I'm so sorry layloo, I know that was not the news you wanted. But it sounds like if it had to be cancer, catching it early is the best thing. Prayers for you and your family!

I'm so sorry to hear that. We're here for support if you want to talk about it. Sending T&Ps your way that it was caught early and that the treatment will be effective and not as invasive as if it were more advanced.

How are you doing today? Did they tell her what the next steps are? I'm okay. Thank you for asking! She will see a general surgeon next week and go from there. I think it's the unknown that's bothering me most. We are such planners and just want to know what's next, you know?

That is so hard! I agree the unknown can be so nerve racking especially for anyone even mildly Type A. Hopefully y'all have a nice relaxing weekend and can tackle this cancer bullshit next week!

I'm good. Heading to go see her now. I just want to know what's next. Doing some research I've seen that basically it'll be lumpectomy and radiation or chemo or a mastectomy. She's said she'd totally pick mastectomy if she can avoid radiation or chemo. But we don't know the stage so who knows.

Just seeing this. I'm so sorry layloo, I'm really glad it was caught early. Sending good thoughts your way. Positivity does wonders for a person during treatment and recovery. A lot of my dad's family has/had cancer and I've definitely seen the difference between the people with positive attitudes and a support system and those who chose to shut everyone out. So my mama saw a general surgeon on Friday. I'll TL:DR as much as I can. She's stage one as of now. The cancer is fast growing and is negative to progesterone and estrogen and she's waiting on a test to tell her if she's HER2 positive or negative. We hope for positive because negative would be triple negative breast cancer with reoccurs more easily and you can do no hormone therapy. She sees her oncologist on the 9th where she will have genome testing done for the BRCA genes. She will have a lumpectomy and have sentinel lymph nodes removed to stage it further. If it's in there, its stage to, and then she will have a mastectomy. If the gene testing comes back positive, she will have a prophylactic mastectomy which means removing the cancer free breast too. Chemo is pretty inevitable. But we will know more once she sees her oncologist. That was long but really was TLDR.
Also, if she's positive for BRCA or any cancer causing genes, I'll make the decision to have testing or not. With family history of (all maternal) great aunt, grandma, aunt, and now mom, I would be a candidate for prophylactic double mastectomy if I tested positive too. I plan to contact my insurance if she is positive for the gene to see if they cover prophylactic surgery. If they do, I'll get the test. If the don't, I won't. ACA covers the gene testing.
So yeah. Our roller coaster continues and even though it was caught early, it's still invasive. Get your mammograms when it is time, ladies.

I was wondering about you and your mom. Sorry it's still so invasive. Biggest hugs to you. That's a lot to deal with. I hope all of the next step testing goes well and she can have a plan of how she will move forward.

This must be a lot for you to try to take in right now. I know it's hard, but try to stay in the moment and not get too far ahead. Sending T&P for the best and least invasive outcome possible.
