The truth is that when he was cast, Jackson insisted he have a purple lightsaber so he could see which one he was in the big battle scene. There is lore that has arisen that basically says how each color represents the different personalities of the Jedi who wield them. It really is dependent on the kyber crystal that is used to make the sabers. |

I was thinking more of having to deal with air resistance, that a pointed ship would probably be more aerodynamical. But in physics, we do always start off with a spherical assumption. |
