Starting this thread to tell you all that I finally got to see Hamilton in person on Sunday! The touring cast that we saw was absolutely incredible. I got chills so many times. I have never been a huge Hamilton person, I had heard the soundtrack a couple times and I've seen it on Disney. But truly seeing it live changed it all for me. I will have to be rewatching the Disney recording now haha.
Though confession, Lin Manuel's singing voice is grating to me. The actor who played him in this cast was so much better.

willow, I know so many people on my FB that saw Hamilton this weekend. I was just across the street, seeing my own live theater performance of Paw Patrol Live. Don't be too jelly!

I forget, who was our student loan expert?
My husband got an email (FROM FEBRUARY) that he just looked at that said "Approval of Your Borrower Defense Case Under Exhibit C of the Sweet v. Cardona Settlement"
I know I just saw some things in the news that last couple days about the case being brought to the SC and it standing, so does this mean its really happening for him? It will be life changing for us. Not only did the email say it would do forgiveness, it is also going to repay any payments already made.
I'm agog.

Ready for drama free days. TW for self harm (not my DD) {Spoiler}DD1 (4th grade for all in this story) had a friend, F, confide her that she wanted to kill herself. My DD told another girl at school yesterday, G, that F had said that to DD and G went home from school distraught and G's mom was able to get out of her what happened and G called F's mom, and F's mom is taking the threat seriously since apparently F has been depressed and they are all going through a nasty divorce at the moment. I think I am sad that DD didn't tell us anything about it (F was actually at our house over the weekend, but we aren't clear on when F told DD at this point, or if it was a period of time ago, or yesterday), but also understand at 9 how the heck can she be left with that burden, and poor F that things are so tough for her right now. My heart breaks for F, who is an incredibly sweet girl. We've been really trying to push safe people/grown ups with DD for when her own mood gets bad/overwhelming and she's been really resistant, but we have to keep emphasizing it. 4th grade!!!! #thekidsarenotok

Oh byjove that is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm so glad that information got to the parents and that they are taking it seriously.

Oh byjove, that is so sad and scary. These kids have so much on their shoulders. I’m glad F’s mom learned what was going on and is taking it seriously. And how is your DD doing? That’s much more of an emotional load than any 4th grader should have to process. 😢

We have DD1's IEP eligibility meeting tomorrow. They crammed through all of the additional evaluations in the last week. We shall see how it goes. Her friend is definitely weighing on me and is lending a new gravitas to the meeting, from my POV. I'm not sure we'll get the school psychologist's report in advance though.

So I called my mom to tell her something, and she sounded a little off. Before I could ask what's wrong, she says that she was sent to the ER on Friday afternoon for her heart possibly being in Afib. She went to the medical aid unit and they did an EKG then called the ambulance because her heartrate was jumping from 70-165. At one point her BP was 200/110. But she told my dad not to text us (my sister or I) because she didn't want us to worry, nothing we could do, etc. Why is she like that??

She might tell one of my siblings if she needs them to drive her somewhere but will tell them not to tell anyone else. But shes capable of driving herself usually. So Like she had surgery and didn't tell anyone. I told her being private is ok but at 85 she needs to circle someone in on things and allow them to tell the rest of us.

I’m far away, so I get why she doesn’t tell me until she knows more. But my brother lives 10 minutes from the hospital she goes to and absolutely wants to know. He’d bring my dad food, coffee, and chargers and happily switch off with him to stay with her so that my dad could catch a nap. Instead, they keep radio silence with us until she gets discharged. It’s so frustrating.

klw I'm sorry. I think a lot of moms think they're supposed to take care of their kids, not the other way around, and they want to protect them by not making them worry. It's frustrating as hell, though.

klw, I'm sorry. My uncle was the same way. He just passed away from cancer two weeks ago, and at the beginning, he didn't even want his three kids to know anything was wrong. It put my mom and aunt in a tough spot. (My mom is the favorite aunt and two of the three text her relatively often. The third might, but he's stationed overseas.) I don't understand it.

The school decided DD1 meet IEP criteria for depression/anxiety, in the emotional disability category- which I have feelings about (like all of this being rooted in ADHD), but we have the foot in the door so to speak. It was a 2.5 hour meeting with 10 people, and they almost didn't find her eligible because they weren't sure what programs they had available to help her (!?! um, sounds like a you problem!), but it really came down to all the evaluators being the same as last fall and all of them finding a marked difference in her- basically she is depressed and withdrawn all day at school, with math being the worst. (she has actually been doing better at home recently, and all of the evals happened in the last 2 weeks- they jammed them in- so that was tough to hear). We go back to write the IEP in 2 weeks, and I'm trying to engage a consultant to gain a little more insight into what we can expect, because I get the sense we are in the unusual territory. Like with math, they think it will go better if they can reduce anxiety at school, and I'm like how exactly do you plan to do that?? And they also said everyone is failing math, so her 38% really isn't that bad... yikes.

Also we just got home from DD2's MRI as part of her follow up to the possible seizure, and the radiology report is already available and she has a small cyst, which google tells me should be benign but can be associated with epilepsy, and it has the possibility of growing, so I have a message into the neurologist and low key freaking out in the meantime.

byjove, I'm glad you're getting an IEP. But that's bullshit about math. And if everyone is failing, sounds like something they should do something about.

Hugs, byjove. It’s great that you are getting the IEP. Anxiety has always been DS’s biggest struggle in school. I don’t think it is an uncommon thing to address in an IEP at all, so I’m wtf-ing them a bit for that. Hopefully, you can also get accommodations in place that address the ADHD as well, since it is almost certainly contributing to the anxiety. But there are so many steps they can take to help her learn to reduce anxiety so that she can focus on school and the fun parts of being a kid instead of worrying and being in a fight-or-flight state all the time. DS has some anxiety-related IEP goals. They include CBT related stuff, like willingness to try new academic activities that he has previously refused to try and developing a growth mindset. It’s a focus of the push-in time he gets in the classroom. I know his teachers have used material from the Social Thinking curricula by Michelle Garcia Winner. We’ve also written in mentoring by a trusted adult at school as a service for him. Right now he has lunch weekly with the school’s VP and a couple other nice kids. They play games and talk about silly topics. Next year his current teacher is planning to mentor him after school on a weekly basis. The goal is to make school a friendly, comfortable place. Plus accommodations allowing him to have seating of his choice, frequent breaks, stress reducing activities (he likes to pace, but listening to music or using a fidget would fit the bill too), and the ability to meet with the school counselor as needed. He’s also had additional one-on-one or small group instruction in subject areas that stress him out in the past. Anyway, there should be a lot of things that can be done to help her. I hope you all can figure out a plan to get her feeling happier and more comfortable at school. ❤️

Minerva, I appreciate that perspective! We didn't get into the how or what the actual IEP would include, so hopefully it will make sense and be useful to her. I may reach out for more ideas.
