duskymonkey Why does everything break at once? Hopefully you can get it all sorted out quickly. curmudgeon Good to hear you had minimal damage after the hurricane. Taitai T&P’s to you. I thought I had the most amount of weeks of virtual out of all of O17. It’s so hard to juggle work and school.

Back to school has gone as well as possible. The kids are like new children, they are way better with me and each other it’s amazing! They were in daycare all summer but it’s not the same as going to school.
We started our activities too, no swimming or skating lessons since it would require breaking distancing since they still need help. The DD1 is doing karate and gymnastics since she wants to be a ninja and DD2 is doing indoor soccer and gymnastics.
My inlaws are planning a visit. Their province is a Covid dumpster fire so we are going to make them get rapid tests upon arrival. I have to buy a bed for the unfurnished guest room and of course most things are out is stock. Work is slow so I’m going to scour the internet this afternoon for something.

Taitai that virtual schooling sounds like a nightmare. I know it is what it is at this point but elementary kids and younger need so much help from grownups. When this is over, and it will surely be over one day, it is going to feel so strange and different for you all with kids at a physical school and being able to actually work uninterrupted by kids! August Blooms I love that your DD1 wants to be a ninja! My DD1 is convinced she will be a singing superhero. Our shelves are empty of random things here so hopefully you can find all that you need for your inlaws visit. CoachTsWife It’s awesome you all are 3-0. Do your boys get into football since dad is coaching? duskymonkey when it rains it really does pour. I hope everything gets fixed soon for you. We also just out DD1 in Girl Scouts and she is equally excited!

DD2 insisted we FaceTime my mom’s dog tonight. She briefly said hi to grandma and grandpa but really she just loves that dog. So for 30 minutes my mom held the phone in front of her dog and let DD2 tell the dog about her day, sing to her, talk about what they would do the next time we came up… all sorts of important 3 year old things 😂
I really would love a dog. The girls would love a dog. H grew up on a farm where animals were not pets so we’re working on him. We will win him over but I’m waiting till after the house reno to start working on that.

H and I grew up with dogs, and they really do bring so much joy to a family.

In laws are not coming. I’m happy to not have houseguests but sad my kids are not able to see them. Their province is maxed out on ICU’s due to COVID and are trying to enlist other provinces for help. They would be safer here but some how think that their government will implement draconian measures that would impact them being able to return. It makes no sense but I’m good with it. Meanwhile here things are gradually getting better, proof of vaccine is rolling out if you want to eat inside restaurants, go to the moves, gym or any major indoor event. Vaccine rates are up to the high 80’s for people eligible. Life is inching to normalcy but with masks and distancing.
DD1’s teacher had a chat with me last week about getting her assessed by a developmental pediatrician. She is very defiant and does not listen. She also still pee’s her pants which at 6 1/2 she shouldn’t be doing. I’m trying to work on some parenting strategies and working to better enforce boundaries and consequences. I haven’t been the best at doing that so I think there’s some room for improvements while we are waiting for an appointment. Her teacher was very nice about it and nothing she said was a surprise.
Other than that life is good, it’s Friday, I’ll be having pizza and wine later.

CoachTsWife, gosh you too have lots happening! and I am so happy to hear your mom was able to come to the rescue which means she is doing well too! danvers how is school going for you and your H? Love that your D1 is in GS. DS is enjoying it so far and they've only had 2 den meets and a pack meet. He is so proud and wanted to wear his uniform to school this week and has already worn his pack T-shirt twice this week to school! Taitai unfortunately, the floor is damaged and can possibly be sanded down? or will have to be replaced? so we just have to bear the uneven floor until then. I was telling hubs that luckily the basement isn't finished yet so nothing ruined other than piles of my artwork. Bathroom is a a different story and will have to be taken apart ugh! We have another bathroom so it's ok. We're now hoping to finish the basement hopefully in the next year now that the kids vaccines will be out soon! and then repair and redo what is needed in our main living quarters. So yes! I think when you return for Christmas, both kiddos should be able to get their vax! How are you and your H hanging on with online school? It's so stressful juggling work and that. I keep reminding myself and it's hard, kids this young catch up fast and more resilient and adaptable than we give them credit for. I think it's much harder for older kids, I really feel for senior high school kids. I am surprised there isn't some sort of youth program there? We had scouts in my country but then we were a British colony so it was already established as part of the school system. Huh...I wonder if you can see about signing up with a pack where your family is? A lot of the adventure earning badges can actually be completed under a parent guidance and if you return every summer, packs usually have programs and events the boys can participate in and they can be awarded badges they earned too when they return during council/pack meetings? Maybe look into reaching out to them to see if it is possible. The only thing you won't be able to do is fundraising i.e. selling popcorn although you can do it online is what I was told.

August Blooms that's so wonderful to hear that your girls are doing well with school. It really affects everyone when we are sequestered together for great lengths of time. I truly believe absence does make the heart fonder too. DS is too sweet too, he runs out of bus line to give me last minute hugs and kisses before he gets on the bus every day and blows kisses as the bus drives off. I am also sorry to hear DD1 is having a tough time. It can be very hard for them to express their feelings and emotions at this young age too and will act out from that inability. DS was also peeing his pants up till the beginning of the year. He suddenly stopped and I can't remember if we had punished him ( removing privileges, staying in his room, toy he was playing with into the misbehavior box ? ) but he finally stopped. DS also has trouble identifying with his emotions and feelings. More later, my laptop battery is dying lol! ETA. I wanted to mention that it was really very understanding of your DD1's teacher to approached the subject with considerate care as opposed to blaming the parent. Honestly, so far, I am very impressed with all of DS' teachers he's crossed paths with. Speaks volumes to teacher's training danvers.

I hope everyone is doing well and cannot believe it's almost the end of September! Our littles are going to 4 very soon. How insane is that. It seemed they just turned 2 when the pandemic started and now turning 4. Anyone have plans for celebrating their 4th? Lil fella has asked for a mango cake *head smack* and I've asked him randomly the past couple months and he's always said the same. He's also asked for the big boy train to be on it along with trees, lemurs and blue and red snails lol! I've eaten mango cakes but they were mousse cakes and can't support marzipan on top of it. I also don't have a recipe for it and will have to wing it and make one up. Oy! Where in the world do they get these crazy ideas from. We decided not to do a party since our germ pod is broken now that all the kids are in school. Speaking of which there are now 2 confirmed CV cases in DS' friend's class which has a parent worried that their kid may have gotten it from the 1st confirmed case last week and another parent is really worried about their kid even though masked, could still be potentially exposed. The mental stress of it all is just too much. End of October cannot come quickly enough.

duskymonkey Oh man, I’m sorry that your home will need so many repairs, and that you had so much of your art work damaged. That is so sad! You have a good attitude about it, but I still know it’s hard. Will be thinking about you guys as you figure out next steps. How cute about your DS2 wanting a mango cake with trains and snails on top! I am sure you will put together something amazing, as always. Funny about the snail thing - my boys are really into them too! Really good idea about seeing if we can join a cub scouts pack during the summer when we are back in the USA. I am positive my boys would love that. They do have scouts here, but it’s for Thais only - foreigners not allowed. I can understand why - it’s in Thai language and it’s also integrated with the Thai public school system, which foreign kids are also not permitted to attend. I should look to see if there are any expat groups that do scouting…I haven’t heard of it from any of my expat friends though. Worst case, we could hopefully find a troop to join just for summer time. Lets see! August Blooms I’m relieved for you that you don’t have to worry about your ILs visiting, but what a bummer that your kids can’t see your grandparents. Sounds like your DD1 has a great teacher, and I wish you luck as you work on things while waiting for an appointment. I know my DS1 can be very oppositional - it’s a struggle sometimes with strong-willed kids. What great vaccination figures you have! I’m so jealous. I think they will get to the 80s/90s over here too, the problem is just vaccine supply shortage.

I haven’t really thought much about DS2’s 4th birthday, which is now less than a month away. I know that he wants an Oreo cream cake, just like what we made for him last year. He also wants a pedal bike, to be just like DS1, but I think he’s still too young. He’s great with his balance bike, but I’d like to hold out on giving a pedal bike until DS2 turns 5. That’s what we did for DS1, and it worked perfectly.
The boys are really into Ghostbusters lately (DH showed them the original movie a few weekends ago), so maybe some Ghostbusters toys for his birthday. Oh, and legos are always popular.
I don’t think we’re going to do a party. The vaccination rates here are still pretty low - most people only have 1 shot, and I just don’t feel comfortable having a big shindig. Also, in person school might start up in late October, so I’m not going to expose my kids to any extra germs and end up having to keep them home for a cold when everyone else is at school! I NEED my kids to go back to school! It’s been so long…. Fingers crossed!
