he was partially raised by his grandparents but the past couple years they have gotten so close so I cannot even imagine what she's feeling. I'm not sure what to do for her. We weren't extremely close and the funeral will likely be out of state. Hopefully I'll think of something.
The next is AMAZING and crossposted to J15 because I'm just thrilled!
So my sister recently filed for child support for my niece (16 months old) because the father refused to help our socially or financially and has not seen his daughter since she was 3 months old. He was pretty harsh and manipulative of trying to talk my sister out of wanting child support from him. Well, she received word from the state today that he will owe her over $10,000 in back pay and over $600/month going forward. He always claimed he was broke so he couldn't help out.... turns out he was making more than my sister monthly and she was still sending him money/buying him things when they were dating. I guess if he's broke he's about to become even more broke. I'm so happy for my beautiful little niece as my sister said over half of the monthly payments (if not all) will be going into a savings account for her.
I could just cry I'm so overwhelmed!!

I have been off board for most of the day. I found out I failed my 1 hour GTT. I am so bummed. I really wanted to avoid the 3 hour but I guess not. Monday morning I will be getting my test done. 😑

jessijean so sorry to hear about your co-workers son. But happy to hear it sounds like a lot has been resolved for your sister and niece and I hope things continue to go smoothly for them!

My doctor called me last night and told me I'm getting diagnosed with gestational diabetes so. Boo. This is a new one for me. I have a consultation Wednesday morning with a diabetes specialist so I'll start learning more and hopefully find it not too hard to manage. Anyone else here have experiences to share? I know it will be a bit of work, but I'm feeling mostly ok with it, just a little overwhelmed until I get used to it. Huge bummer for Christmas though! (And my birthday is the week before!)

I have a consultation Wednesday morning with a diabetes specialist so I'll start learning more and hopefully find it not too hard to manage. Anyone else here have experiences to share? It sounds like there are freaking animals in my attic. I’m going to lose my mind and definitely can’t sleep.

I'm sorry. That is a bummer. I think maddisonrose and aprilz81 have experience with GD. Yup, I had it with Ava and I'm pretty sure I failed my glucose test yesterday. I tested my sugar this morning and my fasting level was 131 (my doctor wants it below 120). Ask for a monitor where you can test in your arm or somewhere other than your finger. I hate the monitor I have now so I will be getting a new one. The one I have now can only be done in the finger tip and I spend my day typing so that doesn't work well for me because testing 4 times a day every day is not good for my fingers. I also have a problem with this lancet not getting enough blood from the site so I end up having to do multiple fingers on one test, it is the worst, but again, that is the monitor not testing in general. After my diagnosis my post-breakfast and post-lunch numbers were always on target but my fasting and post-dinner numbers were always high (by high around 130 and my doctor wanted them at/below 120). My mom is a nurse and my dad and grandma are diabetics so she assured me that that number is not high enough to do damage to the baby or me which made me feel better. After a few weeks of trying on my own my doctor put me on oral meds to help keep the levels steady. I was only on the meds about a week before I delivered Ava at 32 weeks so I'm not sure how much it would have affected my ability to be a little more flexible on my food options, because I felt very limited on what I could eat before the meds. You will learn pretty quick what does and does not work for you as far as food choices. For me bread and any sort of pasta (wheat or white) was pretty much a no-go but fruit in moderation and chips were okay. I could eat potatoes but not a huge portion. I found some sandwich thins with about 12g of carbs that I could eat for lunch with some chips and my number would be fine. The most important thing to be aware of is that YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE if your numbers aren't perfect. Even perfect eating may not give you perfect numbers and it is not you, it is how your body is currently processing glucose.

Good luck to you too! Every plan is a little different but if you don't have your monitor yet you can start by counting carbs and doing what you can. Most plans will have you eat about 30g carbs for each meal and about 15g carbs per snack and it is important to pair carbs with protein. Look for hidden carbs (diary, potatoes, beans, other veggies) as it is in a lot of foods that you wouldn't think, it isn't just "sweet stuff". The first few weeks with your monitor will be trial and error as you figure out your own specific trigger foods. Example: My dad can eat a pear and have his sugar raise more than if he had one Reese Cup. Obviously the pear is healthier (fiber, nutrients, etc.) but sometimes "good for you" foods will affect your sugar more than what you are craving. I'm trying to find the forum where I got a lot of good advice last time but I must have deleted the bookmark.

Thanks aprilz81 that's a helpful guideline while I wait to see! And every dietician will have a slightly different plan, there is no "PLAN" that everyone follows. Your lifestyle, weight, current pregnancy weight gain, activity level, etc. will all play a part in what he/she recommends for you. And your plan may be adjusted depending on how your body reacts, so do the best you can and be honest with yourself and your medical team so they can do their best for you. No one is going to eat 100% perfect for the rest of the pregnancy, we will want a piece of cake at our showers or we really just need a few Reese's Pieces while we watch Project Runway. We just need to make sure that those "cheats" come at a smart time and try to pair the treats with protein. And then we need to monitor our levels to see if those cheats are doing too much harm, some people's bodies can handle it and some don't. So that is where the honestly with your medical team comes in. We can do this!
