Today is our last full day in NYC. We are headed for a day of Brooklyn exploration. We wanted to catch a comedy show or music tonight but with Covid surging we aren’t going inside places unless we have to. Luckily NY has all these outdoor dining areas set up so it hasn’t been too much of an issue. lahdeedah people under 30 think their immune to this! It’s crazy! I have been pleasantly surprised that there are mobile Covid vaccine and testing places all over the place here and I’ve seen a number of young people going to them. NYC is mandating the vaccine to get into restaurants, bars, etc as of Labor Day. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. At this point there needs to be either a huge financial incentive- like another stimulus you only get if vaxxed, or a large punishment like being unable to do things. I don’t see things moving in the right direction otherwise.

Oh and I got notice that our flight was canceled to Jamaica in November. I was thrilled because I can get a refund vs a credit and I wasn’t going if C isn’t vaccinated, which it doesn’t sound like he will be.

Democrats play the same weak game every time--go soft trying to place nice with republicans that will 1) never vote for them, and 2) never approve of anything they do. In turn this loses support from democrats who become lackluster about voting for you if you aren't going to do anything meaningful. He needs to call it and mandate it in the military and get the ball rolling because they won't do it many other places until they do it there first. Mandate masks in schools for those who are not vaccinated.

M (9yo) now wears training bras most days. She loves to be very dramatic and in the evenings announce "It's the best part of the day!" as she rips her bra off and throws it on the floor.*
* She might have learned this behavior from me.

How do you all find out who your kid’s teacher is?
In the past we were sent a postcard from his teacher. Today I got a call from the teacher introducing herself and giving me some info and answering a few questions for her. We have open house Friday. I thought it was cool to have the chance to speak with her, but I think I would also hate having to do that as a teacher.

We get a letter via email about 1 week prior to school starting. It just states your child X is in Mr. or Mrs. Y's class. Then the day before school starts there is a small meet and greet with the teacher. K was in the classroom, but last year due to covid it was on the field. She met with each kid for about 8 seconds and moved on to the next.

Just read a story about a woman in Maryland leaving 7 kids in her car while she went shopping at the mall. 7 kids, all under the age of 5. The oldest was 4, youngest was 2. The 4 year old called the police and they came and rescued the kids. 7 kids, all under the age of 5, in a 2 door vehicle. only 1 car seat 2 of the kids were hers, the other 5 she was babysitting They aren't sure how long the kids were in the car, but they know it was more than 20 minutes. The woman came out of the mall 10 minutes after the cops showed up. All the kids were treated on the scene and were fine, and the woman was arrested, but refused to say what she was doing or why she left the kids in the car.

I can hear everyone's music in this damn office, but since I sit at the front desk I can't listen to any myself. So I like to randomly whistle tunes when I hear particularly horrible music emanating from one of the offices. I just whistled the theme song to MASH. I didn't even know I knew it, but I hope its stuck in each of these guys' heads now.

lahdeedah a couple days before school starts we can look at our kids' online portal and it will say who their teacher is. It's kind of annoying that they don't email it because you just have to keep looking and checking. Meanwhile they send countless emails that don't pertain to me.

I just had to sign up for a virtual Waitlist Informational Workshop, in order to get on a waitlist for the developmental pediatrician.
It's 1.5 hours long.
WTF.

Hey hey! It’s been a busy week. MH has been gone for a work trip so I am home taking care of the dogs. Our 2, 5 client dogs that he is training, plus one of his employees went out on a wildfire detail to Cali for 3 weeks so we are dog sitting her as well. That’s 8 dogs!! I’m a dog over to the core. But dang, it’s a lot of work!
A friend of our passed away yesterday from Covid. He was vaccinated. It breaks my heart for the family and terrifies me as well. While I know that the majority of the hospitalizations are those unvaccinated, it’s still frightening what this can do to someone even while vaccinated.
On a brighter note…I took S to her neuromuscular specialist yesterday. They did a nerve conduction study/EMG because I had concerns of her getting numbness in her feet. She’s been very insistently putting her feet out to my hands for me to rub. I thought it was due to nerve issues. But her tests showed, that while she does have nerve damage and abnormalities, it hasn’t deteriorated any since her last one 2 years ago. So apparently girlfriend just like a good foot massage 🤷♀️. Which is certainly good news, but that will be one expensive conclusion 😂.

wineallthetime I’m sorry for the rough night. Hugs friend! tgrimes I’m glad you guys have convinced your parents to move into an assisted living facility. It was the best thing for my grandparents! And now that my grandpa has passed my grandma has so many friends right there supporting her and it has been huge for her. @nam so relieved to hear you bil’s surgery went well. I hope he continues to do well through recovery and that you sister will be able to see him soon!

We get a letter from the teacher (but for some grades -- Josie's included--there is only one group of kids and one teacher) The have a meet and greet a few days before school starts, but it was on zoom last year. The kindergartners orientation was always a little bit longer. They go for a bus ride and take a tour of the school. They didn't do that this past year and I doubt they'll do it again this year.

nam2013 what a relief that surgery is done. Glad it went well. wineallthetime glad you are taking care of yourself, sorry it has been rough. lfig wow to 8 dogs! It is cloudy today so we took a beach break and went to a few parks then played mini-golf. Waiting for DD’s last soccer training down here tonight then heading home for a few days. lahdeedah our schools like to keep teachers a big secret as long as possible. We get a letter like 3 days before school with only a room number so you only know the teacher if you knew who was in what room and they didn’t switch rooms over the summer. When I was a kid in the same schools, they took all the kids in the gym without parents, then had teachers call out their student’s names so parents literally didn’t know who you had until after the first day. This year at my new job, I will have virtual meet and greets with each family before the kids start. I’m excited for that since I could have kids who don’t really talk yet.

When I was a kid in elementary school, they would post the lists outside on the bulletin board a week before school. Every day we'd ride our bikes up there to see if it had been posted. It was so exciting.
