Yesterday a white male passenger on a busy train began yelling at two Muslim women including one in hijab. When three strange men came to their defense they were stabbed. Initial reports said they had throats slit. 2 of them have passed and the third victim is in the hospital. Thankfully no one else was hurt. This was a very popular commuter train in a nice neighborhood aNd th happened very close to me. It's absolutely Scary.

That's awful. The language our president uses to describe groups of people matters. The hypocrisy of the last poster is astounding.

Every time I see or hear something she's said in the last few months I get all sad again thinking of what should have been.

I wish Trump sat down and realized the role he's played in increasing racism and hate speech and how that helped cause things like this and then hated himself. But I don't think he understands it. Or if he does, I don't think he gives a fuck.

Tragic doesn't feel like enough. It's beyond tragic.
Fuck. I'm worried this will make people not speak out, which is exactly what they want.

This story just makes me sad and makes me sick. It is ridiculous jay the president of the United States does not stand up against violence like this.
The stabber needs to rot in jail.

It is such a sad story. I was reading an article and it immediately said they were investigating whether or not the attacker was mentally ill or on drugs. Once again the narrative is geared toward white terrorist= must be on drugs or mentally ill. It also makes me angry that it stereotypes people who have mental health issues as automatically being violent. This whole situation is heartbreaking.

Dan Rather's FB post: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158743532925716&id=24085780715Dear President Trump, Their names were Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and Ricky John Best. One was a recent college graduate. The other was an army veteran and father of four. I wish we would hear you say these names, or even just tweet them. They were brave Americans who died at the hands of someone who, when all the facts are collected, we may have every right to call a terrorist. This story may not neatly fit into a narrative you pushed on the campaign trail and that has followed you into the White House. They were not killed by an undocumented immigrant or a "radical Islamic terrorist." They were killed in an act of civic love, facing down a man allegedly spewing hate speech directed at two young Muslim women. That man seems to have a public record of "extremist ideology" - a term issued by the Portland Police Bureau. This "extremism" may be of a different type than gets most of your attention, or even the attention in the press. But that doesn't make it any less serious, or deadly. And this kind of "extremism" is on the rise, especially in the wake of your political ascendency. Most people who study these sorts of things do not think that is a coincidence. I do blame you directly for this incident. Nor do I think other people should. But what a President says, who he has around him, and the tone he sets can set the tone for the nation at large. Perhaps Portland, Oregon is off your radar. It is, after all, a rather liberal place. It's even a "sanctuary city.." But it is still an American city. And you are its President. Two Americans have died leaving family and friends behind. They are mourned by millions more who are also deeply worried about what might come next. I hope you can find it worthy of your time to take notice.

What happened is absolutely heartbreaking. And I hate that it's not being called for what it is. If it was reversed Trump would absolutely be talking about this and inciting more hatred and fear.

I find it so incredibly disheartening that the people who stand up for what's right are the ones punished. And of course 45 will not say a thing because this is the man who called for violence in his own rallies & fired up the simmering masses who already held these beliefs. It's like he has no idea of the ramifications of his rhetoric when you're in the highest level of leadership. Where is the integrity?? I don't think 45 has no idea. I think, at best, he doesn't care that his rhetoric has emboldened bigots; and I think it's possible that the intent of his language is exactly that (encouraging bigots).

Maybe I'm suspicious but I definitely feel like his intent is to stir up racial tensions. It's part of what got him elected and I don't think he feels at all bad about that. It doesn't affect him and his.

The city is just reeling from this. One of my friends graduated with Taliesin and he was just incredibly beloved. I travel that very train route often and keep wondering what I would have done. I'm mainly just thinking about the waste of life and feeling sad.

I hate that this happened. And that they are trying to explain this man's actions as based on anything but terror and hate. I will pray for the families of the victims.

There was nothing more heartbreaking than Obama's repeated speeches at the funerals of people killed by gun violence... this is not the same, but I have to think that the former president would not only mention their names and speak out, but appear at their funerals and speak eloquently to the families of these ( in my eyes- heroes) The stark contrast in personalities, leadership and and humanity is so marked and saddening. I miss the Obamas for so many reasons, but in times when the President is needed to heal and comfort a community- there is a sad and disheartening difference.

I saw this and I couldn't help but be angry, sad and almost hopeful at the same time.
I'm angry that 45 has pushed an agenda that has spurred further hatred like this. I'm sad that these families have to live without their loved ones because of this hatred. It also gave me a glimmer of hope though because it showed their is still faith in humanity. I want to believe that there are other good peole just as these 2 young men who would stand up and do the same.

Trump condemned the train attack! But he did it from his @potus account, not his @realdonaldtrump account. So it seems more likely that an aide did the tweeting, not him. Why wouldn't he condemn it on the twitter account he uses all the time?

This is the type of occurrence that I wish Republicans in Congress who have stood by Trump would take notice of.
This is why you don't put people on a pedestal who treat people of a different religion like they are nothing. This is what we were afraid of. This type of emboldened behavior, being taken to the extreme.
I am angry.

Even when Trump does address a tragic event i.e. the Manchester bombing, and offers his condolences there are no real emotions behind it. You can tell someone just shoved him in front of the camera and said "here, read this".

Trump condemned the train attack! Via Twitter. Not through a speech or a statement to the press. Yeah, not at all the same. One victim had 23 years in the military, you would think that would deserve a speech or the fact that this was an intended attack on children.

Local news has reported a man carrying the deceased veterans backpack and wedding ring leaving the train during the hysteria. He has already been caught.
