What a Monday-thing to happen peachsmama, hope the rest of your week is much better! My whole morning and $95 later, the icemaker cannot be fixed without a $1200 kit Samsung sells, which the repairman said is not getting great reviews. Seems silly to spend that much for a fridge that is notoriously problematic. (Thankfully we can still get ice/water, it just requires defrosting once a week or so). SO we will start researching new, non-Samsung refrigerators. Does anyone have the kind where the icemaker/water dispenser are accessed from inside the fridge (as opposed to the door)?

My next door neighbor has 4 kids and loves hers, but we haven't talked about it in depth...I only mentioned it in passing to her. I'm just exploring all options...after talking to the appliance guy (who's been in the business for 30 years), he prefers that kind from an engineering standpoint--more streamlined, basically less 'room' for problems/issues that occur when the dispenser is in the door. I have a love-hate relationship with the in-door dispenser--I like the convenience, but hate the inevitable mess. (Our current model also makes you push to cycle b/n cubed ice, crushed ice, and water, which may contribute to the drips, etc. It may be better if you have separate dedicated dispensers for water & ice?) We also can't operate the dispenser and open the opposite door simultaneously, which seems like 'not a big deal' but actually really drives me crazy every night while cooking, etc.

I agree, sounds like a non issue but it drives me nuts daily.

I’ve seen ice holder on the inside of the door. I wonder if that would allow you to use it while the door is open? The model we have now have the water and ice dispenser separate. The water touch pad is right above the ice. The only qualm I have about that is that I have to hold anything in filling up, so if I’m trying to fill up anything bigger than cup size, It won’t sit on the ledge.

Hope the kids have a good first day. gusterpeachsmama Hope the rest of your day goes well. wedding This is random, but yesterday I thought about Bob after you mentioned visiting with your grandma. Has anything new happened on that front? Yes! I don’t know the last time I updated but I emailed him and we sent some back and forth. A couple of weeks ago my parents went to NC to meet him and it went well. They spent a few days together. My dad sent me a pic of my mom and Bob together and I could see the resemblance. Apparently he is also flighty like my mom. He wants to have a relationship with us going forward and is hoping to come up our way in the Spring to have all of our families meet. My brother hasn’t reached out and just needs more time I think. My mom, of course, is super gung ho about it and pestering my brother. Given that she still doesn’t want us telling our kids, there’s really no reason to push. My brother also just had a good friend die of an overdose and another in ICU with sepsis caused by some unknown infection. So he really doesn’t need the added stressor. My mom and I were chatting about puppies the other day and she says “Bob’s new puppy…”. I said “which Bob?” Because we both have neighbors named Bob and I have 3 uncles and a cousin named Bob so it could be anyone. She snapped at me and said “you’re BROTHER!” I didn’t know I was referring to him that way since I don’t know him! She is crazy so I would expect nothing less. Aren’t you glad you asked?!

flamingo as someone who has had many issues with refrigerators, plus just bought 2 (one for the new house, one for current house), I've talked to quite a few people about them. Everyone says the more simple the fridge, the less things to break, which obviously. Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool/GE are all owned by the same company, KA is top of the line, then WP, then GE. I was told Samsung and LG both have class action lawsuits against them, so we definitely steered far away from them. We want ice and water in the door because we all drink a lot of water. Opening the fridge everytime to get that seems really inefficient to me and lets a lot of the cool air out, so those weren't an option for us. I think all french door models are going to stop dispensing when 1 door is opened, side by sides still dispense. We ended up going with Whirlpool for everything except dishwasher (we didn't want any handle on it). I wanted the french door, water/ice in door, with the extra fridge drawer accessible from the outside, so we can put Evie's snack/fruit there, just so it doesn't let out cool air when open, since that's the most accessed in our fridge. I hate having a side by side now. I don't think it has the same kind of space I was used to with a french door. But we didn't want to buy something then move it again. The sales guy told us the more times you move it, the more chances for stuff to go bad.

Hi! Today is N’s first day of school. She was pretty anxious to go. Cried before bed, ended up in our bed most of the night and couldn’t sleep, then cried waiting for the bus. But I’m sure she’ll have a great day. She at least got to met her teacher last week and tour the school. Our district has no mask requirements, and no quarantine rules which is going to be a shit show considering our numbers right now. Ugh. Masks are required on buses, so I encouraged her to just keep it on all day. I’m curious to hear how that goes.
H got to meet his teacher this morning and starts school tomorrow. Seeing his classroom and teacher got him more a little more excited to start.

Morning! Thanks for the good wishes, he was pretty excited and drop off at before care went fine. We used to have to do a pincode and everything, and now we literally pulled up and they took him. The girls can start today apparently - I thought it was 9/1. We may start with N and get used to the new place before K starts. She asks hourly when she starts, so I think we need to send her asap. I'm glad it was a good start to the school year!

Cadence started crying at horse lessons today It was a combination of being tired from school, not understanding the terminology just yet, and her pony was being a jerk trying to be the boss. Her trainer mentioned a few private lessons to build her confidence. Bye bye money!
Now we're home and I told her she was making dinner tonight. Orange chicken with white rice. It's all prepackaged, so nothing hard, but she's very excited to do it herself.

It's a French door so the ice maker is in the fridge then comes down thru the door. That's a thought about the icemaker being attached to the door, will have to look into that! Our dispenser has to be held 'in' to activate, but my sister's is like you describe.

mwhip yes I know what you mean! We've had all styles with moving around so much so I definitely have preferences. Thanks for the info. The appliance guy said Bosch & Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool are his recommendations, as well. He said GE was recently sold to a Chinese company so until he sees what kind of product they'll make, he cannot recommend them *right now* (used to like them). He said the same thing about LG and Samsung as you mentioned. I've heard most of this before so I feel good about brands. Fun fact: he said look for microwaves made in Malaysia, they are typically better b/c they still manufacturer a lot by hand. Interesting! I def want a french door, which is what we have now; it's just the stupid ice maker/water dispenser that is my hold-up.

flamingo something else I though about...if the refrigerators you are looking at say, see how many ice cubes it makes per cycle. Our old one only made 6 cubes every couple of hours. When we were home on weekends, we were constantly out of ice. The new one makes smaller cubes, so it can keep up better. We still have a counter top ice maker going most of the time since H eats ice non stop. And yeah, the ice makers in many French door units take up a lot of the space on the left side, so you might check that. The KA we had made it in the ceiling, so no lost space, but not many cubes.

N got off the bus and claimed she doesn’t really like 2nd grade. Broke my heart a little. But I think it is just too much change and she misses her old school. I told her in a week or two it will start feeling normal.
Her and H are in bed giggling and bouncing around talking about school so I think they will both be happy to go tomorrow.

I said it takes a while to get into the swing of things though. Hoping it gets better soon for her and she makes some buddies that she looks forward to seeing. trtlcrzy how's the fam? Are you all ok?

I was just saying to my h how lucky we are that the kids love school and how hard it must be as a parent to have to send your kids to a place they don’t like. Glad she loves it after a while, but that doesn’t make these days any easier.

That is the exact problem with my Samsung fridge. I was so annoyed with the freezing up thing that we just bought 4 ice cube trays and make ice the old fashioned way. I want a new fridge but that won’t happen until this one breaks for good.
