I'm pleased to see that my 5th grader is learning about the Tulsa massacre today. Considering I learned about it a year ago. We've always supplemented our kids' social studies curriculum to be more representative and inclusive (and factual) but it's nice that the schools are trying to do better. Yes! I am glad to see people talking about it today. Super important to also learn the intentional suppression of the story for decades.

Dumber and unfortunately probably more desperate and probably more dangerous, I should say.
I'm worried.

We've always supplemented our kids' social studies curriculum to be more representative and inclusive (and factual) but it's nice that the schools are trying to do better. I went to college in and lived in Oklahoma for nearly a decade and never learned about it until well into my thirties. Infuriating.

enchanted, I found two more books from my Russian mafia and corruption course. It's been 19 years since I read them but the class was one of my favorites in all of undergrad so I imagine they should hold up: "Comrade Criminal" by Stephen Handelman "How Russia Votes" by Stephen White, Richard Rose and Ian McAllister

RE: Tulsa
I learned about it here. Maybe last year, maybe the year before, but the first I ever heard about it was here.

As if a mob of people trying to break in and harm Russia’s top leaders wouldn’t result in straight up murder from their military or police force.

Russia is only commenting because their ultimate plan is destabilizing the US even more. The Cold War is still going for them.

That’s great. I wish MN would follow suit. Especially given the amount of National attention our racism has had in recent years.

Dem's win the special election for Sec. Halaands seat. Oh man, just seeing the "I've seen enough" is flashing back to the excellent memories of politics board nerd club superbowl AKA election week. That was the week I decided to go to grad school for policy and told everyone about all my brilliant friends I "talked" to all week.

Have you guys followed Naomi Osaka story? Basically she skipped a media event and was fined. She opened up that she was skipping them for her mental health and the federation doubled down and said she might be expelled from the French Open. So she withdrew. Man, fuck tennis and fuck our society for not recognizing that athletes (and people in general) are human beings and not machines. I was pissed at NPR because all their focus was on are athletes under too much pressure? Do we really not "know" our idols? ... The fuck. Maybe, just maybe focus on the insane misogyny and racism that leads to one of the top athletes in the world bailing on a sport she loves because JOURNALISTS AND SPORTING OFFICIALS FORCE HER INTO SITUATIONS THAT HARM HER MENTAL HEALTH. THATS THE FUCKING STORY. I CLEARLY HAVE LOTS FEELS. CHANGING MENTAL HEALTH MEDS IS HARD.

I watch quite a bit of sports and I could care less about post game interviews. They are always so annoying and useless. I almost always feel badly for the athlete/coach even if they are not the side I was cheering for. I will listen to hours of pre game coverage and immediately switch everything off after the game/match conclusion. I know there are people who live for that post game stuff but I think it’s time to reinvent the wheel on this one. They could get the information they need from the athletes in a way that is a lot less circus like and stressful. Ok but Steph Currys daughter bombing his interview post game was the BEST!
I dont watch pre/post either.
haha i was about to say i do like it when kids join like Steph Curry's kid, hut i never watch in real time. Just later when it goes viral.

STL native here. The VP stuff has been around for forever and known. Wonder why it’s just trending now. Ellie Kemper checks every old money, STL white girl box. I know a couple people who went to high school with her (who are also old money white people). Agreed with that tweet that calling her a KKK princess is not accurate, but like most things with the STL elite, classism and racism run deep in the VP fair. My DH is from STL. Curious, where did EK go to high school? John Burroughs

June 5 is an anniversary of another terrifying global epidemic. 'This June 5th, the world will mark 40 years since the first five cases of what later became known as AIDS were officially reported. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) described the five cases. Join us in observing this day.' www.hiv.gov/events/40-years-of-HIV
