The beach?
There’s a fun tour that Bobby’s Bike Hike does that has you biking through the city and eating Chicago favorites. They supply the bikes and helmets.
Is the zoo too uncool for a tween? Lincoln Park Zoo is free.

The WNDR Museum is a fun, interactive art museum in the West Loop. I don’t know what weekend you are planning to go, but you can always check out which street festivals are going on. They will have live music, food, and other activities for all ages. You can also check out what is happening at Pritzker Pavilion. They tend to have free shows there. Green City Market Oz Park For food, pizzeria portofino is a fun restaurant on the river. Or if you want to go higher end, RPM Seafood is upstairs from it. Best views of the river. Or Bonci in West Loop. They sell pizza by the inch and it’s so good. Island Tiki Hut has good fish tacos down by the river. .

My tweens’ favorites from our last trip.
Giordano’s pizza Sky Deck Big Bus tour of Chicago
The bus tour was really enjoyed because you could stay at the various stops as long as you wanted (within reason- I think the bus ran for like 10 hours or something).
