Raining here. Getting whacked by Elsa. Oh well, we needed some rain! Last night I finished my manuscript. The one I've been working on since 2007. That I never thought I'd get done. I am now, apparently, writing another story, which is not one of the other two stories that I already had in my head. Aside from hanging out with the 'rents I'm probably going to be working on it all weekend.

Today is such a stupidly hard day that all of the regular hard things have become easy in comparison. Silver lining and all that.

The high here today is only 90 so it’s like we’re getting a break from the extreme heat!
It’s been a tough week and I have felt close to a breakdown a few times. 😰 hoping to just relax this weekend and try to gain some perspective.

My husband’s best friend was supposed to visit today. I asked many times for him to double check what time he was coming, but my husband kept saying “he’s driving today.” So we spent the whole day waiting and I made a fancy dessert. When my husband finally called him to shut me up, it turns out the visit is next Friday. I didn’t take the kids to visit my parents this week because of this visit, and now it blows up my plan to take them late next week instead. And if he had checked on details like I asked we would’ve known this days ago. And somehow he won’t see this as a reason to check next time or to check when I ask, he’ll still be pissed that I’m asking for more information. I get so frustrated when his lack of communication impacts me. At least there’s fancy dessert.

Etc etc. But seriously, why. I feel for you!

It rained soooo much today. Elsa, I guess. Approximately 4 inches of total rain!
Solid heavy rain all day until mid afternoon, and now there’s blue skies.
We (the kids and I) had a mostly indoor day and it was good actually. Playroom purging, cleaning, made rice crispy treats, and finger puppets from a kids magazine craft.
Pizza and movie dinner tonight. I want to watch Into The Woods - it’s rated PG. Thoughts? I saw it in the theater but remember not much. We can fast forward through scary parts.

The first act is pretty fun. The 2nd act gets really dark- it gets into the whole “you got your wish, but was it worth the consequences “ questions. I think it’s a little heavy and maybe too slow for little kids. I did a unit on it with my middle school chorus when we weren’t allowed to sing this winter (but we did the Broadway version.) Also some non-Disney versions of fairy tales- more Grimm. (More violence, more sex.) There are other musicals that might be more kid friendly.

After being up half the night with tornado warnings and hunkering down in the closets, we were a bit tired today. The kids and I spent the morning at the beach and then came home where M and I took a 3 hr nap. Tomorrow I have the annual hoa mtg in the morning and we are taking the kids to an outdoor concert tomorrow night. Sunday MH is running a 5k at 730am so we will all (begrudgingly) get up at the crack of dawn to support him.
Running is the worst sport. I'm an asshole, I know. But why do runners think others enjoy getting up so early to watch them just run down the road? Why? Guess what, we do not. At all. I know I know, I should be more supportive.

It’s chilly here. C is testing for his yellow belt tomorrow.
My day included frantically getting people to pass their testing, getting waxed, a farmers market, and then getting McDonald’s for the kids and stoping at a local brewery with them to enjoy the cool weather. F saw someone from daycare and we joked with the parents that the big news on Monday would be that they saw each other at a bar.

There’s a big difference between running and watching other people run. Especially if it’s not on a track so you can see the whole race.

The real ones. So the first act was pretty perfect and I can probably distract them away from wanting to finish, or I’ll put it on in the AM when they’re more likely to only half-watch. Other musicals are fun but they loved the idea of stories they know - I had been listening to the soundtrack.

There’s a modified version of it for young drama groups that ends after act 1, and I’ve seen adults leave full performances at intermission so they can end with “happy ever after.” Ending after the first half is a good idea. Let us know how they like it! I’ve been thinking about showing Once Upon a Mattress to my kids because it’s really funny, but there are a lot of sex jokes that I’m not 100% sure will go over their heads.

It's been so hot and I just don't want to do anything . We ended up doing leftovers for dinner, and half-frozen watermelon for dessert.
I don't think we have any plans this weekend. Maybe I can find some curtains that will work for our bedroom.
I'm mostly most happy that I don't have to do any work for the next 2 days

We’re on our way home today for a 18 day road trip! We just surpassed 4,200 miles, 15 states, and 6 national parks! The girls were such troopers but we’re so ready to be in our own home and pick up the dog from the boarder. It’s going to rain all week, which is perfect so we can just relax from our adventure aka “vacation” lol

We ended up starting a project today. Planing some reclaimed barn wood to prep it for an accent wall. We were originally planning to do the corner columns of our family room, but now thinking maybe doing the actual window wall instead. Decisions, decisions.

Can you snap me a picture of what the poster looks like? We have one from a similar book that he loves but I don't want to order it if it is the same poster.
