cythe, actually love both your abroad options! NZ is a beautiful and peaceful place. I lived there for a year too long ago. Did not know the US had a base there. Is it in the north island or south? With a kid in tow, this would be a less stressful option due to lack of a language barrier. Japan is so awesome. I also worked there for a whole summer and loved it.- not the work, the ridiculous hours sucked but still managed to spend an hour or 2 after work exploring before the last train. 😂 Language barrier will be a challenge there though. I had a translater practically leeched to me but shook her off when I went exploring at night. 😛 I have a travel bug though and don't mind living anywhere 😂. Anyways I'm totally excited for you!

The fabric I got from joanns looks much better than I expected so really happy. They're getting laundered now and I'm taking a short break before I resume cutting out the battings for bubs Topponcino. Really looking forward to keeping busy and productive.

I would just lay there and watch tv/movies. You are an ambitious sick person with the gardening you were doing. ETA when I was sick last month I was really sick for 4 days and watched 3 seasons of the show Younger on Hulu. It was actually really nice looking back on it. I just started watching Younger last night when I couldn't sleep. I binged Younger, so hard! Im caught up now and sad.Loved it!

I will have to look into it... we are having tv issues so right now. A slightly above basic cable package is all I have at the moment. Masterchef is on my viewing agenda tonight.

2 strangers touched my belly this week and there was nothing I could do so I just let it happen, both guessed I was having a boy .. but most people ask me if I'm having another girl. So it's pretty 50/50 .. when I was pregnant with DD everyone said girl. This time it's split

cythe I totally think you should do an international assignment! It is such an amazing opportunity and you would be able to travel to so many cool places/experience really neat new things with a little kid - and you wouldn't need to worry about school stuff with your kid for traveling. I am so, so happy we decided to take the plunge and move overseas at this stage in our life. Once you have kids in school in the U.S., I think it's harder/scarier to think about moving the kids overseas. NZ and Japan are both awesome. I would live in either at the drop of a hat. I know with Japan people worry about North Korea, but sad to say - they've already tested an ICBM and wil probably have the capability to send a nuke to the U.S. in about a year anyways...they are always threatening to nuke the U.S. off the face of the earth...I don't think that will happen. I guess what I am trying to say is that the threat from NK wouldn't really be a ton more risky if you were in Japan. I would move to Japan in a heartbeat - no hesitation. Japan is an amazing, amazing place. It's clean, organized, beautiful, polite, they are hard-working...I'm a big fan. Probably why I have so many Japanese friends here in SEA. The Kiwis are equally awesome, and the scenery in NZ is to die for. Plus English. Just urging you to keep an open mind - opportunities like this can be fantastic - esp at this stage in our lives. ETA: How long will your assignment last overseas? I can tell you that 2-3 years goes by in a blink. I know you realize that with moving a lot...but I think it goes even faster when overseas. Just wanted to note that it is only temporary....you'd be back in the states before you know it!

We had a follow up appointment with the ENT to check DS's ears. They were all clear and he doesn't recommend doing anything right now, so that's good. His speech is improving every day it feels like. Next week we have the follow up with the audiologist, and I imagine it'll be the same.
He's actually started labeling body parts when we point to them. When we point to his belly and ask what it is he's been saying, "baby". 😍

duskymonkey Taitai we would both love to live abroad, the real issues at this point is that importing our cats is going to cost about $6,000 (about 2k each), and that's even with sending one of our cats to live with my mom. The thought it all is anxiety inducing! @dusky I don't know for sure where the bases are, but I believe there are actually 4 of them! I don't think they're complete US bases, as the job he'd be doing in NZ is more multi country/co-op. He would be deploying to Antarctica! Taitai our stay over there would be 3 years, unless he decides to stay on for another tour.

I know that Japan is super organized with their pet import process, so if you decide to go through with it - know that your cats will be treated really well! We were thinking of moving to Tokyo before we moved to Southeast Asia, so we did a ton of research for importing our dog. Whatever you decide will be the right one for you guys! If you can swing overseas though - I highly recommend it. It's such a rewarding experience that will expand your family's horizons, and one that not everyone has the opportunity to take advantage of.

Taitai, I haven't been back to Japan in over 10 yrs, do they still smoke like chimneys there? anyways Soul sisters! I would move to either place in a heartbeat! And both times had the opportunity but will spare y'all the soap opera.

duskymonkey Yes - the chain smoking in Japan continues! I go there at least 2-3 times a year for business, and I am always surprised by how many of them smoke (along with the salary men nightly binge drinking culture). However - I do appreciate that they are strict on designated smoking areas, and I never notice people smoking near restaurants or in crowded public places. The smokers are always off in their own gross little room or somewhere out of sight....unlike Eastern Europe where it's hard to enjoy a meal at an outdoor cafe without getting smoke blown in your face every 2 seconds....Grrrrrrrrrr. End Rant 😁
