The O2 mask was my nemesis during labor, right behind the blood pressure cuff. It had an extremely short cord and went off automatically with the most annoying sound. After it was all over, H was like "it was pretty weird that a baby was tearing through you and all you cared about takin off the cuff" Ughhhhh that blood pressure cuff. Omg. I somehow forgot. I had bruises from that thing. I hated that so so much. Mine was too big and kept slipping down to my elbow. So annoying! Although for most of labor, the worst pain was from my IV - first nurse blew out the vein in my left arm, so they had to go the the right. I had a huge bruise on my left arm.

I also may try to avoid getting an epidural this time around as it's my BIL who's on call during the 10 days after my due date as the anesthetist. He said he can call in a colleague to do it if I need but to give him a heads up. So we will see what happens.
I should have stuck with delivering at the other hospital. But I was feeling lazy and didn't want to be driving an hour just for my 5 minute appts with my OB there and then have to be an hour away for labour/delivery/recovery with trying to find people for the other 2 kids before.
But I'm slowly starting to regret it. Lol

For how much I love pain meds, I sure do hate IVs. I asked for my portal to be removed asap after DS was born, even though they said they prefer to keep it in for postpartum blood draws. Nope, just stick me again.

Since my water broke early with DD and DS, I went to the hospital as soon as I could, no laboring at home. Unless you count the contractions I had for about a week and a half before each were born.
I remember very little of the pain due to my all of the drugs policy. I napped a lot and watched bad tv. My epi wore off right before I had to start pushing with DS, which was very unpleasant. Luckily, both kids were out after only 5-10 min of pushing. That is probably wishful thinking this time around because I'm allegedly incubating a giant.
I'm sort of nervous about this whole induction deal.

I'm attempting to VBAC and hired a doula. She went over some comfort stuff with us at our last meeting plus she'll come over when I go into labor if I need her to. My water broke last time and we rushed in but I required being induced because my contractions were consistent but weak and weren't picking up. If it breaks again I don't plan to go in for a few hours unless I'm actively contracting. I have to be on a monitor the whole time for a VBAC so I'm hoping to labor at home as much as possible. I'm also going to push to get a coveted walking monitor this time. No one offered me one last time so I was stuck in bed for 33 hours and it made me crazy. I'm really hoping the fetal monitors have improved at my hospital in the last three years. I was technically allowed to move around a little (basically just on or next to the bed) during my induction but those things were so clunky and looked like they were from the mid 90s. The nurses were getting so annoyed with me because every time I moved AT ALL, the monitors shifted and had to be readjusted. I am sorry to say that they probably have not changed. Still those lame paddles on stretchy belts that they strap to your belly which shift every time you laugh, cough, or adjust your position. Or any time the baby moves. Waste of time!

Cuff size is super important to accurate readings so really insist this time that they get you one that is the right size. I'm not huge or anything (though I am overweight) and they have to use the big cuff on me or all of my readings are artificially high.

They messed my heplock up twice in triage, including blowing a vein in my forearm on the first try. I had a bruise from wrist to elbow and cussed the nurse out it hurt so bad. And I'm usually pretty goid with needles. Getting my heplock out after having it in for over 40 hours was my big bugaboo.

It automatically took my BP every couple of minutes so it was more of the machine being too strong than the cuff itself. And I had to wear the cuff for several hours (while I had pitocin I think, idk I don't remember lol).

No bruises. XD I bet they were using the wrong cuff. That sucks, either way! Hope that doesn't happen this time.

misskilljoy it was not pleasant to say the least. They used the standard size (which should be ok ... I'm an average to smaller size person and don't have big muscles or anything ha ha). It was just one pain in the ass I didn't need ever. I'm going to put this in my labor "plan" ... keep that BP cuff machine thing away from me! And if necessary make sure it isn't too tight.

All this talk of labour is making me excited.
But not excited, DD you stay put for another 6 days, please and thank you.
We all know I'm getting induced this time around, my first induced labour as DS came naturally. My contractions started with him, 7 hours later my water broke, 6 hours after that I had the epidural. So 13 hours of back to back labour was just great. When it actually got to the point of having the epidural I was to far gone (pain wise) to stay still so it took a LONG time. My mum had to have a stern talk with me lol.
Epidural caught a nerve going in so my back is screwed and has even ever since. So if I need to have one, I will, because it's already screwed from DS labour.
I'm very go with the flow and will use gas and air until I get to my maximum point of pain.
IV was a pain as it was just getting in the bloody way. I had that in for another 5 days after birth as well, I begged them every day to take it out but I still needed some meds.
I just hope my body and DD cooperate and does what it's meant to do, without waiting 28 hours this time. That's my goal, less than 28 hours and no c-section lol

I have this on my list of questions for the ob at my appointment next week. I have an rcs scheduled for 39 weeks but I'm not sure what that means in regards to if I go into labor on my own. Do I call and meet at the hospital right away, labor at home, or what? Anyone know from experience?

It depends why you have an RCS scheduled. If it's for medical reasons, get thee to a hospital asap because they'll want to get you to the OR before babe descends too far. If it's because of personal preference, then I don't see why if you went into labour at home you couldn't labour at home if you chose to.

snuff9861,I'm basically having one since I had dd by csection. I was induced at 37 weeks with her due to low fluid and high bp. Failure to descend was my reason and recommendation from the ob. There is a large chance of that happening again. I guess I'll be calling asap.
