HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Here's wishing you your favorite candy and your family has a great day! What you got planned?
Grandson decided yesterday that he wants to be a train And baby grandson is going as a skeleton
we for the first time aren't going to be home the whole night My son's girlfriend says if she can't get him here from Berkeley for Halloween she wants us. So we are all planning to head up to her house/neighborhood for an hour or so of Trick or treating/passing out candy.
Here's to eating tons of reeses and not getting sick lol

We bribed the kid not to go ToT with Robux. Score. I didn't want to go out, it's windy and rainy.
I dressed up this past weekend for a party and imbibed. A lot.

I have a workout to do. DS may or may not sit outside and hand out candy. Our weather isn't terrible but it is damp as hell out there. Otherwise I'll put the candy in a flat on the porch steps and shut theblight off when it's gone. I didn't buy much so it won't take much. Our part of the neighborhood is usually dead. You have to go at least 3 houses in any direction to get to another house.

We had a great Halloween. DS2 is at the perfect age and we went as dragons.
He is in bed after enjoying some treats. He had so much fun going house to house. We had at least 75 kids DS1 said- he was tallying for the most part. We live in an active area and it was so nice to see so many kids out and about tonight.

For the second year in a row ds has gone to "work" at his friend's parent's haunted house instead of trick or treating, so H and I walked around the neighborhood and then watched the OG Buffy movie. So good.
I miss cute trick or treating days. But these people put on an amazing haunted house in their backyard. They had almost 300 people come through, and it's SCARY. DS had fun.

Thank God my DD has a better memory than I do about our "traditions" LOL! I was offering them a quarter for each piece of candy they didn't want from tonight. They got so much in only an hour as a duck (DD) and The Hulk (DS). My DD asked instead if they could just count out candy as their Advent calendar like the last few years. They'll each get to eat a piece of candy with breakfast in December as part of our countdown to Christmas 😄

Halloween in our Philly neighborhood is so fun.
No porchlights or doorbells. If you are giving out candy then you are sitting outside. Everyone is out talking. There are hundreds of kids moving around every block. My own kid finds her friends, loses her friends, finds other friends. One of the restaurants had free hot chocolate. Easily, we give away 500+ pieces of candy. My kid came home with that much..
It was in the 70s last night here so even better! I think we were out from 5:30pm to 8pm.

We had forecasted rain that held off, but the high school also had a varsity football game last night. The combo meant a lot less TOTers in our part of the neighborhood than normal.
We all sit in our front yards to hand out candy while chatting. So it was still fun. I was giving out double the quantity of candy at the end so that we could wrap it up.

DD had fun! She never liked Halloween much as a little kid but she loves it as a teen. She went with her best friend and they just put on Mickey Ears and went as Disney rides. Whatever works, lol. They saw basically their whole school while out.
Our area was super slow! Very few kids. The ones we got were either 6 and under or 13 and up. Both equally delighted with candy.

It was the first time in recent memory it wasn’t chilly for Hallowe’en! We got some rain but that’s about it. All six of us went and had a good time. The two year old TOTing was so cute.

Also one guy asked if I was dressed as the Hunchback and my jaw dropped because I…wasn’t dressed up. I didn’t know how to respond and then clocked I put my sweater on over my mini backpack because it was raining. I was like damn I know my posture has suffered the last few years but hunchback is crazy. 😂

Dd loves going with my nieces and nephew but she said that a lot of people gave her candy but not before kind of looking her up and down first but she was in full costume so 🤷♀️ We told her next year she can bring a friend if she wants so she is already talking about next year

Let them have their childhood traditions a bit longer! It’s all too short as is. I do love that our neighborhood embraces the teens. Costumes not necessary.

We skipped TOT - we'd done the trunk or treating, a haunted, house, a costume party, and the school party so I think DS2 had a fair amount of Halloween that I'm trying not to feel too guilty for not taking him out on a super windy night. P

I do not care who trick or treats at my house! There was a full adult in costume who came up with his bag out. You got it, man. I actually apologized that my candy was lollipops and not even “the good candy.”

joy I love it. The past few years our neighborhood has gone all out and I've been saying I feel like I'm in an 80s movie. We have bike cops come through, the fire truck drives around passing out candy, there's tons of kids, people have fire pits in their driveways. It's the best. I love to see it busy.

Our neighborhood is fun too and almost all the parents dress up. H and I were out later than DS. He ran around got a ton of candy and then went home with his friend and my dad to sort and trade candy. H and I walked to three different house parties and hung out with our friends.
Gatekeeping trick or treating to little kids or costumed kids irritates me beyond belief. It’s supposed to be fun and magical. Just relax everyone.

My kid came home with a pepperoni roll in his bag, wrapped in cling-wrap. I think if I had found it last night I would have put it in the fridge and eaten it today (he wouldn't have wanted it), but after sitting in his bag all night, plus the ick factor of not having a clue who it came from (he went with friends in a different town, so not my neighbors), I think it's going in the trash.

I'm looking at my kids' candy piles, and our neighborhood was so generous this year! Chocolate, Skittles, the good gummy bears, airheads, etc. No smarties or candy corn LOL.

There was a lady in my hometown who made popcorn balls every year. My mom questioned it the first year (which was a weird take in the 80's). Her friend was like "Oh, it's Glenna. It's fine". (Glenna worked in the school cafeteria. Everyone knows her. Because she was the town gossip.) I never had to vouch for my popcorn ball again. Otherwise it would have been gone. I would do the same. I appreciate it but if I don't know you, I'm not eating that. If I know you I might also not be eating that.

I grew up in the country so we had to drive from place to place - which meant you only went to a handful of places but they made it worth it. Bags full of candy, homemade treats, apple cider. And I give my mom credit for loading us in and out of the car with costumes and often times winter clothing - because I have totally avoided it since moving out of town.

This was our first year trick or treating in our new neighborhood and it was so much fun. We started with the town Halloween parade with our neighbors and ran into a bunch of my kid's friends and teachers! So fun. We ran into more friends while trick or treating around town and our kids got so. much. candy. We passed by the college dorms on our way home and those college kids were giving out fistfuls of candy. The kids physically could not fit any more candy in their buckets and or carry any more weight.

I actually apologized that my candy was lollipops and not even “the good candy.” I was dressed up as a pirate and had several houses offer me candy too! I passed but the thought was appreciated. The college kids were offering me and my H candy too, which is funny because they're half our age.

My kindergartners were so excited to get their pencil this year since the last 3 years we sent their candy and they got nothing. I’ve always let them keep enough to have 1 pieces a day from now to Christmas.
