Our camp is 9-4. But we have an option for additional care. Which is them playing outdoors or watching movies depending on weather. And that is 7-5.
I’ve given up on a traditional work week and just get my work done when I can.

I would like to get my kids into some music lessons. I'm sure I could teach beginner piano but J is set on only learning how to play the tuba. I don't know that tuba lessons for 2nd graders are a thing though? Lol. He is also interested in drums, which would be fine too. You are much nicer than me or maybe your house is better sound proofed LOL. ETA L wants to learn the flute when her hands are big enough. She and J have recorders and tin whistles for now. Haha, earplugs!! Drums sound more tolerable to me than a recorder...

Thanks jnu76! That description does sound like him. I was thinking that as well about piano to help with reading music. Sounds like a good plan!

We were always in swimming lessons, always. When I was very young I remember doing gymnastics, Sparks (girl guides), Irish dancing, piano-none of these were chosen by me. I tried all the sports through my upper elementary years and finally got the riding lessons I’d been begging for for half my life. That’s the only thing I stuck with for years and I’d still like to get back to it.
My kids are in swimming and gymnastics right now. Neither of them seem interested in team sports and I’m fine with that. B has been asking for music lessons but I really don’t think he has the attention span for it. I’d like them both to be involved in scouts or 4-H but they’re still on hold.

I just now caught up on the random that initiated this thread. I've had other random thoughts over the years wondering if I would be less of a pushover if my mom had let me do organized sports or anything club-like as a youngster. I don't want the traveling sports life either though so I'm hoping they'll both be competitive enough to stand their ground but not OTT like my brother's family.

I've never been to the east coast so take this with a grain of salt, but L and J did an on-line music note reading class last year with a mom in either Norfolk or Fairfax, VA. L loved it and actually learned from it. She has an in-home studio where she teaches lessons so PM me if you want her contact info. I know you're somewhat in that area but maybe you're really 4 hours away LOL.

My husband said no to Scouts because of the pledge to love God (and I agree) but 4-H looks like it has a lot of different activities that develop similar skills! I always thought of it as kids raising cows and pigs for show but I see there's a lot more to it than that.

I told J that boy scouts weren't in our area because I didn't want to deal with it for the same reason as YH. Plus the (admittedly limited) exposure I have had to boy scouts has been very cult-ish and just way more involved than I prefer.

I also just signed up for training with our local nature conservation program to monitor vernal pools from April-November. I’ll be the one doing the work but I’m planning to bring the kids along with me and teach them how to record the data and see the way our land changes throughout the year.

Oh -M did theater pre-pandemic and it was great for her. It hasn't picked up again yet for various reasons, but I hope it does soon and she still wants to do it. I would love to get B involved in theatre. He’s so expressive and has such a great memory for language. It would be great for his confidence. Thanks for mentioning this!

jnu76 I think you'll need to give us all the musical stereotypes now LOL I was a drummer (snare, mostly. But I liked playing jazz rhythms on the set).

I was an oboe player and I’m married to an oboe player. I don’t even want to ask…
(Also, I don’t think we were typical oboe players. We weren’t taking private lessons and carving our own reeds. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
