I finished The Sanatorium last night granted I was tired when I was done but I did not like ending at all it felt so confusing and poorly constructed.

I finally finished Catherine House - it was a book. I wasn't a fan and wish I had DNF'd it.

I just finished Within These Wicked Walls a YA supernatural romance. It was fine. I think most YA just isn't for me. I also felt like it kind of downplayed an abusive father as not that bad because he was also hurting and that just didn't work for me at all.
The writing was fine though and it was an easy read. I gave it three stars for that reason but it was more like a 2 star for me.

I finished The Mother In-law last night. I liked the structure of the multiple perspectives but it felt drawn out and the end was predictable.

I'm reading both The Invisible Husband of Frick Island and The Chicken Sisters. I don't usually read more than one book at a time bit these are both so... airy that I decided to get them both out of the way. The Invisible Husband of Frick Island is there less compelling of the two, and the author has used the word "nonplussed" incorrectly on two occasions. I may not finish it, we'll see.

We Begin At The End was good, but heartbreaking.

I started Apples Never Fall on my Kindle, and will likely also start the Huntress since it’s due the soonest at the library.

I started The Hearts Invisible Furies yesterday and I am in love. The description of this book didn’t grab me, but people kept telling me I needed to read it, so I got the audio from Libby and I’m completely caught up on laundry because that’s my favorite audiobook activity and I don’t want to stop listening. So good.

Reading The Ghost Bride.
It’s dragging a little bit but I want to see how it ends.

We Begin At The End was good, but heartbreaking. I’m about 75% through this now and yeah, it’s a tough read. It’s beautifully written but just relentlessly sad.

I lurk this thread and add so many books to my library holds. That then lapse because like someone said unthread, there’s only so much brainspace available these days.
I just finished my first novel in probably 2 or 3 years last night - Crazy Rich Asians. Yes I’m late to the party. I really liked it and now want to go to Singapore.
I’m looking for recs for next book to read. As examples, some of my all-time favourites are: The Lovely Bones The English Patient Life of Pi Power of One.
Any recs in this kind of genre?

I wasn't sure you were going to in the middle but I think no matter how much you end up liking it, it's really a book where the end ties so much together that it would be a bit sad to leave it unfinished.

I can’t help with your question because I haven’t read those, but there are two more books in the trilogy after Crazy Rich Asians. I enjoyed all of them!

Looks like we have pretty similar tastes. I would check out: Away by Jane Urquhart Fall on Your Knees by Anne-Marie MacDonald In the Skin of a Lion by Michal Ondaatje (he’s already a fav so why not!) These are older Canadian fictions that were some of my first literary fiction reading. At the time I read them, I don’t think I was able to process them appropriately, so I’m planning on going back to all of these over the next year or two. I want to see what I take from them at 40.
