Hello, hello.
I'm looking for good cloth PT options. DS is just about ready to potty train, but I want to wait a few weeks until I'm out of morning sickness hell. Are Flip trainers good? They just look like a regular diaper but with snaps on the side. DS keeps ripping his diapers off (4.0s and perfolds with covers). Most of the ones I see are fabric only so aren't leak proof, which is what I'm looking for. I'd prefer not to buy actual pull ups, but haven't seen great cloth options so far.
I have no idea what I'm doing, how many I need or how long this may take.

I would recommend whatever alcoholic beverage that you prefer. It may take years.
ETA: oh I missed that you were pregnant. Skip the alcohol part for now. (I'm currently trying to potty train my 3 year old, can you tell it's not going well?)

I don't have any actual cloth trainer advice. I have some smart bottoms and blueberry trainers and they hold just a small amount of pee before they leak, no pul or anything in them. It sounds like you want them to be leakproof though.

I think it's obvious to say that every kid is different. We used the Oh Crap 3 day method and it worked great for us. We never used the trainers I bought. YMMV.

I found trainers to be useless also. We used side snap blueberry simplex at the very beginning stages of training. Snapped a little bit loose they can be pulled up and down, but are still a diaper. Then went right to underpants. I never found a trainer that was leak proof.

We did a few trainers, but ultimately ended up with pull ups. I was so sick, and so tired, I just couldn't handle it and she seemed to be on the fast track to PT, so I wasn't about to spend the money on trainers.
She was mostly dry in them, but using the potty, when DS was born two months early.
She spent a month at my mom's house and had a huge regression.
About two months after we came home, she said one day she was done, and that was it. It was another few months for nap/overnight, but we just followed her lead.
How old is your PT kid and when is the baby due? That will affect my opinion.

loony He only turned 2 in May, so is young still. He's really into the potty though. He climbs up and down on his own all day long to pee, and rips his pants/diaper off as soon as he poops now too (😭). I'd be fine waiting but he makes of show of it all now so thought it might be worth a try. New baby is due in March, and I was hoping to give PT a go before it got too cold.

DD was fully potty trained (still wearing pull ups, but rarely having an accident) at 18mo...I know, she's kind of freakish, but when our world went through upheaval, she revolted. Luckily, she only pooped in a pull up once after that, but it was a good two months before she was mentally ready again. Cloth trainers IMHO were no better than underwear. As much as I hated pull-ups, they were a lifesaver. I mixed commercial character ones with compostable Naty By Nature (Amazon Subscribe and Save)...we used these as our once a week daycare back up and overnights with DS, because nothing else had contained the fire hose. They're kind of pricy, but make me feel better.

Another vote for no trainers. I never used the ones I bought. My kid also trained at just over 2. It was fine.
We once used pull ups at nap/night at first and now just at night.

Any trainers that I've used that will actually contain an accident feel so similar to a diaper they treat it like one. That being said, the Nicki's trainers can handle pretty much anything, but they're hard to get off after a poop accident. My youngest is currently potty trained only while naked. The second I put anything on her lower half, forget it. Just my opinion, but potty training a 2yo while pregnant is easier than potty training a 3yo with a newborn. I vote go for it.

Thanks, guys. I'll probably skip the trainers, or just try the cheap 3 pack cloth ones. He feels like a big boy in those but they absorb a bit so it's middle ground I guess.
This is both overwhelming and emotional. Wtf pregnancy hormones.

We went with naked time. M was potty obsessed for a long time, but it took several false starts before she was actually ready (the first time we tried naked time she just peed all over the floor with no cares). And then poop was a whole other beast. I'm super anti-bribery for everything except potty training. A tiny "special treat" (aka a dehydrated coconut/date cookie thing) was the secret weapon to pooping in the potty.
C was born when M was just over two and we decided to not even attempt PT until after C was born (since they sometimes regress after a baby and I decided that I'd rather deal with two in diapers than accidents). But C was only a few months old when M got all gung ho about it. We got little potties for upstairs and downstairs so that she could handle most of it on her own, so it really wasn't bad to deal with a NB and a PTer. Now we're trying to get rid of the little potties because C thinks that they are THE BEST to play with.

My advice is don't waste your time. Wait til after the baby comes. Then don't waste money on trainers. Go pant less.

Oh and when pantless- when you leave the house just loose pants. No undies

Hang in there.

I was going to let J train himself like L did but he just DGAF. I need him in preschool next month and hid all the diapers and made him go naked for a couple days and that was it. I'm so glad I waited til he was older and could understand and had more control. Then after a couple days we bought fun undies.

And this guy has been awesome. Not that it was easier for him to learn but that it's easier for him to do it on his own and I don't have pee all over the floor and toilet. Don't mind my shitty ass trim that never got painted when we moved in lol
