For the purposes of this check-in, we will define extended breastfeeding as breastfeeding beyond 1 year. Questions are repeated and suggestions are appreciated! 1. How old is your LO? 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 3. What is your LO's name for nursing? 4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? Pregnant & BFing Moms: How are you doing this week? Any issues with supply, pain, aversion? Questions for other moms? Tandem Nursing Moms: How are you doing this week? Any current challenges? Questions for other moms? Non-BFing question of the week: A silly one-- would you rather find five dollars on the ground or find all of your missing socks?

1. How old is your LO? 2 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? Trying to keep it to 3. DS2 had been nursing on wakeup and again before I left for work, but I'm trying to keep it to just one or the other. 3. What is your LO's name for nursing? "Boobies"/"Bobbies" 4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? It was 2 years for both. With DS1 I wanted to let him self-wean because he was SO attached to nursing (which I didn't quite do, but it didn't take too much pressure to finally get him to stop). With DS2 I think I will be a little more proactive about gradually dropping sessions, now that we're at 2.
Non-BFing question of the week: A silly one-- would you rather find five dollars on the ground or find all of your missing socks? Find all missing socks! But they couldn't just appear- I would need a list of what location each was in. Where the hell do they go?!

1. How old is your LO? Just turned 1 last week!
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? This really depends. I'm home for the summer so we NOD, but it's usually 2-4 times a day. Morning, before nap, before bed always. Sometimes random times during the day.
3. What is your LO's name for nursing? Nothing ATM. I've been trying to get him to sign milk for almost 6 months and nothing. He just climbs into my lap and assumes the position.
4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? B is my 2nd, and my goals were the same for both. Make it to one year and let them self wean. DS1 nursed until he was 25 months old. I was pregnant with B at the time so I kind of pushed it along. I'll let B self wean, but I doubt he will get to 2 yrs. he's not nearly as attached as DS1 was.
Non-BFing question of the week: A silly one-- would you rather find five dollars on the ground or find all of your missing socks? I almost never wear socks, unless I'm working out. So I'd rather find $5.

1. How old is your LO? 3.5 years
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? We were down to 1 but it's now up to 2-3.
3. What is your LO's name for nursing? Nushing.
4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? I had no real goal...I've always just sort of let her lead. I'll do the same with #2. I'm happy to let them both go as long as they like. They'll give it up when they're ready.
Pregnant & BFing Moms: How are you doing this week? Any issues with supply, pain, aversion? Questions for other moms? Oh the pain! But I don't mind so much. I know when the nausea gets worse I might start to feel differently.
Non-BFing question of the week: A silly one-- would you rather find five dollars on the ground or find all of your missing socks? Definitely the socks. With all those socks I would never have to buy socks again. Ever.

My original goal was one then two years. - she used to sign milk but now she makes a little motion at my chest. I call it milkies .. no clue why I do that lol - socks socks socks!

Hi, it's been a while. Sorry.
1. How old is your LO? 14 months
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 10ish. We've officially night weaned, so her bedtime session has changed some. She nurses longer, but doesn't fall asleep nursing anymore!
3. What is your LO's name for nursing? She doesn't call it anything yet. We're working on signing, but I gave up for a couple months and just started trying again recently, so no luck yet. She usually just pulls at my collar.
4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? I'm OADNBC. 😞 But my current goal is too get through this winter. After that we'll see where we stand.

1. How old is your LO? - 2.33 year 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? - 3-4x 3. What is your LO's name for nursing? - he recently switched to "your milk" as in "I want your milk." I think he says "milk from momma" or just "milk" to other people. 4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? - probably the same self weaning goal. Non-BFing question of the week: A silly one-- would you rather find five dollars on the ground or find all of your missing socks?

1. 19.5 months 2. We are back up to frequent nursing. When we are together 7-8x per 24 hour period. 3. Sometimes she'll ask for milk. She mostly says boob and starts shoving her arm down my shirt. She'll ask for the "other side" when one boob is getting too slow. 4. I made it to 2 with DD1. That was my goal for DD2. It looks like we'll make it. She has food allergies and the supplemental milk is important to her restricted diet. I'm trying to decide how long I am willing to go.
Bonus: $5 for sure. Team socks only when absolutely necessary.

1. How old is your LO? 20 months tomorrow 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? Usually 2-3, this last week he's been sick and nursing like a newborn again 3. What is your LO's name for nursing? He mostly just bashes me in the chest, lol. I refer to it as momma's milk or milk with momma and he knows what that refers to. 4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? We are OAD but I'll answer for us, my goal was one year, then 18 months, now I'll say I'd like to make it to two years and if he doesn't self-wean by then we will carry on until he does. Non-BFing question of the week: A silly one-- would you rather find five dollars on the ground or find all of your missing socks? 5 bucks please! I found a $20 on my street a few weeks ago.

1. How old is your LO? 18 months 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 2-3 3. What is your LO's name for nursing? he signs for milk 4. Will your BFing goal be the same for any future children (or if you're extended BFing your 2nd+, did your goal change?)? My goal for this one is generally to let him self-wean, although I'm not sure if I'll want to go much past 2 at this point. I would have the same goal for future children.
Bonus: definitely the $$$! Also not big on socks, although I love my slippers!

Hi, I'm from J15. Can I join here??
1. Just turned two.
2. Usually just before bed now.
3. "Alia eat a boobie" <-- her words, not mine. Or, she'll pull at by shirt. 4. NA - one and done here.
Questions for other moms? QUESTION:
Could this be a sign that LO is trying to wean on her own: When we cuddle before bed lately, she'll insist that my boob is out, but then she will whine that she doesn't want it, but won't "let" me put it away. Then act like she wants it... then whines that she doesn't want it... over and over until she "gives in to herself" and starts nursing. I don't know what to make of it!
Non-BFing question of the week: $5, please. Socks: I've moved on. I'm over you now.

kellyinhb, i wonder if she wants to nurse, but is frustrated that maybe your supply is less than it once was? i'm usually pretty empty by the bedtime nursing session these days (DS2 nurses after i get home from work, so the bedtime session is only a couple of hours later). i would set a limit- like, she has until you count to 10 or 20 to decide whether or not she wants to nurse, and then boobie gets put away for the night.

Maybe she's overtired too and that's how she's expressing it?
ETA: meaning when my dd is ready for bed she's kind of whiney and will say she doesn't want to give a goodnight kiss then she does etc

I might think the supply thing, except she does the whole "I want it... I no want it.... I want it" whining thing before she ever even latches. Then when she finally does latch, she goes to town and a wave of calm overcomes us both (thank you, oxytocin). Maybe it's just a "toddlers are weird" thing.
I like the setting a limit and counting to 10 idea. I will try that.

Yep! This makes perfect sense.
Kind of like....
LO: I want crackers. I want crackers. Me: puts crackers on a plate. Cuts some cheese to go with it for a nice snack. Puts plate in front of LO. LO: No crackers! No crackers! :whine: No want crackers!! :throws crackers:
I am probably overthinking it, and she's just being a two year-old.

Yeah my DD (19 months) is really into saying no, no, no she doesn't want something, then she does... it's an interesting age because they have strong feelings but can't express themselves in the best way yet.

kellyinhb My DD did the same thing around the same age. I think it was just an exerting her own independence at night time kind of thing. I would tell her that if she wanted to nurse she had to do it "now" because nushes (what she calls them) are going to sleep, and if she wanted to try to sleep without nursing that was ok too. She would always choose to nurse but after that I started asking her if she wanted to first rather than just assuming that she did. Giving her the choice (for me) was something that worked and it gave her a sense of control over the process. After that I only nursed her when she specifically asked rather than just assuming she wanted to at the times she would normally nurse (if that makes sense?).

sammysam, that makes a lot of sense re: exerting her own independence and letting her "control" some of the process.
