I couldn't watch the debate last night, I had a thing, but from clips I saw I'm not sure what the national political press watched

PA 12 is my new district and it's absurd. I told Mh that the GOP must have rounded up whoever they could find named Mike Doyle just to sow chaos. ETA LOL this follow up tweet is funny

We experienced a lockdown for the first time yesterday. There was a shooting downtown and the suspect(s) were seen in a park near M's school. It didn't last long and he didn't seem freaked out — but I was. And they're starting ALICE drills next week. This shouldn't be their normal.

Oh I would raise hell if my district tried ALICE I've already been a pain in the teacher's side bc she uses no recess as a consequence, but I'm glad to hear you say this. Because I don't like it. They sent home an opt out form and I might just keep him home from school that day.

I've been seeing reports of armed men standing around by ballot drop boxes and of people photographing people as they go in to vote We have a lot of dirt bags in this country I am in AZ and my kids go to a preschool that shares a campus with a church. They are using the church as a polling location and I saw the workers setting up today. It is in the same part of the building as the school. I am not okay with this. Even in a normal political climate, it is a lot of additional public traffic in and out of that building. I am not usually paranoid about things like that, but this school is less locked down than our last one, and with the election shenanigans, I am not happy.

One of the orgs I've been texting with 2x/day insists that you get trained on every single shift, even if you just texted on that exact script 2 hours earlier and boy, howdy does their trainer like to hear themselves talk.
This stuff is part of my literal job. Just let me help you without eating up 30 minutes of extra time.

IDK why but my kids have school on E Day for the first time ever and I really don't like it. And here , firearms are prohibited at polling places.

Almost all the voting happens in churches schools city hall and firestations around here. Do they use different places in other states? Most of the trouble so far in az has been in ballot drop box locations that are deemed by the wacky people as unattended and could be "stuffed" by "mules". I dont think they are going to cause troubles in a preschool or elementary cause they want to do political theater and the optics of doing crazy shit at a school will cause lockdown vibes that wont look right even to their crazy supporters

Firearms are not allowed within 75 ft of az polling locations. That may be why they are doing intimidation tactics with firearms outside of "unattended" drop boxes but most are still hanging out pretty far away from the boxes themselves.

At least IME.

But it's a thing parents have had to get used to. Never have we ever had election day off of school. Always have school with all those people in and out. And can't lock all the doors to the rest of the school due to fire exits. They put up signs and Ive seen principal, asst and often other staff stand on other sides of doors telling peopleto use other exits that they can't walk thru campus where the kids are.

For sure! Our schools are typically closed for election day to allow for school use.

Besides school board elections they pulled voting booths out of our schools back in the late 90s. It wasn’t because of a safety issue, people would complain about parking.

It also helps improve parent participation because they can vote and meet the teacher with one stop.

Ya schools here are closed on election day and I am blown away that they aren't elsewhere, ETA schools are used for voting here.
Everything just feels so impossible being a parent with kids in school. The lockdowns and incidents near schools just this week here in my city alone make me want to retreat inside with my kiddo.

My kids' school is used as a polling place and the district does a digital learning day for that reason. It can be a pain for parents, but I would 100% rather not have them in the building with randos.
