In light of ::all this:: I’m wondering what you are doing to take care of yourself.
I scheduled myself for a lasik consultation because I’m tired of managing my eyesight.
We’re also buying a few pieces of furniture in anticipation of prices going up.
What are you doing to give yourself some light in this hellscape?

We have Friendsgiving this weekend. 4 couples and our gaggle of kids. We have been doing it for years. These people fill my cup like nothing else.

I splurged on a bunch of new underwear that I like from Soma. When it gets here, I’m throwing away every single “uncomfortable but not ratty enough to throw away” pair I’ve been putting up with. Now I just need some coping mechanisms that aren’t retail therapy.
I’m going to take a sick day next week even though Thanksgiving break is right around the corner. I desperately need a day to lie around kid-free and just do nothing (or something! If I feel like it!)

I spent way too much money yesterday at Athleta. But it was a good sale.

Booked my son and I a trip to Vegas in January. Now I will have something else to focus my nervous energy on instead of all of **this**

I recently got back into pottery and took a short break over the summer and started it back up on Election Day. It is exactly what I needed and I look forward to it every week. After the first couple of sessions I am finally starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of it again. It pairs well with my renewed interest in my houseplants so I'm working on new planters.
Maybe in a few years I would love to at least get a wheel set up somewhere in my house to supplement weekly studio sessions.

But also I’ve been allowing myself to sit and watch tv or read without feeling guilty

I think I've mentioned that my mom got into pottery as her retirement hobby. She bought a wheel off FB marketplace and eventually a kiln also. It's one of those things that people who do it for work grow out of their equipment and sell off the smaller versions to buy larger. Never would have guessed.

I was binging holiday movies but hit Hot Frosty on Netflix yesterday and realized I needed to get things under control. I am looking around for the next thing. It might be the deep clean/purge/updating decor of the house and yard.

My plan to become a forest witch isn't going the way I'd hoped so, for now, I'm hiking and baking and surrounding myself with my friends.

Truthfully I have eaten and slept like shit since Halloween and am not getting the movement I need. I need to get back on track this weekend. Because this week, surrounding myself with my friends also meant surrounding myself with a pitcher of beer and fried cheese.

I have been trying to live through a hellscape for a few years and here's what I've been doing: - Paring down the kids activities. I don't have it in me to run from game to practice to game every day. Kids are happier too with one activity each and more down time. - Reading more - No cable. Just some streaming services and reading. Listening to records and music. - Investing in little creature comforts. A phone stand for beside the bed, a bathtub tray, candles.

I bought some new really plush bath mats for our bathroom. I didn't realize what I was missing out on.

It's finally Fall weather here and I've been opening my back doors and playing music in the house. These are very small things that I can control on my own home and it's so nice. Also burning things: fancy candles, Maroma incense and Palo Santo.

I backed out of hosting Thanksgiving and signed up for a fun run that morning instead. We backed out of hosting this year too. Our parents don't get along with each other anymore and we're just tired of listening to them snip at each other. I like the idea of signing up for a Turkey Trot that morning!

I've been taking a tap dancing class since January. I did it for a really long time as a kid and it is nice to be back in it. You can't be grumpy when you're tap dancing. We are gearing up to be the only adult performance in the winter recital.

I don’t know, but in New Zealand there was a protest in parliament and a Māori lawmaker performed the haka and I cannot get enough of it.

I'm redecorating my house, moving furniture around and hanging new shelves, and drinking from my holiday coffee mugs. The Halloween mugs have stayed in rotation and the one I picked today says Meowy Christmas.

DS is in between sports for the first time in… ever? So he and I are baking all the things with our newfound free time.
I’m buying lots of banned books. I asked SD if she has any on her TBR so I can get them for Christmas.
I’m also making plans for all the tattoos. Because fuck it. I’ve added three in the last six months and they’re definitely self care for me.

We have a Thanksgiving tree up for the first time. It's just our pre-lit tree with only the white lights on, some dollar store harvest/Thanksgiving ribbon, and our daily dose of gratitude on different shades of yellow sticky notes. I originally wanted my kids to make construction paper leaves, but it didn't happen.
I'm also trying to get back into reading for pleasure and checked out some Christmas books from libby just to escape life. It's been easier on my eyes and brain to read my paperwhite again before bed instead of doom scrolling. My neighbor gave me her old bike so I should start taking it out on a regular basis.

Well yesterday I spent the day at a head spa and MH impulse bought a car. So we’re handling things really well.

I love the idea of putting gratitudes on the tree. We usually do a turkey and add feathers that we write on. This year, we are making “gratitude garland”. I cut out different colored leaves and we are clipping them onto a string I stretched between some windows. I can’t wait to see it filled up.

For the longest time we had a brown paper bag cut into a bare tree shape taped to the pantry door right in the kitchen. Id have fall colored construction leaves and everyone would fill one out thru the month of Nov. Wed read them at Thanksgiving I should do that again you know since m a grandma of 2 kids I gotta embrace a bit of overkill on the holidays
