This is the slippery slope I am a broken record but I will die mad at people who said those who predicted this were being hysterical

One of my podcasts also reminded me that cancer patients sometimes freeze embryos before beginning treatment. So now we are making life harder for cancer survivors or, god forbid, their bereaved families

dc2london I had 2 D&Cs for the same reason. Both times, I was measuring 2-3weeks behind with no fetal heartbeat. ❤️

Hugs, friends. I know this is bringing up a lot of emotions for a lot of us for various reasons.

A friend of mine was telling me that when she quit paying for her embryo storage in Louisiana they had to be shipped elsewhere to be defrosted and it was a huge pain in the ass. I wonder how the laws there compare to Alabama. This was true for us in TX as well a few years ago. We kept ours for a few years until I firmly decided to be done with IVF (the hormones from the transfer cycles were v v bad for me). We had to have them shipped to a facility in NV to be discarded.

When RGB died, I cried and told my husband that we were going to lose abortion rights now. He said I was overreacting. There have been many "I told you so"s in our house since then. Not productive, but felt necessary.

This world is a fucking nightmare.
Big hugs to everyone being smacked with loss feels. I feel so thankful I went through my MMC and d&c at a time and in a place that I didn’t have to worry about dumbass fuckheads interfering with my care.
I would love someone to release the “life” to the state and make them in charge of the cost of storage. Knowing how little they care for children once they’re born, I wonder how the state would react to that. I mean it opens a ton of slippery slopes but I wish they’d be like oh fuck bad idea. Never mind.
I’m so angry right now I wish I were on a regular keyboard to smash the keys a la firigngifisnrogocbsue. Doing it on a phone does not have the same effect.

I have a dumb IVF question
I heard a woman on NPR who was supposed to have an FET today at Alabama but, obviously, it was canceled. Presumably, that means some embryos were thawed for the procedure. What happens to those embryos now? Can they be refrozen?

What happens to those embryos now? Can they be refrozen? This may vary at different clinics but when we did our FETs they thawed the embryos the same day as the transfer, so hopefully they have not been thawed yet. I honestly don't know if they can be refrozen. I am so devastated for these families. I can't imagine going through this. Having to go through IVF is already such a stressful thing. My first IVF baby turns 11 today so I'm all in my feelings about this. I can't imagine life without my girls. We ended up using all of our embryos so this won't personally impact us but I am so heartbroken for those it does.

I don’t think it would be ideal to refreeze them. No idea if they would even do it.
I feel so badly for everyone in the middle of treatments right now.

What happens to those embryos now? Can they be refrozen? Mine were thawed the day of but I know of a couple of ladies from the old board who had an embryo thawed so it could be PGS tested then refrozen. It’s pretty risky. nelzie - happy birthday to DD! My IVF miracle’s birthday is Sunday so I’m with you in all the feels.

Presumably, Alabama has adult to minor ratio rules, correct? So if, as the plaintiffs in the AL Supreme Court say, a storage facility for frozen embryos is akin to a daycare center, must these clinics now appoint staff at appropriate ratios to supervise the frozen embryos? Because they are children. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but it is an example of how reckless this ruling was and the chaos it creates.
