In my room crying I just can’t handle it anymore. S1 is negative so about 95% of his day. He’s been like this for awhile but it feels worse and magnified. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I can not get him to play with his toys. I can’t get him to do anything. The only things he’ll do without a flight is movies or tablet and usually books. Tonight he complained about reading. He says he hates everything. He no longer will eat hot dogs, tacos or pizza which were things I could count on. Tonight he ate a piece of bread with butter after melting down because we made him a hotdog (this is where I learned he didn’t like them all the sudden) and refused to drink anything. I am at a loss

Hugs jedi. That sounds really tough. I hope it’s just a short phase that passes quickly.

The dermatologist cut two spots off to test yesterday and they are in spots I can't reach so I had to get DH to bandage them for me after my shower...he was surprised at how deep they are and seemed to think I am tough for not really making a big deal out of it...I will remind him of that to show him I am not just a big complainer at the end of my pregnancy when the going gets tough for me. Not sure if my explanations there make sense.

taketheshot Sometimes nightmares at this age can be related to things that kids have seen in movies or tv shows. Toddlers can't distinguish fantasy from reality, so even things like Disney movies can be overly frightening or stressful even though they're rated G. This is also the time of year for spooky halloween shows. I avoid those like the plague with my kids since they can definitely lead to nightmares and other fears at bedtime. If there's any possibility that things in shows/movies may be scaring her, you might try taking a break from those things for a while and see if the nightmares subside eventually.

Ethan fell asleep at like 930.
He woke up around 11.
It’s almost 2 and he’s still awake.
I haven’t slept yet. I’m so tired

I hope you’re sleeping now jedi and are able to sleep in. These toddlers all need some sleepy dust!

I’m en route to my race. It’s rainy and windy, but at least it’s only 5 miles I have to get through. Then just two 5K’s and an afternoon volunteering at the marathon expo and I secure my spot for the 2018 nyc marathon!

I'm sorry jedi. Could these behaviors be side effects of his medication? I hope things change for the better soon.

I think the children (because S1 was awake during a lot of that) fell asleep at 3. Then H’s snoring kept me up. S1 woke up at 7

Finished my race! Back at home now. Going to shower and then get a fancy coffee with MH and P. We were planning on doin the neighborhood Halloween parade, but it’s rainy— I need to check if it’s cancelled.

You know what’s fun? (Read not fun). When your toddler throws a toy which hits your coffee cup (full) and knocks it on the floor. Future baseball player. Ugh

coconutbacon, are you happy with your time? Or did you go more as a "participant"? Either way, I hope you had fun!

Zoo was fun, but cold. M enjoyed it until he got a chill when his pants got soaked on a playground. I think even after changing him he couldn't get warm. But we have passes, so it's no big deal to not see the entire zoo each visit. Relaxing the rest of the day.

jedi sorry yesterday was so rough with your DS1. I would maybe consider starting to do some behaviour charting to help get a sense of what might be driving the behaviour. Kids are tough, and there are definitely some things that they just do, like all of a sudden decide they don't like something they did before. But if it is a new medication, I would consider some of those side effects. You could also maybe try to use the things he likes right now, tablet etc. as a motivator for to completing some of the other tasks you want him to try. Or set it up so he has control over how he chooses his activities (for example he is allowed x amount of time with tablet/tv, and once that time is up, it's done for the day...so he can do it first in the morning or later in afternoon, but once the time is up, it's up.). This may allow him the independence to pick when he does those desirable activities, but then leaves time open for lots of other thing. I heard a parenting speaker talk about setting up your home/family rules for everyone that way (it was called positive parenting with a plan). So the same 'rules' apply to everyone (ie/ everyone gets 60 minutes/day to watch TV. And stick to it. The behaviours will most likely get worse before they get better, but hopefully they get better. And everyday is a new day. Hugs. Parenting is hard.

coconutbacon, are you happy with your time? Or did you go more as a "participant"? Either way, I hope you had fun! I am actually— I wasn’t expecting to do well, because I know it’s a hilly course, I hadn’t actually trained well over the past couple weeks and it was rainy and slippery. But I actually ended up feeling good and ran with a faster pace than I have for other recent past races of similar distances.

Parade ended up being cancelled but there was still a kids Halloween party in the community center, and they had the marching band play and we did an indoor “parade” there. It was cute. They also had activities and a bounce house set up, although P was a little too intimidated to do the bounce house, which had lots of bigger kids playing in it. She got apple cider for the first time and loved it, and also a cinnamon sugar donut.
