Has anyone had GD before? I asked my doctor if I could just check early because I'm extremely anxious and want to have all my bases covered. She called me today and told me the test came back positive for GD. She's scheduling me for the longer version next week. I don't really have any experience with it and am trying so hard not to fall into the google trap but I'm just feeling so scared/angry/embarrassed that I've done something wrong and put the health of my baby is jeopardy. It's all just so confusing, I mostly follow a paleo diet style and don't drink juice or pop, don't typically eat white carbs and definitely no cake or anything like that. I'm not the most active person but I get 30 minutes in a day. Sorry for all of this word vomit, MH is away this weekend and stuck in my own mind about this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I haven't had GD but with DD I missed the cutoff on the 1 hour test by like 4 points so they made me take the three hour. I passed with perfect numbers. You may or may not have it but this is just to show you that "failing" (I don't have a better word for it) the one hour doesn't mean you have GD.

First, GD is an issue with the placenta not something you "caused". The older you are the higher the risk for developing it, if you have a family history of diabetes, are obese when you get pregnant or have PCOS (I had all of these risk factors with Ava). I wasn't diagnosed until a few weeks before she was born at 32 weeks but my biggest frustration is that I.LOVE.CARBS. I wanted carbs all the time and even small amounts would send my glucose levels higher than the doctor wanted them an hour after eating. My Dad is diabetic so my Mom was able to give me advice and let me know while my sugar was high it was not a dangerous level so to continue to try to experiment and try to see what my limits were. After a few weeks of tracking and not hitting my target numbers my OB put me on an oral medication. I didn't get much time to see how that worked before Ava was born, but don't jump straight to "OMG I have to use Insulin". Most people are able to control it by diet and moderate exercise. Try to keep in mind there are a lot of false positives with the one hour test. You pump your system with an insane amount of glucose and then they want it back to normal levels one hour later. The three hour is a little more accurate, but I'm going to warn you it is HELL. What made you think to ask for the test this early? Try to think of this as "knowledge is power". This will not harm your baby unless your sugar levels get really out of control, a few points above target levels will not do any lasting damage to you or the baby.

I wanted to test for it early because of my anxiety. I have bad GAD and tend to spiral on all things health. I never lost the weight after DS and even gained 15 pounds since having him. I started to worry that being so over weight meant that I wasn't healthy enough to carry a baby or would somehow put the baby and myself at risk. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on it, my doctor just kinda left me hanging on the phone! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

maddisonrose, I "failed" the 1 hour test and passed the 3 hour with no problem. Of course it's possible you do have GD, but just know it's common to "fail" the one hour but not have it.

I legit may not be able to walk in the morning. My hip has hurt all day and we are camping tonight so I'm sleeping on a horrible, thin mattress. I laid down for one minute, tried to roll over and almost cried. How will I pee in a couple hours? ??

I am another one who had to do the three hour and passed, maddisonrose. You shouldn't feel like you failed anything, particularly if you've been eating as well as you can. It's fairly easy to fail the one hour. The three hour isn't fun, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just felt a little like a pincushion afterwards and made DH take me straight to pancakes in case I couldn't have them after the test results came in.

Hi all. I just sneezed and DD Said "bless you". Soooooo cute!!!
I'm being lazy on the couch. I have a sink full of dishes.... That I don't want to do. My ILS are coming over this afternoon for a visit and going to make me lasagna. I'm excited.
I'm Sooooo tired. Tuesday I'm taking a bereavement day though, a close family friend of my ILS passed away last week so we're going to the service.

Oh no marygracerich. You had bleeding before, right? Did your Dr know why? Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk I had a lot of spotting but it stopped at around 9 1/2 weeks except for one time around 11w. She didn't say a cause because she says it's normal up until around 14w. π If it continues, I am going to the emergency room to get an ultrasound. I pay nothing for ER visits and I need to know everything is ok. It's the hospital that my dr delivers in anyway and since she is the only dr in her practice, they are likely to call her.

Sounds like you are doing the right things, marygracerich. I hope there's no more bleeding! That would scare me too. I've been dreaming nightly about it...not great for my anxiety. Or maybe my anxiety is causing those dreams, more likely.

It has stopped for now and I hope it stays this way. I hope your dreams turn happier.

maddisonrose, I did not have GD with my first but my sister did. She just adjusted her diet and the baby was perfectly fine! She did not test positive for it with her second and um...ate a lot of milkshakes and other sweets and that baby was born with his sugars out of whack. She thinks she probably did have it, even though the test wasn't positive and she was very upset with herself too. But he turned out fine in the long run! For her third, she mostly tried to eat following the GD diet, even though she didn't test positive for it. BTW, she is skinny and active and it just happened anyway. Hope this helps. Even if you don't fail the 3 hour, you could still adopt some of the eating strategies for GD. Maybe your doc can recommend a dietician. We have a friend that is a dietician so she worked with my sister to establish a plan.

I am quite proud of myself this morning. I had a healthy breakfast for the first time in....2 months?! (I've been mostly eating bagels, which I don't consider healthy! well, an occasional smoothie which is decent since I just do fruit, almond milk, yogurt) I made steel cut oats in my new Instant Pot and added peaches and walnuts. I resisted adding any sweeteners and it was still delicious because the peaches are so good.

I had sex 2 or 3 days ago but I have had sex a few times since I was cleared with no spotting. It has stopped for now. I am wondering if I slept wrong or something. I don't know. I am going to stay with my feet up for a few more hours and hope that everything is ok.

Good morning ladies! Yesterday was a crazy day and I felt like crap. I had a baby shower for one of my best mom friends last night! It was fun and I finally spilled the beans to all the other ladies! Today I need to be productive and help hubs will one of his papers, hopefully we'll somehow manage to get that done!

I'm so glad DH is here for a little bit to help w DD but he has to go in about 20 min to serve in the preschool at church. Im ready for the 2nd trimester energy surge but two weeks in it doesn't look promising haha

It's the most defeating feeling after you think you are done with it for good. FWIW i spotted at 16, 23 and 27 weeks and then I was done. I had placenta previa at the time but they didn't tell me until after the 16 week episode. π€It stops for you for good. Keep us posted.

I'm still scared something has gone wrong and I don't know it. My dr does an ultrasound at all visits and I see her next week. If I don't have anymore bleeding, I will wait until I see her. If I see one more drop from now until then, I will be on the phone right away.
