Alright, so yesterday was open house. Following open house was the pto meeting. They said childcare was available in the gym right across from the where it was at (the cafeteria) so we figured to go since this year it's almost all new people & since it's the start of the new year, we kind of wanted to hear if there was anything new going on, etc. First we asked DS if that sounded like something he wanted to do because we did this once last year & he loved it. The difference between this year & last year is that they closed all cafeteria doors so we couldn't see him once in a while through the little windows of the gym door. Ok, fine. Stupid meeting started about 10 minutes late. About halfway through, DS came in, got a cookie. He was happy, was all in tact. Great. It kind of negated my now thought that we maybe should have checked on him once in a while (but then again, no one else had to & my god, he's 6.) Moving on. Meeting was over maybe like 20 minutes after that point. We go to the gym, DS is on the floor holding his wrist crying & there's a couple of kids next to him kind of consoling him. Some 'older' sibling (she was maybe 8 or 9 ok) was like oh it's okay, he just needs ice. It's a sprained wrist. (?) are you a medical professional? The person that was supposed to be watching them didn't see what happened (of course.) The stories there were just that he fell. Now I don't know if any regs from the bump days have good enough memories of all our shenanigans but within his first few weeks of preschool, he ended up with nursemaid elbow. It's when you get pulled by hands hard, the elbow joints get dislodged. Well, the way he was in pain reminded me exactly like that went down. He couldn't move it so we went to the ER. The only way that heals is to have it set back into place. While we were there, he calmed down & told us that he was on the floor & his classmate was pulling his hands to get him up off the hulahoop that she wanted. He's 50lbs. That's a lot of pressure on the hands so my hunch had to be right. Luckily, we live in a small town, the ER is right up the street & the wait wasn't long. The doc did that same movement to set it back into place like before which was magical. Last time he was instantaneously better. This time he still complained his wrist hurt a little but after we sat there for a bit, he said his whole arm/hand felt like the other one. It probably was still hurting because she pulled him so hard. So that was our damn night. & what's crazy is I was really having second thoughts staying for the stupid meeting because all they really do is run around. I was blaming myself a lot last night like we can't even leave him be for an hour without him managing to get hurt & I ALWAYS tell him to never let anyone pull you because I see it all the damn time at school. Also, his arms are like made of jelly, there's no resistance. Some of these other 1st graders literally have muscles. My kid, you hold out his arm & most likely he'll drop it. Lol so that's also the problem too. Which is why he's in OT. Anyway, so now I've been pondering do I contact someone about this incident or just let it go? I mean, it's not like anyone is going to do anything but apologize. *& if you read all that, you're the best*

Yikes NamasteBirches! I'd be pretty upset. I do remember your story when that happened to him a while back. Seems crazy that another kid could pull on his arm that hard. But it sounds like he goes to school with some strong kids. I just can't believe that no one came into the meeting to tell the teachers/parents/someone that a kid got hurt.

Ugh. I have no idea what I would do in that situation. I do not look forward too that age. I was a mess and always getting hurt all through school, so that's all I have to compare it to. I'm so sorry. Glad he's back to feeling okay, at least.

This was also my thing too talking it over with DH. Like the meeting is not that damn serious. You can't just come in & freaking tell us?! He told us it happened right at the end so maybe their stupid reasoning was it was just going to be a few more minutes. Ughhhh I guess we made it 3 years incident-free.... :/ With that first incident in preschool, looking back (dh & I were talking about this a couple of months ago), my money is on it being caused by a teacher. I've seen them through the years still hold kids' hands when they're throwing fits while walking & that's basically exactly how it can happen & since he wasn't talking at that time, we'll never know but that's my hunch. This time though at least we know it was a kid.. & a girl, too. Go figure.

NamasteBirches I'd be pissed that someone didn't come and get me immediately or stop what was going on. If it was me I would probably report it and say I'm upset that my child was hurt to the point we had to go to the ER and that no one came to tell me when it happened or were even able to tell me what happened. I would say I'm concerned that there wasn't enough supervision for the children especially as it turns out he was injured by another student. I would say I'm not looking for an apology but want to let them know so something like this doesn't happen to anyone else in the future.

When you say report it, what exactly do you mean? Since this was after school hours (it was almost 8pm) when the meeting was over, I'm not really sure if the school would file an accident report or whatever it is they do. Should I just email the PTO since they're the ones that kept advertising 'childcare was available.'

NamasteBirches I would definitely email the pto and in all honesty I'd probably copy the school on the incident as well. It happened on their property and involved students that go to their school so even if it was after hours I would likely still want them to be aware of the situation as well as maybe making a point of telling them that this was the second such injury received by my child and I would like the staff to take extra care with how my child is handled by students/staff so as not to receive another injury like this.

We are going out to dinner tonight with DH's sister and some friends. Their last minute planning totally stresses me out. We have to get childcare...we need notice for things like what time we are going to dinner. I feel horrible letting people know last minute what time we'll be dropping DD off. They finally had it all figured out last night around 10:00. I guess that is some notice, but damn...I am a planner...I want to know what is going on at least a couple days in advance!

CC the principal since it was on school grounds. I remember you talking about the first incident years back. I'd be mad it happened again and no one came to tell you. Big hugs.

It's Homecoming tonight so all students are being dismissed early for the parade and game. I'm taking DD to the parade but we're skipping the game. I'm not interested in football and I'm pretty sure she'd be bored too. We're going to see a movie instead.

Who cares. You're the parent. They can think whatever they want. I'm a teacher and I've never had any issues with involved parents. I always prefer it. And with my DD, as a parent, I am also super involved. I figure any staff members with kids understand at least somewhat where I'm coming from:)

NamasteBirches I'd definitely email PTO and cc the principal. They need to know that he was injured enough to visit the ER. I was prone to nursemaid elbow when I was a child. My sister was 2 the first time she pulled my arm out of place (and I was 5). It's so common among young children and it's so easy to do. DS has had a couple similar incidents because he is so much smaller than the rest of his classmates. (For reference he is wearing size 6 at age 9.5 and weighs only 48 pounds- most kids his age are in size 10 and weigh about 70-90 pounds). I've always been notified immediately though and all of his injuries have occurred with other children just doing normal playing activities. I hope your DS is feeling better! Poor buddy!

I have regretted not making a big deal out of the incident that happened in preschool but we were new to the school & I wasn't as vocal as I am now. It always irks me seeing their 5 star rating poster thing at the preschool wing whenever we're there. lol Sometimes it just feel like it's literally always my kid. Oy. Like if it's gonna be a kid, chances are it's mine.

I'm so glad we have a 3 day weekend. DS slept in this morning, that was nice. He's perfectly fine today & was the same once we got home last night, too. I have to learn how to set it back myself. Save us a trip to the hospital but FX it doesn't freaking happen again. We won't be going to any meetings anymore. I'm just really not enthused to get involved tbh. We went to instigate the new members & get any new information which we kind of did, the 1st graders may be going to the aquarium this year as their big trip which is new but everything else is really in their emails. It's kind of a waste of time. Anyways, DS & I ran some errands earlier & now we're just moping around. I have the emoji movie on for him. Ever since his party, he's been obsessed with emojis again.

NamasteBirches,Glad your are all back to normal and have some downtime, but what an ordeal! I'd definitely bring it up in an FYI kind of way with the PTO at the very least. Hope they respond appropriately and take it seriously! Nothing much planned for this weekend. My daughter's nursery school has a cool butterfly program tomorrow and that should be fun. Other than that, I am going to work a little on my freelance job and take it easy. I will try to make sure I have time to exercise too. I gained so much weight during writing my dissertation at night and on weekends while also working a FT sedentary job, it is ridiculous.

I'm tired. We went and checked out this play place called Tiny Town that was really cute, and DS had a blast running around, so I'm glad we found it! He's napping now, and I am trying to motivate myself to get off the couch and get some more cleaning done instead of napping while he finishes his nap.

Today was school spirit day at DD's school. At the open house all the kindergarteners were given school t-shirts and were told to wear them today. Unfortunately, they didn't take into account how small most of these kids are. They aren't the fitted style shits, just a regular baggy t-shirt. The size given out was a kids medium. DD looked hilariously cute in the huge shirt. It probably won't actually fit her until shes 10 or so. I guess at least the kids will have the shirt for a few years before growing out of it.

R has been cracking me up all day. It's been a really good morning/afternoon. A few rough spots, but nothing too bad. Cuteness has made me forget them. She has eaten her weight in frozen blueberries and peanut butter today. Here's a cute video of her watching herself on the forward facing camera. She kept sticking out her tongue. It made me smile.
