Forgive the awkward photo. These pants are too short aren't they? I could obviously hide them in tall boots, but I'd like to be able to wear them with flats too.

dizzycooks - I don't think they are toooooo short. Maybe they would be better with another 1/2 inch, but I don't think it's a deal breaker if you love everything else about them. They would look cute with flats. I may be biased, though, because I'm super tall with a crazy long inseam - so I may just be used to pants always being a bit shorter than ideal.

I thought it was bad when Dd2 was up for the day at 5:15 yesterday - but today she showed me I shouldn't complain about such things because she was wide awake and ready to get going at 5:05 this morning. I really thought we had moved past this phase. I mean, at LEAST 5:45??? Please?? I am blaming whatever canine is wreaking havoc on my life right now.

effing canines! Why are they the sloooooowest to come through?! dizzycooks, I agree with nellie, I don't think they are too short and would look just fine with flats. Oh and..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Man, that weekend kinda flew by. Not happy it's Monday. I'm WFH and sneaking out in a bit to take the dog to the vet. It's her annual and she needs a bunch of stuff so $$$$.
Meet the teacher tonight for DS's 1st grade class (school starts Wed!!!!). Then Karate. Another busy day!

We never had it with our animals, but I don't know if that's because it doesn't exist or it's just pretty unusual. I've looked into it here - if we were to take the plunge and get a cat or two, I would get health insurance for them. It's like $10 / month if you get it when they're still pretty young.

dizzycooks, about the pants, I think they would be ok with flats. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, though. I don't have the best fashion sense. We're on day 1 of preschool vacation, and everyone is still alive. That's a win, right? And I sold one of our infant bucket seats today. I'm using the money to buy myself books. I am completely in charge of selling all of our old baby stuff, and this round (infant car seat and double stroller), I'm spending the money on me. I should probably tell DH that first, but 1) he will not even notice that the things are gone unless I tell him, and 2) I'm 99% sure he'll be fine with it.

dizzycooks I like the length. I wear all my pants at ankle length though...I feel like it makes my legs look longer and leaner.

I've looked into it and instead I created a savings account for Annie. I think I put about $50 a month automatically in there and don't even think about it and I've been doing this since she was a puppy. But I like having that $ there! In fact, today they told me that I really need to get her teeth cleaned (they are getting bad) and it's to the tune of $700+. With her savings account I don't have to worry about pulling that $ from somewhere else. I decided on the savings account route because if I had a really healthy animal, I'd be paying out all that money every month over years & years and then never have access to those funds. I'd rather have the money there if I need it for Annie and then if not, it can be used for other things.

I forgot that it was a long weekend here. Not unusual for me, because with H's schedule long weekends don't really affect us. Except I'd planned to call and book dentist and eye appointments for the kids, and dentist for myself (H needs one too, but I'm not booking for him). But everything is closed until tomorrow.
In other news, I spoke to my sister, and she doesn't want to babysit for me until I can find someone permanent. Which is fair. But she feels guilty and keeps apologizing. So now I have to get a sitter before I can start a job.

ETA dizzycooks , did you ever get the booties? Depending on the height you could maybe wear them together. ETA after reading to the bottom - you'll look amazing!

I remember now why I've always just worked around H's schedule. I'm so overwhelmed/intimidated by the process of finding childcare. We've been very fortunate to always have friends and family who were willing to jump in and help. Most daycare centre's near us are out of our budget or don't have the option of part time care, I don't have the slightest idea how to go about finding a trustworthy day home, and I have no idea how to find someone to come to us that's available for when we need them. And how does it work with getting S to school? Some of the centres do bus drop off and pick up, but I have no idea what a day home would do.
I just spent an hour applying for receptionist jobs, so I really do have to figure something out.

lollipop I'll come back to this, but typically you just change the before/after school address and he'll either walk from the provider (if within walking distance) or catch that addresses bus from their assigned stop. The provider would know how it works. Although it needs to be within his schools attendance area. If it's not then the provider would agree to do drop off as part of the job (or not and you wouldn't select them ). Dh had a sore removed today and they are concerned about cancer and need him to come back to get several other miles checked. We should get biopsy results in a week or so. I'm freaking out. Tonight we are taking the kids to the county fair for my birthday. Wish us luck. We've never all gone.

lollipop our schools also all have YMCA provided childcare so you sign the kids up for the schedule you need. We are allowed to change it with two weeks notice. So dd1 will attend 6am-6pm (I can drop off and pick up anytime during those hours) and I might choose M, W, F one week and the. Only Monday the next depending on my schedule.

dizzycooks fingers crossed all is ok with your hubs I don't think your pants are too short and happy birthday! AFM- trying to hire people is a bitch. I just drowned my sorrows in snacks I bought for the kid. FYI pretzel sticks dipped in peanut butter and then chocolate pudding is a surprisingly good dessert 😬

I'm planning on baking cupcakes for a friends party, but they want them filled. If I do a strawberry jam filling is it ok to fill them and frost them 24hrs before the party? I'm nervous about them getting mushy. Tips and tricks?

We are having a quiet day at home today. My kids finally got themselves told to not just go over to the neighbors. They are no longer welcome bc they are annoying and knock incessantly. I'm sure this makes me a negligent parent. <shrug> I care, but I kind of don't. Now they can't leave the yard.

I'm nervous about them getting mushy. Tips and tricks? They will prob get more moist, but not soggy. I would refrigerate, but keep the top of whatever they are in cracked so condensation doesn't build up. I filled dd2's birthday cake this year with raspberry jam, and made it the day before. The jam soaked into the cake and discolored it a bit, but it still tasted great and wasn't soggy at all. Are you cutting holes in the top and spooning in the jam?

We have a neighbor kid like this and it throws me off every single time she shows up unexpectedly at our front door. I think if I had a dd who was a little older I would expect it and probably be happy for someone for them to play with, but it is strange when I'm working on something with the girls, thinking about getting dinner started, and this 6 year old shows up alone and wants to loiter around my yard. She is a super sweet girl, it is just a bit much sometimes. Do your neighbors have kids your dds ages at least?

I know! There is no way. She said she wants a yellow and blue one. So I was like great.... we can get a macaw that will outlive all of us. Nope! I can't imagine having a bird to take care of. At least a cat or dog is a mammal with normal mammal needs. But a bird? I would have no idea where to even begin...

Their mom sah but she doesn't spend nearly the amount of time outside playing as my kids. I'm all for sending them out to play, but theres a lot more screen time at that house and a lot less schedule so I really don't know when a good time is without calling and I feel like the kids are old enough to not have me micromanaging their playtime. Growing up we just went and asked to play, none of this arranged play dat business.

dizzycooks, so scary! t's and p's for your H. I hope you get results soon! And I WISH there were kids DS's age to come and play like that. All the kids in my neighborhood are older so we have to drive to play dates, etc.
