We dodged a bullet last night. We were going to the baseball game with our friends and about an hour before our friend took a test because he had a scratchy throat and felt run down - faint positive. So we would have been in the car and then at the game for 3+ hours with him and his early covid. We went to the game without them and I wore my mask as much as possible. Oh wow, I'm glad he tested!

Day 7 and my test is just very slighting more faint than Day 5. My husband and kids are planning to drive 8 hours to his parents tomorrow night and I don't think I'm going to miraculously have a negative test by then.

I don't particularly love the 8 hour drive but we've done it a bunch and it's really not that bad and I feel bad for my husband having to do it alone and also it's his birthday on Friday. 😭

piratecat, having your house to yourself for a few days doesn't sound like the worst thing. You'll almost certainly be testing negative by the time they get back- and being able to leave your room sounds fabulous.

I just feel really bad, especially since I'll be missing his birthday, but I'm glad they're able to go (hopefully).

My 6yo turned a faint positive last night, but he's asymptomatic. Mh and I are still negative. Minerva how is your DD?

She definitely has something (cough and congestion), but she’s in good spirits and hasn’t turned a COVID test yet despite daily testing. I keep reminding myself that normal colds are still a thing. But it seems like everyone else around us has BA.5, so I don’t know what to think.

I think DS2 has a cold (and gave it to MH who is being ridiculously man sick). All tests have been negative
We need some kind of amazing swab test that checks for tons of viruses. I thought we'd at least have at home flu tests by now

So DD flies to camp on Sunday. We have to Covid test her Friday morning and they will test her upon check in as part of camp protocols. We will also test Sunday morning because god forbid she were to turn a test when she got there after traveling without us- that would be bad!!
So the rapid tests we have are the government generic in the blue box. I don’t find them quite as trust worthy as say binax, but the extra step of having to swab in the tube feels like there is more room for error.
Point is, I should trust these tests, right? Or would you be seeking out an alternative? Binax appears to be hard to get in my area right now.

I’m sorry for all the positive tests. Piratecat enjoy the peace and quiet.
A year ago I was incredulous that I was still getting masks for school and here we still are

I haven't ever used the Binax but have used iHealth and the generic government tests and they seem fine. The generics are all we've been using this week.

H has symptoms of whatever respiratory crud DD has. His symptoms started last night. I guess we will test them both for COVID this afternoon.
DD is feeling much better. She just has a little residual cough at this point and is running around the house like she owns the place.

Worst news: the baby’s rapid test has the faintest line. 😭😭😭

piratecat, I am so sorry! The never ending reinfections through the family is it’s own special psychological torture. Does this cancel the trip for everyone or do you and the baby stay behind?

The virus mh picked up at a 20,000 person concert that apparently is not Covid continues to sweep my house. My 6 yo went from the sickest I’ve ever seen to totally fine bouncing ball of energy in 48 hours. Mh is on day 8 of symptoms, and my 7 yo had a fever of 102 at 2:30 this morning. Whatever it is, it sucks and I very much hope I am not next.

No one is going this weekend. If anyone else tests positive in the next few days we may have to cancel our vacation, too.

I'm so sorry, piratecat. We're supposed to be going to visit my mom and see her new house today, and to see my aunt and uncle for the first time in years on Saturday. And it's all been canceled :/
