We took the kids to the children’s museum today. It was my 2YO’s first time and he wore his mask the whole time like a champ. ✌🏻

addymac ugh I hope you feel better quickly. I experienced the same thing with URIs after Covid. (The second time I got Covid, the first time weveryone was still masking and we had zero “regular” colds last year) I had 2 URIs pretty shortly after my 2nd Covid in August and coughed up the thickest grossest stuff ever for weeks each time. We’ve had a couple more colds recently and for me they are more just regular sinus headache and malaise but haven’t gotten worse down into my lungs like the earlier ones did. Hopefully you just need a bit more time to go by and it won’t be bad like this each time 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I hope you feel better soon addymac. I’m prone to chest colds and bronchitis, and Breathe Easy tea by Traditional Medicinals is my go to remedy.

My toddler's daycare is closed today and tomorrow bc of a Covid outbreak. He isn't sick and he's tested negative twice, so fx. But it's hard to believe that I had a 3yo when Covid first hit. Now I have a different 3yo and we're still doing this

dc2londonSharing food and drinks would be my guess. Plus some kid with mono probably put their mouth all over a water fountain.

That's wild to me bc the schools I've taught in or had kids attend are very strict that students may not ever share food or drinks. Although my niece's school is effing weird so...

She tested positive for Covid in mid-September and then mono 12/7 followed by Covid AGAIN on 12/12. I was reading there is some correlation between Covid and Epstein Barr virus. Even the school nurse said she hadn't seen a case of mono in the schools in a few years so it seems interesting to me to hear it coming up again, especially in very young kids because doesn't it usually effect kids in the teen years?

I think it can happen to any age (I had it when I was 24 and thought I'd never get out of bed again) but teens and college is most common because everyone is kissing each other and sharing booze and drugs etc.

I got mono in Dec 2019 and got it from my son, which we only confirmed after his best friend tested for it. They were 1st graders and swear they never shared food or drink, but 7 year olds so who knows.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a link with COVID and mono.

I ended up feeling so awful in mid-January and was tested for mono but was negative for acute infection. They did an antibody test like 10 days later which was positive and I read something like 90% of people over 40 had contracted it at some point in their life so I guess I had it along the way but don't remember. Sorry to turn this into the mono thread!

Our doctor's office, part of a huge company with tons of locations, is moving to optional masks for staff as of Monday. I'm bummed. I'll continue to mask.

I don't know what's going on with mono right now, but my daughter has some illness that has yet to be diagnosed. When we were at the doctor they told me the top three things they're seeing in kids are strep, flu and mono. She was negative for everything, but we're supposed to go back to retest for mono this weekend if she isn't better (we were told there are a lot of false negatives if you test prior to ten days from symptom onset).

It was a long time ago now, but when I was in 8th grade I missed 2 weeks of school and it would have been 3-4 if not for the holiday break, but I was so sick and they had no idea what it was. They took so much blood, they thought for sure mono (it wasn't), tested negative for everything. I would sleep 23 hours a day. I can't believe I wasn't in the hospital. And then I got better. Still no idea what it was.
I did get mono in college. I will never forget the student health doctor saying she doubted it was mono but tested anyway, and came back into the room laughing saying you'll never believe it but it's positive. Aye. Mono was tough. /anecdote

I have the mood/fatigue/brain fog symptoms, but I also had that prior to covid, post-DS2. I think it's worse now? But I don't know that I could say it definitively and MH would just tell my I'm paranoid.

So. I hope more people will get on board and start pushing for proper air filtration in public buildings. Because this is...not good.

And my new boss asked me why I'm still wearing a mask. I said because I haven't had COVID yet that I know of and I'm trying to keep it that way as long as possible. She was like "oh wow, good for you" 🙄. I know she wishes I didn't wear it though, I think because she can't really read my facial expressions. Studies like the above are why I'm trying to go as long as possible before I get it.

As someone who also works in retail, it's a very good thing customers can't see my facial expressions most of the time. I am so glad I don't have to do a customer service smile anymore.

I’ve been meaning to jump into this board for a while. Need a place to get my politics angst out.
Posting here. Just feeling a bit mad that after three years of trying to keep my grandparents healthy, my Grandma falls and then catches Covid in the hospital. Seems unfair.

kittyriot ugh I'm so sorry. Elder falls are already stressful enough without the hospital making it worse!

She passed Feb 27. Funeral was March. So just feeling extremely fresh about the impacts of Covid on vulnerable communities, three years later. Never thought after keeping her safe this long, that this would be the end.

I'm still having to send copies of her death certificate everywhere. And seeing COVID listed on there fuels my fire every bleeping time.
