I kill all the things... But I'd love a veggie garden. Where do I start?? Raised beds with good soil, and things that are easy to grow! I know we live in very different planting zones, but I've found beets and asparagus to be really simple. I'd recommend just planting several things you like and seeing how it goes!

We have zucchini, peas, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, cantaloupe, strawberries and pumpkin in our veggie garden. DS is growing a cabbage as a part of his summer project for school (rising 4th grader). He's tending to it and has done so much research. He's convinced he can win in his school lol! I have mint along the side of the yard as nothing else will grow over there and we love mint. I have two herb planters with rosemary, chives, thyme, basil, oregano and sage.
My flower beds have foxgloves, hydrangea, roses, bleeding hearts, gladiolus, coral bells, lilies, hosta and lily of the valley. I have pots with lots of annuals. I love my gardens!

We have tons of lettuce right now. The strawberries are not doing well. I'm thinking they're not getting enough sun yet, which will improve soon. But they didn't do awesome last year, either. The jalapeno is smaller than it was this time last year, but there is still time for it. Our garlic we planted for the winter turned out not great. I need to check the soil and see if that's contributing to some of this. It's making me sad to see so little for the second year in a row.

I had high hopes of making some raised beds for planting veggies but that is going to wait until next year so I can focus on the disaster at hand. We have lived here 2 years and our landscaping is more of a jungle than anything. The original owners had beautiful gardens and it sounds like the wife and husband were very meticulous about them. The next owners (the ones previous to us) rented the house and did nothing to maintain other than mow the lawn. It is now my mission to excavate these gardens. Last year I did very little because pregnant. I really should take before and after pics. This barrel had some sort of janky ornamental grass in it. Now it has a beautiful little boxwood and flowers I can't recall the name of. This is after digging out a ridiculous amount of weeds and oak that took off running. The left side has been filled and seeded (fx grass grows soon, it looks awful) and the rest I added some top soil and black mulch. Towards the back of ^that image you can see my downspout sticking off my porch. This is my plan for that: It is about 80% shade there and acidic soil so stones FTW.
