DH got a postcard for the VA election! I don't think we've gotten one before. I've already voted. I got one a few weeks ago! I was so excited. I vote far more than average so we usually don't get contacted. Yes. We never get voter outreach. They are definitely leaving everything on the field this year. I hope it works!

Really good interview with that guy who trapped the alligator in a trash can a week or so ago (what is time??). He’s pitching a show to Netflix 🤞🤞

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I’m now eligible. Me too. I'm very cautiously optimistic. This would be a game changer for us. I don't understand how you wouldn't be eligible? I'm eligible and am employed by the same government agency. Or is it due to the type of loan?

I know we can’t get complacent, but I think this is true and reasonable.

We are keeping a very close eye on this at work; we've been tasked with coming up with white papers and webcasts around this, so if you have questions; I might have answers.

I know we can’t get complacent, but I think this is true and reasonable. I spoke with someone at the campaign today and they basically said, we totally have the votes, we just have to turn out those votes pdq

My type of loans and job are pretty much exactly the kind that have always qualified so I’m not too concerned for myself. But I’m glad they are finally trying to fix it.

This feels like a big deal. Maybe not to everyone, but this governor election is a big deal.
ETA The more the look into this guy, the worse he is. He doesn’t even live in the state. He was also at the 1/5 meeting at TT.

Or is it due to the type of loan? I have 17+ years of public service and I'm not eligible. Not even under the temporary expansion. For me, it's because I have private loans. MH taught for 10 years at a public university but he wasn't eligible for PSLF because as an adjunct he never qualified as "full time." Bitter, party of 2 (me and mh)

Ohhhhh fuuuuuuck this
"Bruce Carlson considers himself mainly a Democrat. He voted for Bill Clinton and Barack Obama for president and for Terry McAuliffe for governor back in 2013. But he won’t be voting to make McAuliffe Virginia’s governor for a second time. Carlson, a retired hospital administrator, is switching over to the Republican, Glenn Youngkin, because he believes public schools are pushing a radical agenda in which American history is portrayed as racist, and transgender kids are encouraged to use the bathroom of their choice. In the country’s biggest electoral showdown of the year, Virginians are deciding whether to return McAuliffe to office, making him only the second governor in state history to serve a second term, or turn to Youngkin, a wealthy political neophyte. The outcome, strategists from both parties agree, will hinge on which candidate best generates enthusiasm from his base, overcoming the traditionally sharp falloff in voting in the year following a presidential election."
Bruce Carlson is an old white man from the part of Virginia that is effectively West Virginia so his local schools are not teaching CRT.
I see WaPo is taking the NYT "interview racists in diners" approach now

The amount of times I’ve seen old people bitching about their property taxes and why do they need to pay so much for the school district when they don’t have kids. Thankfully usually plenty of people chime in and are like well we have one of the best districts in the state so maybe you should be proud to live here….

Also it just perfectly fits the boomer narrative that they can’t see past their own nose for the betterment of society. Yes this a generalization and not all boomers (my parents are very pro taxes for schools), but man. When you try to explain to them that the taxes improve the district curriculum and improve the chances of the students entering adulthood prepared for college, etc. which in turn will produce a better workforce and community/society in the future. They don’t care because they’ll be dead.
I for one would prefer to make sure future generations have what they need to succeed. Even after my kids have graduated some day.

Same reason they don't give a shit about the climate. They'll be long dead when we all deal with the consequences of their actions.

It's going to really be something when these 10 and 11 year olds, who see boomers refusing to do simple things like wear a mask to help protect them, are old enough to vote and are asked to pay more in taxes to protect social security and Medicare for those same boomers
