Our time change was this past weekend, but as usual, it takes a few days for the kids to sleep later. In the EU apparently something like 75% of people want to get rid of the time change. Besides the fact that it always sucks with little kids, how do you all feel about it? Except our AZ ladies - does not apply to you

Had a lazy day today. I am for doing away with the time change but only if we always have more light at night. I’m not sure what it would revert back to if we did away with the time change.

I’m scared that without the time change we would be pitch black at 3pm for a good 6 weeks. That would be horrible! That said, there’s movement to discontinue it which I don’t know how that would work.

It’s going to be barely 30 degrees here to TOT tomorrow. I’m kind of dreading it. Dh and I are probably going to buy a car tomorrow and he’s freaking me out with how high he’s willing to look. So much $. Also, my workout for tomorrow...courtesy of dh... I may die.

I don't need the time change, it's such a hassle.
LO has his preschool Halloween party tomorrow and he gets to wear his costume. Normally H drops him off on Tuesdays but tomorrow I have drop off duty, and I can't wait to see all the kids in their costumes.
LO has been singing so many songs lately. It's so cute. He loves twinkle, twinkle and the ABCs. He seems to really be a sponge right now, everyday he comes home with a new word or something. Good thing he has all these gems, otherwise the whining would really be too much for me.

That said, there’s movement to discontinue it which I don’t know how that would work. They've been talking about getting rid of it here, too. I'm on the fence. On one hand, we wouldn't have to deal with the kids, but on the other, it would end up being dark super early.

That said, there’s movement to discontinue it which I don’t know how that would work. I think you have it turned around - in winter we already have the time that makes it darker earlier. So the worst that would happen would be it would stay that way and it would get dark when it does now. I'm guessing that would be the time they would keep since that's the "original" time and summer time is daylight savings time. If they decided to keep summer time then we would gain an hour of light in the afternoon/evening in the winter compared to now. And trust me, I know how you feel - I live at the latitude of middle Canada. During December it is dark by 4:30pm.

Why do I still live where it snows every month of the year?

Does anyone want to take M shoe shopping for me? Lol. It decided to snow this morning so I need to get her boots, like today, because she can't walk around in canvas shoes in the snow. If it wasn't ridiculously expensive for toddler shoes, I'd get her a pair of Stonz boots. I might have to anyway. I'm going to try a couple of cheaper places first.

I just found out a good friend from college had very early preemies this summer - one was stillborn and the other just came home after 4 months in the NICU. My heart is breaking for her. Life can be so unfair, and whenever I hear of stillbirths I have to think of all of the women on our board who have had to go through that hell.

crimsonandclover sorry to hear that. I definitely did not realize how often families go through that when I was younger. So sad.

How was Halloween?! We had fun. Dd grabbed her pumpkin and headed for the door. She was so excited. We went to a few neighbors houses. She enjoyed it. We prob had 30-40 trick or treaters. Less than last year.
We are starting a new operating system at work today. Lame!

crimsonandclover that is definitely not a topic discussed in sex Ed or social circles and it’s so sad. I wish parents didn’t have to struggle through that alone as often as they do. TOT was fun, the kids got a haul. I found them sorting and munching on their closet this morning before we got up. 😜 oy. Today I sent them to parents morning out and I’m trying to find some energy to finish a few tasks around here. I am completely wiped out. We bought a car yesterday so I guess we can officially bring baby home next spring. Somehow having 5 seats to choose from really didn’t make the car seat arrangement any easier. I wanted dd3 by a door for easy loading, but it didn’t work. All I can say is, thank goodness it’s not a van and I am getting heated seats in it next week so if I must have a car pmt at least I’m gonna like it.

We spent about half an hour truck or treating last night. Lo had fun and learned to say "twick or tweat."
Anyone have pics? Here's us.

I would love to get rid of the times change. The only thing that makes me the slightest bit wary is that without DST, it would be light by 3:30 am here in the summer. Ouch.

I got her the Stonz booties on sale yesterday, I just need to order the liners for them. I went to 3 stores before I got them and I found 1 pair at each that would fit, the first ones was only temperature rated to 14° F which Alberta winters laugh at and they cost the same as the Stonz, the other 2 were better, but we're like $70 which is ridic. I don't spend that on shoes for me, and I'm not going to outgrow them before the winter is over.

We went out trick or treating for almost 2 hours last night, after about half an hour at the mall with my BFF. M was a trooper. She walked (ran) the whole time and didn't whine once. They got a decent haul, and we didn't even get to that many houses, but there were so few kids out everyone was giving out handfuls of candy. I think we saw 10 other groups out. S started complaining about 20 minutes in that his bag was too heavy, but he got a lot of candy so he was happy in the end.

Yeah, that would be the kicker here, too. As it is, when I get up for work at 5am, for the few weeks around the solstice I don't need the light on in the bathroom to take a shower. But really, almost everyone has black-out blinds on most windows here, anyway, as do we, so I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference. It's still twilight around like 11-11:30pm with DST, so I wouldn't mind if that moved up to 10-10:30pm.

lollipop what about those rain boots that you can put inserts in? Bogs maybe? You could but New inserts and save some money. Also, they are super easy for kids to put on. We pass all shoes down and accept all decent condition handmedowns. I do not typically purchase random used shoes either, something about knowing where they came from helps. Shoes are crazy $$.

It’s weird, I don’t usually buy secondhand shoes, but used rain boots and snow boots for kids don’t bother me. I think it’s because rain boots are so easy to clean, and snow boots get so little use here.

We got the Stonz booties. They're awesome, my BFF lent us some last year and they fit her perfectly, mostly because they're shaped like sacks with adjustable plastics around the ankle and calf. They sell the liners separately, which is annoying, but they are so worth it for how warm they are. And even with buying the liners separate it's cheaper than anything else I found that I could get on her. nellieoleson I think I could deal with rain boots second hand, and probably like dizzycooks said, gently used shoes from people we know, but that's about it. Winter boots tend to get used and abused here. S is still wearing his from last year because they still fit, but I think he's managed to break the zippers

Ladies my husband took all the kids and went to his parents house until Sunday. I am giving myself today to clean and straighten up and then I am going to enjoy 36 hours of clean, quiet house. This hasn’t happened in forever. Possibly 5 years. This is dd3s first trip away without me so I’m hoping it goes well. I feel like I’m on vacation. So of course I had to get a decent lunch, despite all the leftovers in my fridge

Dd2 has had a cold this week, and wasn’t sleeping well because of it. Yesterday she seemed to be on the mend, so I was hoping her sleep would improve too. Nope nope nope. That’s what mommy gets for wishing for nice things. 😭
She was up and whining nonstop from 2:30 until 4:30, Then finally went to sleep but was up for the day at 5:30.
I’m very tired, but what’s new... the worse part of that I am already so fucking annoyed with the whining and just feeling over-touched by her in general and it’s not even 6 am. Ugh.
My sister is coming to babysit in a couple hours and my H and I are going to a special beer release brunch at a brewery, so at least I’ll get some time away. But honestly I feel too tired to even enjoy it.

dizzycooks - yay! Yay! Yay!! So awesome. And I’m glad you got a tasty lunch. Enjoy your sleep, your clean house, Netflix whenever you want, and NO WHINING! The dds are going to my moms next weekend and my H and I are going out of town for 2 nights. It will be dd2’s first time away from me overnight. I’m a little worried about leaving her but it is MUCH needed.
