And because everything is intense out there this summer (weather events, politics, etc), here's some comic relief from the National Park Service. Coming in hot with the dad jokes.

@mesweasley do you have people helping you? If school board races are like anything in my area, you’re going to need a few people to help. You’ll need a candidate FB page, someone to help keep an eye on comments (bc you cannot be online all the time), prob a website, and organizers for block walking and events. Do you have a group already fighting against the book banners/anti CRT/anti trans kids/pro guns in classrooms in your area or is it a new problem? We have groups already in my district and surrounding communities and our reasonable candidates used them heavily during the last election cycle. We block walked, held functions, did booths at neighborhood events, poll greeted, etc. These are often filled with a few hundred or thousand parents who are reasonable and will vote, and you’ll find prob 10-15 workhorses that will actually do stuff. If you don’t have one yet….that’s my first suggestion. Mobilize against the problem and then use them to support your campaign (and the other likeminded candidates.) If you need help, message me! 2 years ago was the "biggest" race in our district and the wackadoo that ran is moving (probably a big reason why she didn't win unfortunately). Prior to that they've been super low key and mostly uncontested. A couple years ago a few parents founded a "citizens for a better X" group. It's small but have a few good hardworking people. Unfortunately we're in a pretty red area so there is a lot of resistance and if I too closely align myself with them it will likely backfire. There are 4 people, including myself, that I am aware of circulating petitions for 2 open seats. Signatures are due Aug 9th, so about a week after that I should know who the actual ballot candidates are. Our local Dem party is "under new management" so to speak, and the new leader has only been in her role a year. Prior leaders basically did nothing because nobody ever won partisan races. They are holding a series of classes on the basics of running for office, which has been helpful. The board member that won last time is part of it, so he's also an invaluable resource. He's offered the template for his website and FB candidate page. I wanted to make sure I had enough signatures before I started creating pages, committees, etc, so I'm about ready to get the ball rolling on that stuff I'll keep your offer in mind, it's all a little overwhelming!

Twitter tells me that Russia might be gearing up for another altercation with the Wa.gner group and that a UPS strike is imminent.

That's just the GQP being the GQP. Does this actually affect the rule? Or would they need the Senate to agree?

This sounds very appealing to me but the one question I need to know, which that article doesn't answer, is whether switched to the SAVE program will fuck with my PSLF progress or if you are ineligible if you are using PSLF.

The book ban lady took her grievances to Nextdoor since I turned off the comment son the FB post. She posted 8 screenshots she considers explicit 🤦♀️ and named me saying I'm a school board candidate and support the school's decision to keep the books on the shelves.
Weirdly the post hasn't shown up in my feed, someone else told me about it and I found it when searching. Fortunately the thread isn't going the way she was hoping it would, only a few comments and it's people agreeing with the school. Hopefully that's a good sign

I'm absolutely sitting on my hands. I need to create a boundry for my personal account I think. I might change my last name or something. It's such a gray area and on the personal side I want to tell her she's a loon You absolutely need a separate account. Depending upon your state, if you get elected any account that conducted official campaign business could be subject to public records laws. This and there are First Amendment concerns with blocking or restricting a public account.

Have you or are you going to watch the movie Sound of Freedom?
My friend watched it and was telling me about it. I can't decide if I should watch or avoid it.

I've read multiple things about how they're messing up the real work, the makers and lead actor spout q.an.on BS and one of the original producers/financial backers was convicted of Medicare fraud

Hopefully her tirade fizzles out.

There are several creators on TikTok who have made a long list of why it’s propaganda. Tim Ballard is really problematic and experts in trafficking have made their concerns about it known, and I’ll believe those experts over some white men who are obviously right wingers. Also, Jim Caviezel is a hardcore trumper, so extra no thanks.
