If anyone is looking for a really funny/light romance, The Bodyguard by Catherine Center was hysterical. Like actually laughing out loud. I wish I could read it again for the first time. Like this would have been peak Sandra Bullock rom com. A delight.

babybean I think it depends on what the charges are. If they are mostly financial related to the hush money stuff, it might just be fines and the conviction, if he is convicted. The other crimes he's being investigated for in other jurisdictions likely have more risk of jail time, but we'll see. It is hard to tell at this point.

They're predictable but always leave me feeling warm and fuzzy and happy.

What would you recommend next? Happiness For Beginners is being turned into a Netflix movie. I really enjoyed that one. What To Save In A Fire and Everybody's Beautiful were also great!

NGL, I wish the indictment had come 24 hours earlier bc now the House and Senate are on recess and won't have to face the Capitol Hill press corps for 2+ weeks

I did read somewhere (I think an ig account) that even if he’s convicted though he can still run and be president as long as the conviction isn’t for treason. So I feel like if that is true, unless he’s in jail it’s almost pointless other than setting precedent because his supporters are too dumb to see what he truly is and will continue to support him.

It is correct that only a few crimes can bar you from running for president. He can even run for president from jail if he ends up there. I am not ready to say it is pointless though.

The Daily made a good point that, with 34 counts, there almost has to be more than the elections violations

I will DNF a book so fast for production or narration choices. Last month, I started listening to Malcolm Gladwell's newest book and had to stop bc of the background tracks.

Also there's a Vox explainer on the prison thing too:

And if that's TL/DR, here's the crux:
"From a legal perspective, an indictment doesn’t matter in the slightest for Trump’s presidential campaign. As Derek Muller, a professor at the University of Iowa School of Law, told Vox, “there’s nothing in the Constitution that would disqualify him for [being indicted] and as a result states have no power to exclude from the ballot [on] that basis or make life more difficult for him if he wants to be on a ballot.” After all, Trump meets all the qualifications that the Constitution requires for the presidency. He is over 35, a natural-born citizen, and he has not twice been elected president per the added restriction of the 22nd Amendment."

Can he hold office though if he’s in jail? I mean most likely not but there is literally no precedent for any of this given the very basic qualifications and requirements to run for and become president, so everyone is sort of going in blind here.

I've been listening to a lot of psychological/domestic thrillers lately and needed a palate cleanser and this sounds perfect! I started it a few minutes ago I didn't do audio, so can't promise on the narrator, but fx they do ok with it! I'm super picky about narrators, but this one is ok. I'm not very far into it, but I'm really liking it so far. I love a book that literally makes me laugh out loud. If you haven't read any of Abby Jiminez's books, definitely read hers. She's hilarious! She owns Nadia Cakes and one of her cakes went viral. It was a geode cake that the internet said looked like a vagina, so she called it a vageode cake lol.

The amount of credit the men who wrote the constitution gave voters is nutty. Although they were white men and typically white men think white men are the best.

I don't think they ever anticipated "gentlemen's agreements" meaning so little to some in the future. It's insane what they relied on social norms to prop up and hold together.
