This is funny. Did y'all know HRC is funny? I thought the same thing when I was reading. I literally LOL-ed at the Antichrist story from the Inauguration. I've only had a chance to read a chapter and a half. Hoping to have more time to read on Friday and this weekend.

I'm listening to the audible version. I had credits and I'd have to wait at least a week to get a physical copy. I've never listened to an audiobook before.
It is weird hearing Hillary read her own words.

I've finished the first couple of chapters and I love her calling what's his face on his Antichrist bullshit. That was awesome. I want to dive back in tonight.

I'm about three chapters in. The story about Chaffetz shaking her hand at the inauguration and then posting the picture to say "Glad she's not President, the investigation continues" -- and then she's like "Honestly, I thought you were Reince." LOL!
She is really funny, and smart, and this is really unfair.

I just bought it to read during naps/MOTN wake ups. It'll take me a while, but I'm excited it seems good so far!

I'm in the chapter that details the day-to-day of her life on the campaign trail. The part about staffers thinking flavor-blasted goldfish are better than the original, "which is incorrect." The part about how they all talked about food all the time on the long plane rides!
YOU GUISE, HILLARY CLINTON AND HER STAFF ARE JUST LIKE US!

I'm really liking it...and a friend of mine who has worked for her for years got a shout out so woo hoo!
I like that she's being honest about the emotional toll this has taken on her, while clearly demonstrating that she's still made of steel.
Also, everyone who is saying she should shut up and fade away can get fucked. If anyone has earned the right to candidly speak her mind, it's Hillary.

The latest issue of TIME has a big feature about women being the first to do something and of course, HRC is featured.
Anyway, I wanted to quote a couple parts of her piece. (I know it's not the book, but it fits here.)
"Sexism still exerts a pull on our lives and our choices. It is a very subtle but clear challenge that has to be acknowledged and confronted. So we have to be doing all we can to open the aperture of understanding and acceptance. My gender is my gender. My voice is my voice. I love to quote the first woman in a presidential Cabinet--Frances Perkins, who served under FDR--who said, 'The accusation that I am a woman is incontrovertible.' So embrace that, and be proud of it."
"I don't want anyone to be discouraged by my defeat or say they shouldn't try or support others who will try. We can't give up trying. The fight was worth it."
I love her. Before this election cycle, I wasn't necessarily a fan of hers; it's one of the reasons I voted for Bernie in the primary instead of her. Learning more about her over the last couple of years has been amazing.

She's on PBS News Hour right now. I had literally just clicked a link to recommend that my library buy the ebook*, and then I turned on the TV and there's HRC.
*I read the intro sample from Amazon, but I'm on a book-buying moratorium

I shouldn't post so early in the morning. That ^^^ was worded so awkwardly. Anyway, the next natural topic of conversation, which that article doesn't dive into, is media group-think. I have read a few interesting pieces on that since the election. If I can find them, I may post them as a separate thread for discussion.

The part about how people would come to spectate early on in her career because she was "a lady lawyer" in Arkansas and no one had ever seen that before...
The part about how guilty she felt that Bill lost reelection to the governorship because she hadn't taken his name....
Fuck the patriarchy, seriously.

I just finished up the section about activism, and the distinction she makes between activism with a practical goal in mind, and wearing the "activist" label but just being obstinate really resonated with me. She really summed up how I feel about the far left flank of the Democratic Party sometimes.
