TTMA your kids' naps. I know we've discussed this before, but I'm at a loss of what to do for J.
He just turned 3. Shortly before Christmas I stopped doing naps during the day and he started going to bed around 7pm and sleeping until about 730/8 in the morning (he would still wake up about 50% of the time in the middle of the night). It worked well for several months. Lately though, he very clearly needs a nap in the afternoon. By 3, he's acting tired, being physically mean to M and me, and just unpleasant. Right now he's basically falling asleep in his high chair.
When the kid naps, he NAPS. There are no 30 minute power naps with this child, it's all or nothing and all is generally about 3 hours. I can't even wake him up until he's ready, he just won't wake up- and if he does get woken up somehow he is a whiny, crying, terror. Also, if he sleeps at all during the day, even a 15 minute car nap, he is up until at least 10pm, usually later. We still do bedtime at the same time, but he just won't go to sleep.
By keeping him up with no nap, he gets 12+hrs of sleep. If he takes a 3 hr nap during the day, he generally will sleep from 11-6, so that's only 10 hrs total. And then he's a nightmare the entire next day. And it takes several days to get him back on track.
Is anyone else's child like this? Is there some obvious solution that I'm missing?
