A thread for Noom and MFP and WW and general chit chat about diet and making better food choices.
ETA: I am updating this original post to say how frustrating and fairly pointless Noom is as a program. Just in case anyone stumbles on this thread and thinks that anyone here had a good experience with Noom. Because, no, no we didn't.

I've been in sort of personal crisis mode lately with my physical health. I just want to live my adult life in the body that I have in my head... which is NOT the same body that I see in pictures of myself. That body looks like it was eaten by my current body. So I must make a change. Also, my kid is over 2 years old so "baby weight" ain't working as an excuse anymore. I'm feeling the pressure of this a lot lately. I'm not worried about how I look in a bikini. I'm feeling my own mortality and starting to really worry about living a long and healthy life for DS.

In good news I just weighed myself and the number was kinder than I thought. Only 30 lbs to lose instead of 38.

I've signed up for the four month plan, with 2 week free trial. Let's see how this goes.
For exercise I have a membership to corepower yoga. I've used it... zero times this month. It's hard to motivate yourself to go to hot yoga when it's 90 degrees out.

I also signed up for the 4 months with 2 week free trial. I have 25 lbs to lose.
I've been gaining and losing the same 8 lbs for like 4 months. It's absurd.

starting to really worry about living a long and healthy life for DS. I also want to help my kids have good eating habits (they... don't really right now).
But I also want to be a mom that plays with them out in the yard and at the park and isn't the one always sitting down. This is my biggest thing (well besides the 50-60 pounds I would like to lose). My kid loves veggies, but will pick a snack of chips and cookies before them when it used to not be that way.

I have actively been avoiding meetups and events with people who knew me when I was "thin". Like - I've been saying no to college friends who are in town, going anywhere when I'm at home visiting my parents, seeing a high school best friend when we were both in the same city in Florida on vacation.
I have a meetup with my girls in Charleston SC in September. I'm dreading it. I love them, but I look so different from the last time I saw any of them. I put on 20 lbs this year according to the scale at my Dr. My thyroid levels were fine. She's running some more tests (I'm so GD tired all the time, even though I'm getting plenty of sleep). I just. I need something to change.

I will be checking this out. I have been gaining and losing the same 10 pounds for the past two years. I've lost weight before and it was so much easier than it is now after having a kid. I' think I spiraled out of control and have major binge eating issues now. I'm stressing about my weight and I don't want it to be the focal point when my Dd is older. I want her to have a healthy realationship with food and not follow in my footsteps. I want to be a good role model for her too. Also, my self esteem is an all time low about my body. I know I will be happier if I was 40-50 pounds lighter.

I'm starting with a 10 lb goal. The divorce diet worked for awhile , but now it's turned into hate eating.
Portion control is my weakness.

It's like you are all in my mind - I really need something like this after seeing pictures of myself recently, it was...not good...Similar to Sundae, I feel good (mostly) but then I see photographic evidence & it crushes me... I am signing up & hope you'll let me join in on this journey!

I'm going to follow along and read all your comments and opinions on the program. I think after the craziness that is my next month, I may sign up. I did the quiz a while back, and to lose 20 lbs it recommended I join the 2 month program. What I liked is that it was the cost of basic gym membership around here. So I think it'll be good since I have a spin bike and weights at home and wont have to go to a gym.

I'm at a plateau. I am officially at pre-pregnancy weight, but that wasn't too great.
I'd love to be about 10lbs less and/or more muscular. (I'd be ok at this weight if I was actually fit and not jiggly).
I'm going to try the two week trial and see how it goes.
I definitely do better with accountability, so having a big group of people doing it helps me mentally as well.

Signing up for something like this isn't in my budget ATM with saving every spare cent for IVF, but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks of it. I'll hang out in my hybrid MFP/21 day fix corner and stalk the thread.
I'm also in the Wellbutrin camp with many, many emotional/mental stumbling blocks and a sluggish-but-not-clinically-bad thyroid that they won't give me meds for. I HAVE to lose about 30-40ish before we can even do the IVF, and I feel like time is disappearing from me, which is making me panicky.

I just signed up for the free trial. How perfect that this coincides with my first day of my and H's serious effort to transition to a healthier lifestyle.

So this is I felt after my birthday in April. I was at my highest weight ever and just kind of freaked out. I joined WW the next day. It's now been 3 months and I've lost 19 lbs. I still have over 20 to go to goal and it's definitely getting harder and going slower.
I'm going to stick with WW right now because it's working, but I'll be curious to hear about Noom and how it compares from those who have done both.
And I'd love to join the thread because the basic premise is the same - stop putting so much crap in my mouth and start moving my body more. 😉

I signed up for the four month. I was a little heavier than pre-pregnancy but still at an ok weight and then I gained 20 lbs after my dad died last year. I'm now suffering from what I call "dieter's mentality". So when I'm on a nutrition plan, I do well, but when I get off, I eat all kinds of crap because I won't be able to eat it when I'm dieting. Sundae, hot yoga is my thing. It is hot in the summer but surprisingly once I get in and start sweating, it really is ok. HilarityEnsued, I would love to see you try another studio. What happened the other time was not your fault. I've done a fair amount of yoga and there are definitely quality differences in instruction. When I leave the studio, I have the best, calmest feeling- it's like natural Xanax, and I want that for you.

My only question about the app is...what more is it doing than step tracking and calorie counting (which you can download free from lots of places)? Is it a situation where you're going to have to input a few days of data, and then the personalization will begin? So far I've found my coach, a group, and there are "assignments" each week.

So I too am doing a hodge podge of diets.

I downloaded the app and did the quiz. I am thinking they started me low on calories because I have less on here than MFP. They only gave me 1640, but most other places are around 1850 or so.

I'm not sure I want to sign up right away, so I will be in the following along group for now. The last few months have been pretty rocky, and while I do want to make my health, diet, and exercise a priority, I need to sort of take things one step at a time. I think starting something like this in a month or two once we get back into more of a "normal" routine would be better for me.

Holy shit! They only gave me 1200 calories. Ah well.
I will say that after being here for so long and being accustomed to protecting my personal info, they want me to join this online group, share my name, location, and photograph. I'm all- who are these creepers?

Noom has me at 1200 calories. I'm going to have to ask someone about that because that's not healthy or sustainable.

I'm all- who are these creepers? I have a fake name and no picture. But also 1200 calories, but when I looked it had my target weight set at 44.6 pounds. So, I fixed that. But my calorie goal hasn't changed.

I have 1210 calories. That should be interesting. I'll be waiting to see how much they give to make up for exercise.
