I finished The Finance Solution and The Elephant In The Room this week. I'm part way through both The Romance Dilemma and Those Who Wish Us Dead. Hopefully I can make a good dent in both, if not finish them this weekend. I ordered a physical copy of Hummingbird by Natalie Lloyd that I'm excited to read then put out in my classroom for students too. I just listened to an episode of This Podcast Will Kill You and Natalie Lloyd opened it with her story-and I promptly added Hummingbird to my TBR shelf

I had a sixth grader tell me she was in the mood for a murder book today. Some kids have been asking for murder books since fourth grade. The new wave of true crime girls 😂 I am not surprised when adults say it My 8th grade niece was telling me her friend (or maybe it was her? I can’t remember) wants to read A Good Girls Guide to Murder when I saw her over the holidays. It was fun to be able to tell her that I read those books and have that in common 🙂

The Covenant of Water I has sucked me in much more strongly than I anticipated. I designated it my night time book for the month but I can’t think about anything else today. This is good to know. The audiobook keeps coming up on my holds list, but at 31 hours, I just need to be in the mood to start it. I keep hearing about how good it is. Maybe after I finish ACOMAF I will start it. my plan was to take all of January and listen to 1 hour a day of the audiobook, but yesterday I listened to 3 hours. Reading along so I was at 3x, 1 hour of real time.

Just finished the Tom Lake audiobook and I actually enjoyed it more than reading the physical copy. Which is very rare for me. I just love Meryll.

I feel like I keep seeing Tom Lake popping up and I don’t know why, but I assumed it was not a new book, and it just happened to be getting mentioned in a few of my book places. I finally looked it up just now and it’s a new release from last year, so that makes a lot more sense now! I’ll have to add it to my list, especially if it’s a good audiobook. I’m always looking for good audiobooks that aren’t just celebrity memoirs (which I do love BTW, but there’s only so many of those).

I just finished my first book of 2024, "House of Open Wounds" by Adrian Tchaikovsky and it was absolutely fantastic. One of the best fantasy books I've read in forever and a great start to the new year. It was loosely connected to his book City of Last Chances which I also loved and I hope he writes another book set in this world.

I actually don’t think I would have liked the book all that much if I hadn’t listened. It was 5 stars for me because Meryl was amazing.

Should be right up your alley!

I have never kept track of all of my books read in a year but decided that I am going to try this year. I think I'll set my goal at 100.
December is so busy I usually stick to quick and easy reads. I found a series by Pamela Kelly called "Nantucket Beach Plum Cove" I think there are 8 books plus a few spin offs which I am just starting. I've also been bad about going to the library, but I have jury duty on Tuesday and wanted an actual book to take with me. I picked up 3: "Vacationland" by Meg Moore "Meet Me at the Lake" by Carly Fortune "Perfect Madness: Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety"

Why am I on the struggle bus trying to get into Divine Rivals? I didn’t expect to be dragging my feet.

Divine Rivals got better as I went but it also took me a while to get more into it. In the end I didn’t love it was much as I hoped.

Just finished my first two books of the year. Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan and Book 5 of the Irish village murder series, Murder in an Irish Cottage. Both 5 stars from me.

I finished The Romance Dilemma last night. Now I need a new romcom for bedtime tonight. I read The Kiss Quotient over a weekend this summer. It's a super cute fluffy rom com with a neurospicy protagonist.

I think I’m leaning into my tendency for mood reading this year.
I’ve already DNF’d 5 books because I just didn’t feel them right now.
