Anyone starting to think about next year? We definitely slacked on learning this past year for several reasons, so we’re doing some “summer bridge” stuff before we pick up the pace this fall. A lot of our favorite historical sites are restarting their homeschool programs so we plan on using history as our base for reading and writing.

We are definitely behind. Some of it is just life with asynchronous learners. We started EIW for my rising 4th grader recently and that has been a great success. She was behind on writing (not spelling or reading). My rising 2nd grader is still super behind on spelling and writing. She doesn’t spell intuitively from reading like my older does. I wouldn’t normally be worried but we are thinking of sending them back to public school this year. I don’t want them to be behind their peers. But I also know that of all years, this is the year that teachers are expecting a wide range from homeschool/virtual school kids. We haven’t made any decisions so we could easily be here in the homeschool group next year. It just comes down to whether I can work and homeschool.

I keep forgetting about this board. As of now plan is to homeschool. We really need to work on reading/spelling this year. Anyone have a good language arts curriculum? I tried piecing things together last year and I'm not happy with progress made so I'm thinking a more formal curriculum would be better for the boys.

Hi, I'm a semi-regular on the Cloth Diaper board and a full on lurker in Blinds and GD. We had planned to homeschool pre-pandemic so our first year (2020-21 for kindergarten) went surprisingly well. My DD will start 1st grade/DS starts PreK in 2 weeks, and I'm looking forward to the routine again. We use a Charlotte Mason inspired boxed curriculum that is a good fit for us. ETA clarity

I haven't used it but hear good things about All About Reading and All About Spelling. My DD formally learned to read with Hooked on Phonics.

I don't post much but have always planned to homeschool and it's eased some anxiety for me that the pandemic has made more people aware of the variety of reasons for homeschooling. My older one is about to turn 6 and younger one is 4. Last summer my older one got very excited to learn to read, so we spent last summer doing lots and lots of Logic of English and finished foundations up a few months ago. Younger one did a bit of LoE with us here and there and managed to learn to read from that. We're starting Torchlight K soon, which has an around the world theme. I'm adding own voices chapters books where ever possible, because the older one especially is a reading machine. We might do some LoE essentials in a slow and gentle way if she keeps wanting to, and we'll use ideas from the Writing Revolution. Also Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding, the 5th Miquon book, and the Hoffman videos with our keyboard. We tend to do just a little bit of these just about every single day year round so there's no real "start of the year" for us, except that their best friend is probably going back in person which will mean going back to masked and distanced and outdoor hellos rather than the masked and outdoor but free to roar and wrestle and hug play we've been letting them have this summer. And their school starts two days after my kid's birthday so basically everyone is dreading her birthday.

We have our curriculum and are all set to continue on with that for kid 1. We took a week off from school but no official summer vacation. Kid 2 has an eval early Sept for Dyslexia. So we will need to tweak her curriculum. Because what works for kid 1 doesn't really work for kid 2. Kid 3 gives no shits about much so we will prob start preschool packets shortly to hopefully jumpstart his learning journey. Anyone have insight into curriculum for Dyslexia?
