C's new favorite thing to do is grab my hands and walk around the house. Yesterday we walked through my bedroom and bathroom then went into his bathroom where he grabbed a bath toy off the tub ledge, then back into his room where he walked towards the crib. I laid him down and he just chilled there playing with his toy. Kid knows what he wants. I think I have the most immobile baby of all time. She likes to stand and she like to squirm into sitting up from lying down, but that's about it. Just about any toy can be obtained with enough butt scooting, but I'm so ready for her to crawl. Or anything at this point. I know it's hard not to compare but all babies are so different and yours is completely normal too. I've heard, and it seems to make sense, babies are either learning gross motor skills or cognitive skills. If they are strong in one they are often 'weaker' in the other. Now at this age cognitive can be hard to appreciate when we tend to focus on gross motor skills, but she is just absorbing her world and figuring out how it works. She is going to take you by storm one day very soon. Also as the mom of a kid who is looking to walk early and who laughed at me when I told him 'no-no' today for the 5000th time I envy your sit and observe baby . And I reserve the word no for big things like electrical outlets and the old painful dog, he really likes things that are off limits.

It's definitely hard to not compare, especially on my other board when I felt like some people liked to brag about certain milestones. But I would always follow up those posts with my reality posts. Suzie can already write her name. Well, M excels at throwing her paci across the room. I remember you mentioning this before!! Thankfully, I've never gotten the impression that there's anyone here doing anything other than sharing their baby's milestones. But on FB? Lord. I've unfollowed many people in the last 9 months. Reason #8945631234 I'm not on FB.

sophiegrace C has always loved standing but this "walking" thing has just blown up in the last couple weeks. He's been a very lazy baby otherwise. He hardly moves when sitting or laying down. It's definitely both interesting and a little bit stressful being able to see what other babies the same age do. So hard not to compare.

Taco Bell would go great with my dream mojito I'm not a fan of mojitos. Maybe there's been too much mint in all the ones I've had. I usually don't care for them in restaurants or bars for that reason. But, my H has a short attention span so the mint never gets muddled enough for it to taste overwhelming. And he uses Splenda instead of simple syrup so it's not really really sweet. I should really stop calling it a mojito. It's more of a no jito

I think when we dated was the first time I've ever had one, and I don't think I've had one since we broke up, come to think of it. So that was...lord, 9 years ago? That makes me feel old. I should go out and get a mojito, just for grins.

I've definitely seen this in action among my own children and my friends' babies. Also, I always heard this anecdotally but our speech therapist and pediatrician confirmed it...girls tend to develop language earlier than boys, and boys tend to develop physical skills (most typically gross motor) earlier than girls. It's really interesting but I've experienced that with my own two.

K likes to bite my boob and laugh at me when I tell her no. The only thing that works is to put my boob away and put her on the floor. Then she gets upset. I had to repeat 5x today during our lunchtime session before she finally stopped biting and just nursed.
I observe my kids physical milestones (mostly the pulling up and free standing, ok anything to do with mobility) with a mixture of pride and horror. Just me?

sophiegrace what's the best thing to eat after a workout? And by workout I mean walk 2 miles. But it was against the wind and uphill so I'm actually sweating. And I'm also famished and need something to hold me over until I eat dinner.

No to mojitos. They taste like toothpaste water that you spit out.
Re: milestones. Even this second time around I quietly observe and compare even though I told myself I'd be more breezy. J is in the beginning of the pack but no where near standing or walking. He does crawl and log roll like nothing I've ever seen. I also enjoy comparing my two boys. At this age (9 months) B was not crawling but could sit really well unassisted, stand up while holding on to something, and get from laying down to sitting up by himself. J can sit unassisted but sometimes still falls, crawls, but cannot get into a sitting position on his own. B had 6 teeth by now whereas J is working on cutting his 4th. Crazy yet interesting to see.
Edited typos

Edited typos M used to get from a tummy position to a sitting position through the middle splits. It would crack us up. I was for sure she'd be a dancer or gymnast.

Re: milestones I definitely compare my two kids because it's awesome to see how completely different they are; J is consistently two months ahead in everything so far, I'm hoping this pattern stays the same for STTN and weaning.
It's one thing to compare your own kids but if a person is bragging that their kid sat up/crawled/rolled over before anyone else, get a new hobby. Boasting is never cool, Clifford's Manners says so 😉

And I'm also famished and need something to hold me over until I eat dinner. Carbs and protein to help restore glycogen and promote rebuilding in your muscles. The easiest way for me to do this was with a protein smoothie with banana (almond milk, vanilla whey, frozen banana). I haven't done it since not being able to have whey and I've suffered. -Toast with PB (or even a PB&J) -Chocolate milk is gaining a huge cult following lately -Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with your choice of fruit and/or granola -any protein bar (I'm loving Lenny and Larry's protein cookies) -Tuna/chicken salad on crackers -Cheese, nuts, and fruit WATER!!! so much water to rehydrate thirsty muscles. Especially in this heat.

I'll drink all the mojitos. I love them.
DS1 was army crawling at 6 months, pulling up on things at 8 months and walking at 10 months. He also didn't start talking until after he turned 2. I definitely struggled with the not talking thing, I still do, honestly. It's hard not to compare.
So far DS2 has been a couple months behind DS1. He'll be 8 months tomorrow and started army crawling last week.

My friend was literally having a conversation with her daughter. I was in awe. And also completely jealous. I get it. It's awful. Meanwhile, B just turned 2 and still isn't talking. Back to EI we go....

DS has come a long way in the last year, but I think he would be more caught up if we had done EI.

As I've shared previously, B was a late talker, and we did speech therapy for almost 2 years. There were times I felt like he would never catch up, and because he's big for his age, strangers sometimes based their expectations of him on his size (assuming he was older); I got some obnoxious comments about his abilities (or lack thereof). Now at 3.5, he's completely caught up, maybe even ahead, and does. not. stop. It's mostly great. Occasionally I miss the quiet, though eta: waitwhat all this goes for you, too. It's so normal for boys to be behind the curve in speech/language skills. Hugs.

flamingo, thank you! He's just shy of 3.5 but he's come a long way in the last year. He starts preschool in September so I'm hoping that'll help as well.
