I feel like they decided on one of the members to not expel to make it look less pathetic. It isn't working.

She’s more palatable to the right. Rep Jones called them all out and refused to play their game. And he very much pointed out their racist behavior I hope they reappoint him.

This is in no way taking away from the work Ms Johnson has done and the trauma she lives with every day. She is a gun violence survivor and her experience and her work are important.
It's telling that a young man who recounted losing NUMEROUS loved ones to gun violence, who is 10 times more likely, as a young Black man, to die by gun violence than his white female colleague, was expelled for raising his voice. And she was not. Fuck all of that to hell and back again.

A child from DS's school died yesterday when they found a gun at home and accidentally shot themselves. DS didn't know them, but it's just all too much. They were in the fifth grade. I don't want to have to talk to my fourth grader about someone dying from being shot. No one should have to talk to their kids about something like that.
Fuck guns.

Oh God sewf that's awful. <3 They are just babies. But then, we have people in government asking teenage protesters what kind of guns they want to be killed with. So we know that side of the aisle cares less than zero percent.

Just FYI C-span is showing the TN legislature with the TN 3 One dude just stood up and suggested a net over the school and doing something about the big windows and station a homeland security officer at them. (ETA its rep Lamberth)
I mean................................ ITS THE FUCKING GUNS Do they plan to support a tax increase to hire enough homeland security officers to the 90,000+ public schools in the country? (Rhetorical question). I fucking hate this country so much. An acquaintance that moved to ID a few years ago shared something on FB about encouraging the school district to hire a resource officer for every school to protect our children and I rolled my eyes so hard. School funding is scarce everywhere so where would that funding come from and also you chose to move to a gun loving state from CA….

The headline vastly oversimplified the actual regulation 'The rules would narrow when discrimination of trans athletes would be permitted. But they also would offer guidelines for when schools could bar their participation. Under the proposal, schools would need to consider a range of factors before imposing a ban on trans athletes and would need to justify it based on educational grounds, such as the need for fairness. So, for instance, a school district could justify a ban on transgender athletes on their competitive high school track and field team, whereas a district would have a harder time making that case for an intramural middle school kickball squad. The long-awaited proposal, which is subject to public comment, puts forth a framework for how schools can comply with Title IX, the 50-year-old federal law that bars schools from discriminating on the basis of sex. It would apply to all public K-12 schools, as well as colleges and universities that receive federal funding. Reaction was mixed. Transgender rights activists said the proposal provided a welcome set of protections for trans students but also worried the regulations could offer a road map for those who want to discriminate. “The proposed rule helps clarify that these blanket bans on transgender athletes are in violation of Title IX and is a really positive development,” said Scott Skinner-Thompson, a supporter of transgender rights and associate professor at the University of Colorado Law School. But he said the provisions allowing for discrimination were “deeply troubling.” The proposal is subject to the standard public comment period so I would encourage everyone to voice their concerns
