2) depends on the restaurant too much to specify

Tacos are usually just my easy meal so I haven’t branched out too much from just the regular ground beef with the taco seasoning pack. We do fajitas semi often- usually just chicken, with sautéed onions and peppers. The big kid only likes refried beans in hers 😒 Sometimes we do shredded chicken, black beans, lettuce, and ranch My favorite I’ve made at home were using the crispy carnitas recipe from half baked harvest. So good. The other night SO bought those little street taco sized corn tortillas and filled with shredded chicken, cheese, and some taco sauce stuff and fried them. They were adorable and delicious. I’ve had these on my list to make for forever and still haven’t but they look good www.halfbakedharvest.com/crispy-cheese-chicken-tinga-tacos/I have more to say about tacos than I thought lol

At home:
blackened tilapia or ground turkey with Penzey's taco seasoning. Always with refried beans and cheese. Flour tortillas.
Out:
I don't think I've ever ordered them out. They are just too easy to make at home. When we go out for Mexican food it's usually fajitas or carnitas (old school/fried style only).
Olives as a taco topping? What? That's a nope from this Texan.

Super quick at home: ground beef cooked with frontera seasoning sauce, cheese, guac, salsa.
A little more time at home: IP or slow cooker carnitas with the same toppings.
Out: carne asada street tacos. But only from one specific place. Omg, so good.

I do ground turkey or very rarely, beef, with homemade taco seasoning, shredded Mexican blend cheese, sour cream, black olives, shredded lettuce. I make double deckers always. Lay a flour tortilla down, spread refried beans on it, add crunchy shell and put fillings listed above inside that. I always make Goya yellow rice to go with it.
I don’t usually order tacos out if we get Mexican food. I always go for other things.

When I was in my early 20's and I moved to AZ and had a roommate from AZ. We said let's have taco night. And then we took all our ingredients out and compared and said "what the hell are you doing?" to each other. Mine was ground beef and hard shells, hers was shredded chicken and hand-fried shells lol

spicysalmonroll, tacos are apparently the most regional of the regional, lol!! If DD knew olives were an acceptable taco topping in other places she would probably be all over that. I personally want them as far away from all of my food as possible.

Okay my go to easy home taco are those potato tacos dorados. Add shredded cabbage. Cotija. Crema. Cut up red onions and radishes. Salsa. And they are amazing. We eat those every week. They end up looking something like this: Out and about I like regular asada tacos. They just need to be made with home made corn tortillas.

At home, my favorite is shredded carnitas (we get the already cooked kind from Costco), that we fry up in the cast iron to make it brown and crispy. Serve with refried beans, guacamole, salsa, and chopped onion with fresh cilantro. Fresh corn tortillas if I can find them.
To order, I love a fried fish taco in corn tortillas with white sauce, salsa verde, avocado and shredded cabbage, or a shredded beef taco in a fried corn tortilla shell.

I'm a crappy cook, so if I'm making them at home, and usually this means feeding the kids, it's pretty basic ground beef, seasoning, lettuce, cheese, salsa, guac/sour cream. Usually hard shells. I also love the Costco street tacos. Ordering out I love a brisket taco or carne asada, soft tortillas. Whatever toppings the restaurant puts on there, but hold the cilantro.

Ground turkey, old El Paso mild seasoning (which DD claims is still too spicy), hard shells. Toppings are salsa, avocado, fresh shredded cheddar and jack cheeses
I don't order tacos out at restaurants so no opinion

We buy preseasoned meat (Mi Tienda at HEB- pork, chicken, or beef). This has been the greatest glow up for taco night. We add cotija cheese, cilantro, onions, sometimes avocado. We always have corn tortillas (DD1 is gluten free), but sometimes buy some flour as well.
I rarely order tacos in public. I usually get something else off the menu if we get Mexican food.

Currently eating my leftover tacos so this thread is perfect. We do two kinds not on the same night, one is shredded chicken and I fry the tortillas, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream. The other is ground beef same toppings but with soft or crunchy shells. I always make rice to go with them.
Out - i order chili rellenos if I can get them or a burrito. I try to get things i can't make at home.

‘Out’: Costco chicken street tacos. I won’t get them when we are out-out because I am not a huge fan in general and would rather eat my weight in queso/quac and chips.

I usually heat them up on my comal. It gives them an extra crunch. As long as the inside of any taco is fully cooked I add it before frying. It’s faster because it’s one less step to do.
