I know it will get better after a couple of weeks, but the school drop off lines are ridiculous and they always piss me off. Lol. Too many people think their special snowflakes can only be dropped off front and center and refuse to drive to the end of the line. Apparently the principal even got emails about it and had to address it in her latest voicemail.
Pick up is even worse. I have to sit there for an hour before school lets out in order to be close enough to the front of the line that it doesn't take forever and make us late for her extracurriculars.
I'm so glad I don't have to do pick ups. Praise be.

Your insurance doesn’t cover it? It will, but I'd have to pay my deductible. Which is $500. And this would count as my "one accident forgiveness " and I don't want to waste that on this. We have glass coverage for $100 on our vehicles and when we use it, it doesn't count against us. Considering the amount of windshields I have had to replace, it's worth whatever the annual cost is.

There is a blood drive today so I decided to give since I’ve been taking a multivitamin consistently lately. Last time my hemoglobin was too low. It wasn’t smooth though. The flow was going too slow and they were trying to move that big ass needle around to improve it. I did not like that. I got a little lightheaded when they were doing that, but was determined today. They were gonna take my blood. One other time it was going too slow and I didn’t meet the time limit, so half the bag of blood was wasted. I wasn’t letting that happen again.

I didn’t get the job. I’m bummed. They told me they really liked me and that they tafelt there was a connection, but went for someone who had more experience in coaching teachers. Which felt a little weird, because that aspect was not part of the job description.
I have to work tomorrow. I texted two coworkers on Monday saying ‘hi hope you had a great summer, I’ll be at school Thursday, I’d like to meet you and make some plan etc etc’. The response? ‘Fine’ & ‘okay’, no hope you had a good summer too? How is the baby?… That basically sums up the relation between me and the coworkers at that job…

I thought my drop off was a pain in the ass… normally it’s a breeze, since most parents come by bike, but Covid rules simply cannot be applied, small space 100 parents picking up kids… I try to keep distance and go leave as soon as I have my kids, but a lot of others don’t. Luckily it’s all outside.

Hey, we’ve had a busy day. This morning I had an ortho appt so the kids went to my step mom’s and then we came home, I made them lunch and MIL picked up the big kids to go to a park. V is napping right now so I’m having some time to myself. The trim was dropped off for the basement, so now all we need are the doors and they will get working on finishing it up. The guy also showed up to stain the deck, hallelujah that project is going to be done. Just in time because we now need to move everything out of the basement and into the garage where all the patio furniture currently is. I will be so happy when all of this is done. guster sending healthy vibes your way! The only time I drop off kids is the first day of school or if they miss the bus. Their school has a YouTube video they made of the drop off/ pick up procedure and honestly it works pretty smoothly usually. Maybe you guys should suggest that to your schools.

trtlcrzy, we don't have buses for our school since its within the neighborhood. No one lives far enough away. Funny thing, the middle school's bus stop is at our elementary school, which obviously doesn't help the congestion issues.

Finally got a call from my ped to talk us off the ledge. She is so nice, she talked to us on speaker for 30 minutes. Ultimately she thinks we need to send everyone in to school and daycare and the benefits outweigh the risks. She wants us in high quality masks or double masked if possible. Said to coach John on eating and chewing with masks on if not eating outside.
Also spoke with a Montessori that sounds awesome, which I will tour for possibly k for next year since they don't have space for her now. They do have space for J if we aren't happy and need to make a change. I'm feeling a bit more at peace about this. You all probably think I'm a nut..I feel like one lately.

We still have to park our cars and walk up, but apparently I have to get both kids in two separate locations at the 3:10. I'm pretty sure I'm going to last week and then ask if Josie can walk over over to the kindergarten wing and dismiss with Charlie.

Sorry, @nam! I'm sure there is something better for you out there. tallb, I'm glad you have options for the future. I'm having trouble deciding on a higher quality mask. I made Charlie double mask today for his hair cut ** but I don't think he'd do it easily in school. I'm on the happy wait lists. I'd love to find reusable KN 95s but it's been a challenge. ** I asked his hairdresser if she would mind putting on a mask while she cut his hair, and she said she was would she didn't even have one with her (!!!) It was not a situation that made me comfortable, and I'm annoyed with myself for letting him sit through it, but she didn't talk and he was protected, and it was only about 10-15 minutes. Next time I'll ask her to note it in the appointment book when I call. And I definitely will bring a sealed one for her.

We also have the magnet bus stops for several different middle and high schools at our elementary school. It's a clusterfuck.

However, if you have multiple children, you can let the older kids' teacher's know and they make those kids go wait with the younger ones. Do you think they'd let you do that? Surely you aren't the only one.

Kindergarten and first grade get dismissed at one door and second grade down at the cafeteria with third through fifth, but once you're in third grade you're allowed to leave the cafeteria by yourself and walk to your car.

tallb I love the montessori concept, so focused on how to function as a whole in society and a very different approach to the ‘how’ on learning.

It is so interesting and I think j would really thrive in this environment with the project based approach, but our ped said it'd be best to go back to his current school if he's excited about it, even if it's a bit riskier. I want to tour and see it in action for k for next year. The back to school list is comical, it even includes a sleeping bag for nap time! Also not sure I could swing 3 tuitions if they had slots for all three..or we could for a year and then would need to return to public, so hopefully everything works out this year.

tallb I don’t think you’re a nut! Just a concerned parent. I know C won’t double mask but let me know what you do for high quality masks. He’s wearing the cat and Jack ones since they appear to be one of the few that don’t constantly slide off his nose but they are only two layers.

We have one happy masks in size small..I'm on the waitlist and am going to try a medium for him. I also have a few Korean ones from a neighbor to try, I'll report back on if those fit. Do the cat and jack ones have the nose wire or not? The nose wire ones didn't stay on him well, but the fabric ones did...I think they have slots for filters to add? Maybe try that. The most important is that they fit well and they will keep them on...so if that is a plain fabric one, that is better than a high quality floppy one.

tallb my pediatrician has talked me down twice in 3 weeks. My new curriculum is HighScope which seems similar to Montessori so I will let you know what I think (though it will be seriously modified with covid restrictions).

You’re not nuts. tallb Totally understandable that you want to explore other options because the school system may not be the safest place. If I had other options to explore, I would do so. Hope it all works out and your school does what they need to keep the kids safe and the cases low.
