Well, I learned from TikTok that the queen’s coffin is lined with lead to help preserve the body. It weighs about 500 lbs and now I feel even more sorry for the pall bearers.

There’s a tiktoker I found who has a book coming out called mortal monarchs and it sounds like it’s all about the deaths, burials, etc of the old monarchs of England. I find her tiktoks pretty interesting. She’s gotten a huge influx of followers in the last couple of weeks since the queens passing seemingly through no intention on her part since this book was in the works for ages. But people are a lot more interested now haha |

So, my mom and sister moved a 7 hour drive away. (Flights are not an option and would add $1k and 10hrs…yay rural to rural CA)We could do it more often, but wont be going unless it’s planned or an emergency.
I love her, love my sister and my niece and nephew, but I still won’t be for any holidays.
My kids also haven’t seen their problematic grandpa, my dad, in two years and he lives 1.5 hrs away.
I wouldn’t be shocked if H&M don’t go back until Charles dies and then it will be only out of obligation.

It will be interesting to see how The Crown portrays the Chuck/Diana/Camilla drama. I remember it all over the tabloids growing up. I don’t really ever remember the fairy tale portrayal- just the fall out in real time. I'm going to be on a plane this day so I will be downloading aaaaaallllll the episodes before we go to the airport! |

I have been reading 17 Carnations (I think swellist suggested it?) and it sent me down a rabbit hole about prior generations of the royal family. Apparently the tradition of sealing Royal Family wills only dates to 1910, when Prince Francis bequeathed a fortune in emeralds to his mistress. The future Queen Mary managed to get the will sealed to prevent this becoming known/the emeralds leaving the family. I can’t remember if we had discussed this background before. Like do we really think Harry plans to "pop over" every few weeks? His family and life is in California. Eh, he’s a rich dude and they have help. I’m sure he can and will. Yeah, to me, this isn't strange. There are plenty of working professionals with young families who do international travel every few weeks who have far less money and resources than H and M. He can even bring them over with him whenever they want. |

I think they're well off but not like billionaire "we have 24/7 trained former military security guards" rich. They are among the most recognizable faces in the UK. It's not safe for them to be there for frequent trips unless they are staying on palace grounds like Frog Cott at Windsor, and I don't know how comfortable they are with that, especially with the Waleses living at Windsor now. Things were obviously tense during the death/funeral stuff and I don't know what is there for him right now. It's probably going to be worse when his memoir comes out, tbh. |

I think they have comparable security to other celebs in gated communities in Montecito, SB, Calabasas, etc. But I don't know if their private security is allowed to carry on British soil, for instance. The BRF security is official and Kate always has an RPO even when she goes food shopping. The only reason H&M were covered during the Windsor walkabout and official funeral activities were because everyone else there had RPOs plus police. |
