My therapist and I came up with a plan to hopefully help lessen my anxiety because it is at an absolutely untenable place lately where I can't function well, so as of this past weekend, I've started to just read the news I want to read in the morning and then nothing else the rest of the day. It has been difficult at first but it is getting easier, and I need it because I'm an information sponge and became addicted to refreshing news pages. So of course something HUGE like this happens and I'm behind. And I miss checking in here but for now, this will have to do. I feel very cynical about the chances that this does anything significant to Trump but I hope I'm very wrong. I think it might mean he can't run for office. I don't think there will ever be any consequences beyond that. Rich, white, powerful, etc. No, he could run for president while actually in jail. There's no law against it.

This is a great plan and I have found that my mental health/anxiety improves greatly when I am not saturating myself in news constantly. I do sometimes let the pendulum swing too far to the opposite side and sometimes know nothing of what's going on.
Also +1 to being cynical this does anything to Trump

This place is good for my health. willow said "lessen my anxiety," and I realized I hadn't taken my Lexapro today. I just remembered my adderall.

Am I the only one that is still shocked that T is still alive? I gave him like 6 months post office. I still don’t think he’ll make it to 2024. I used to think this as well. I mean he is not exactly a picture of health. I have changed my mind though and think he will live forever.

willow, I also had to check out when my marriage was ending and during the separation. I just couldn’t handle it. I’m sorry you’re having a difficult time right now. Sending you love.

Knowing how super super secret some of the documents are, I'm hoping they reveal evidence of further crimes to pile on top of whatever crimes he did with the documents by hiding them

Going down for stolen documents is right up there with Capone going down for tax fraud. I love to see it

My overall vibe is that Garland and the DOJ know the political climate they are operating in and wouldn't go out on a huge ledge without their shit being double-tight. I also am skeptical that they'd do an unannounced search of his safe in his office based solely on documents they already knew he had in a room in the basement. Based on the caution they've exhibited before, I feel like there has to be some other impetus for this step that rises to some threshold of seriousness for them.
What we don't know is what that impetus is. But I think DOJ is much better situated by not commenting/leaking and letting it eventually show up in court filings. It's the right way to go about it even though I'm nosy AF. The downside to that is the GOP has time to spin whatever bullshit they want out of thin air - but honestly they'd just do that anyway.

I'm here. I guess I'm a tiny bit surprised by the coordinated and full throated response by GOP leadership and media, without having any idea what the DOJ was looking for. They seem really worried and trying to discredit it and I guess a part of me thought they might take this opportunity to distance themselves from T a bit - that was probably naive of me. It feels like they all had the "What to do when Trump gets arrested" Plan and just activated it. Hopefully it's just a plan to align messaging for political gain and not pressing the "ignite Civil War" button.

I'm hours behind because I was being a good mom! 😭🤣 I got into bed and saw I headline and bolted here. Someone bat signal me when this shit does down!! Being a good mom is overrated. I tell H that when I'm ignoring them for news. I tell him I'm watching history firsthand so I can properly regurgitate it to them 🤣

I mean, people have won their elections from a prison cell before.. dunno if that changes for presidents tho. Also I feel the bad news check out thing. It’s why I say there should be a weekly thread for good news and one for bad news.. we had one once. It clearly is well down the pages, because good news is so very rare for us Chicken Littles.

It makes me wonder if certain hosts know what might be uncovered and are discrediting to try save themselves from public scrutiny as well. But then again 1/6 messages from them didn’t matter to the base, so I don’t know.

I keep thinking of the picture of the woman in a fur coat, sipping champagne during a gay pride dance party in DC. Do you remember the pic? That’s my energy right now.
