I had to google because I am curious what might be different and I assume the reason would be that Hawaii apparently allows child support to continue until 23 years of age if the child is in college. That is notably different than most states. Just because KFed moves doesn't mean the jurisdiction for child support will. I'm sure he'll try (and I'm not sure where holds the jurisdiction now) but if it's in CA where Brit is her lawyers would obviously try to keep it that way If this were a "normal" case (I say normal as in not two celebrities), the agency in CA (or wherever) would send a request for Hawaii to register and enforce their CA support order, or they might request that HI register, enforce and have the power to modify the CA order. If they allow registration for modification, it is entirely possible that HI could become the controlling jurisdiction and order. UIFSA (Uniform Interstate Family Support Act) allows for this possibility but in this scenario, given the facts, I would assume as you said, that Britney's attorneys would contest any registration that allows for modification that is inconsistent with CA law. Generally the controlling law is the law of the initial issuing state tribunal, but this can be changed depending on agreement of the parties or court order. I think IF this was the reason KFed wants to move, it would be an uphill battle.

Also hi UIFSA is the bane of my existence and is probably one of the reasons that logic questions are on the LSAT because it can get so damn confusing.

It does seem extremely coincidental that he wants to move there right as they're about to turn 18. That's wild.
Even if it's an uphill battle I can still see him doing it because either way in CA he's gonna get cut off soo , but he has a chance in Hawaii if he moves there

Kfed is a moocher. Every move he makes is lead with money in mind. I don’t believe it’s for his wife he’s moving over there. Please

There are more than a few places in UIFSA that hammer home the point that the "duration" of support for choice of law will be the originating state (here, CA) so I would be interested to hear if he actually wins on that. Or perhaps Britney and her attorneys won't put up a fight and they will just stipulate to it.

I dunno...i don't find it super odd that right wing, white, Christians are moving out of CA. It's pretty En Vogue right now. Hawaii seems better than Idaho like most other conservative Californians.

I think we need to start the June thread and cleanse ourselves of discussion related to geriatric men and their dick abilities. Working on it. Give me a few!

If Britney’s money is going toward that school… that seems newsworthy. Yuck.

holy shit tho. I looked up the school that's suing them and it's complete religious nuttery. So, Kfed and his wife are trash people. "West Valley Christian School is a Bible-believing and Bible-practicing institution which provides an education in a distinctly Christian environment. WVCS believes that its biblical role is to work in conjunction with the home to mold students to be like Jesus Christ. On those occasions in which the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home is counter to, or in opposition to, the biblical lifestyle the school teaches, the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant, or to discontinue enrollment of a student. T his includes, but is not necessarily limited to, living in, condoning, or supporting sexual immorality; practicing homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity; promoting such practices; or otherwise having the inability to support the moral principles of the school." This sounds like the private school I almost sent my kid to. It was a huge bummer to find this out because it’s the only private school around and I had to opt for the crappy public school instead because these Christian assholes can’t just be cool!

It is so so popular right now. I’m not mad about it. They can go hang in Idaho - one less asshole for me to deal with, one less car in traffic!
